Post patch 1: Looking hopeful, I believe gearbox can fix the stuff, but we'll see how long it takes.

Not going to mention the bugs, if you want stuff about the bugs look at just about any other review. (Mostly because one way or another they'll be fixed, by the devs or by the modders that carry 🦾)

Seekers of the Storm, the second DLC expansion to Risk of Rain 2, was fully created by Gearbox Software, unlike the first DLC, which was only partly created by Gearbox. Items you collect through your run are arguably the most important factor in the outcome of your run, so the items that you do get are very important.

The common items are meh at best, I won't go through every single item to not waste your time or mine, but some examples are Warped Echo, which activates when you take damage. When you take damage, you only take 50% of the damage, then you take the other 50% of the damage after 3 seconds. You can probably see how this might not be the best item, since you may be mislead on how much damage you have taken and then be unable to determine whether to back away from combat or not.

Green items are decent, the worst one (in my opinion) will teleport you to a random location upon going below 25% of your health. Which can be undesired, also it won't save you from dying, so if you get hit hard enough all it'll do is teleport your corpse, but it's probably more effective than an Old War Stealthkit.

The red items are all pretty good, barring one, which gives you 3 normal chests worth of gold at the beginning of a stage, and stacking the item gives you 1 more chest worth of gold (This is not worth it). Also there is only one equipment, it is good. All in all, Items are decent, but there are only half of the items that are in the first DLC, on top of that an argument could be made that the game is made more difficult by adding more items that aren't as good as previously existing ones. This is just personal preference, but given the option of power creep or harder runs, I'd rather the game be more difficult, but also I'd rather the items be more useful.

We get 3 enemies added in this DLC, along with 2 new elite affixes, one of which is a tier 2 along with Celestine and Malachite. None are offensive, but the Scorch Wurm fella is kind of annoying. The elite affixes are alright as well, the Gilded affix (Tier 1) is problematic since they can conjure a shield which siphons gold if you attack while it is active. Main problem being is you may not WANT to attack, but may have AOE that will do so none the less. There are more enemies added in the first DLC, but they can be nuisances.

Seekers of the Storm added a new stage 1, 2, 3, 5, and a new final boss stage. It also adds variants to 2 stage 1's, and 1 stage 2 and 3. Last but not least, it adds 3 variants to Bulwark's Ambry. All the stages are good, but most of the stages are part of the alternate path that leads to the new final boss. If i could make one change to the DLC (other than bug fixes) it would be to make the stages part of the normal stage pool. The variants are nice for console, but for PC, the CoolerStages by Nuxlar or StageAesthetic by HIFU will basically do that same thing but better, other than that the variants add some paths that open up in the stages. The final boss stage is cool, it reminds me of the pre-reworked Commencement (Mithrix's stage). And I think the Bulwark's stages are a nice addition that would help with the repetitiveness that comes with doing 18 artifacts.

Now for the final boss himself. First thing, the laser. If you know you know. But yeah, I don't believe that the boss is better than Mithrix, but it is definitely better than the first DLC's final boss. The main complaint is that the animations for the guy looks really jank and unfinished.

Finally there are the survivors, Seeker, Chef, and one who shall not be named. Seeker feels weaker to play, as well as very healing and support focused. I can only imagine how it goes in E5 and onward. Chef feels slightly above mediocre, probably a 6/10, I didn't really care for Chef in previous renditions of the character, so I wasn't expecting anything, and am not surprised or disappointed. For the final survivor who shall not be named, he feels jank, the secondary feels underwhelming, a nice "alternate" secondary idea, and the special seems a good bit powerful, with the alternate special being whatever. They definitely could have done better, but I doubt that they'd change anything so we work with what we got. (Also is the effect with the primary supposed to look a football field away?)

I think that's everything, but I probably managed to miss something huge. If you do not have any of the DLC's, get Survivors of the Void. If you have the first DLC and want more, I'd say it's *probably* worth it, if you care a lot about stages, since that's the main thing the DLC provides. I'll recommend it for now, since I'm pretty sure the bugs that are in the game and here no matter whether you have the DLC or not, but If I'm wrong in that, or if they don't fix the bugs in a timely manner, I'll change it to a negative review. Though a little bird told me there is a way to downpatch the game for those who want their game back.

Moral of the story: Hire Quality Assurance.

A lethal company type game with it's own unique twists on it, from what I've played, pretty fun.

I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for Christmas in 2021 from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

The risk of playing for 640 hours returns

i played this game cuz my friends were playing it and it was on a sale for 15 dollars, i got it. played 2 weeks and here we are. 100 hours in 2 weeks because i LOVE this game, i have all of the achievements now and i dont know how i feel about it now, definitely a good game but i am a achievement person so i dont know exactly what to do now. so, 10/10 need more updates

Post SOTV DLC Edit: The dlc is DEF worth the money, I stopped playing the game a few weeks after I posted the original review, and I wasn't sure if it was worth my money to buy the dlc for a game I don't really play anymore. it was worth it. I already have another 25 hours into the game since it game out 3 DAYS AGO, really no life going on other than the risk of rain. new final boss is sick, new survivors are sick, new items are sick, new stages are sick, new "mechanics" are sick. I would recommend the dlc for anybody who needs more from the risk of rain 2 world.

(This is a NO SPOILER review)

Me and my friend saw this game on steam and we were bored so we decided to pick it up. We had a BUNCH of fun for the first 12 hours, and 2 of our other friends also joined. We reached the "2nd stage" of the game where you advance your tools and weapons and armor. I should let you know you can upgrade your armor even more after you get the armor for that stage of the game. If you are bad at games generally, I would say it's necessary to beat the bosses, but requiring more time. You can also go off in that stage of the game and make all of the item farms you can at that point, but as you can most likely tell from my measly 92 hours, I didn't do that. so you beat the boss for the 2nd stage of the game, what next? head to the next area. farm resources, rinse and repeat for the next 70 HOURS. i should mention the 2 friends that joined left by the 3rd stage of the game since they didn't the time nor' patience to farm for the 25 hours to progress to the next tier, just to do it again. Now, currently there are 5 areas, 5 bosses, and 5 tiers of armor. the team of people making this game said that currently they are planning for 9 biomes, 9 bosses etc. Keep in mind this game is early access and anything i say here is very much subject to change. with that said. 9.5/10. each biome is unique, all of the enemies in each biome are unique, terrain generation in each biome is unique, all that. each boss as special attacks that you can prepare for by making "potions". Also, the building system in this game is... one of the best things you can think of. My final verdict? read the review, if you like the things that are good and don't mind the things that are meh/bad, then go ahead get it. As of now the biggest sale this game has been on is 10% off so I wouldn't recommend waiting for a sale.
