The game feels great and looks just as good. It's extremely short, but the overall quality and presentation of the experience makes it worth it. Others complain about the lack of blocking, rolling, and complain that the game is slow and difficult. I don't think the lack of movement options hinders the game because the game is designed around this. You never find yourself walking without enemies for too long. If you do feel this way, however, Cherry has the ability to run. I don't think the lack of blocking and rolling is detrimental because you have invincibility during one of your special moves. Good timing of this special move allows you to dodge even long-lasting enemy attacks. The enemies telegraph their attacks clearly so you always have the opportunity to avoid. I also saw people complaining about the music but I personally really enjoyed it. If you're willing to play a well-made but short game, give this game a try. I did, and it was well worth it.

Idk what I expected. It's Quake II but it looks better. Still kinda runs poorly on an RTX 2070, but if you like Quake II you'll like this.

I'm gonna have to say HARD PASS on this one until it gets fixed. The gameplay is fun, sure, but that doesn't mean much when the ranked mode crashes the game, the 6 player matches are peer-to-peer (laggy), the playerbase is dying because of the poor launch, and there is no anti-cheat (people are already cheating). If you're gonna try out the game, try out the free to play version. God, I really wanted this game to be good. I really did.

When the devs say there won't be microtransactions, I expect there to be no microtransactions. I'm posting this review to show the devs and potential customers that this game isn't a good investment of time or money especially now that we can't trust anything said by the devs. Updates like this can really ruin the game for some people. If they were open about this from the start, I think that everyone would have been more accepting.

I have previously written a review for this game but I think it's time to make a new one. My goal is to make this easy to understand at a glance.

Graphics

This one is super opinion heavy and it's best to just judge for yourself.

+ Character sprites - The characters are all well drawn and stand out from everything on the screen. There are a ton of colors to choose from (over 20 per character) and many are references to other characters. The fanservice in this game can be seen as excessive, but I don't care about it or notice it much.
+ Stages - The stages, for the most part, look great. The stages are somewhat 3D (which can be changed in the options) but it isn't super noticeable. They all look like they were designed with a purpose; they don't look like they were just thrown in. Another good thing about the stages is that they never distract me from the game.
+ Animation - Everything is super well animated in this game. The attacks always look smooth and there are no animation-hitbox oddities such as the super large Street Fighter II Shoryuken hitbox.

Gameplay

+ Team size selection - Skullgirls allows you to select the number of characters are on your team. Single character teams are viable in this game because each character in a multiple character team is weakened based on the team size.
+ Overall game feel - Everything in this game feels crisp and responsive. This is personal opinion, but it is one of the best feeling fighting games I've ever played.
+ Infinite Combo Prevention System - This game has a mechanic where it detects when the opponent is doing an infinite combo and allows the other player to break free. Because of this, one combo doesn't mean a immediate loss.
+ Assist selection - When selecting your characters, you can input normals and specials as assist moves. Since these aren't new moves, you will immediately know how they work. It also provides for options that are fun to test out.

Tools for New Players

+ Great tutorial - The tutorial teaches you mechanics that are used in many other fighting games. There is also a section that teaches about each character individually.
+ Team selection makes the game easy to get into - You don't have to learn more than one character to start playing this game.
+ Great training room - Things like slow motion and showing hitboxes make it easy to understand the game's mechanics.
+ 360 Detection - When doing a 360 motion, the game will prevent you from jumping during it.

Concluding Statements

This is one of the best fighting games I have ever played. I know that it won't be to everyone's tastes, but I find it very hard to think of places where this game is lacking. Many of the problems that people had were ironed out by the developers who continue to work on this game. If you like games such as Marvel vs Capcom you are going to want to check this one out. If you are new to the fighting game genre and are interested in getting better, BUY THIS GAME! Just keep your expections high because this game is sure to surpass them.

Remember that like any modern Final Fantasy game, you may just hate it at first glance and I respect that decision.
TL;DR below.

Story- This story is full of plot-holes and makes no sense. Final Fantasy XIII's story is a Godsend in comparison to this. Imagine Final Fantasy XIII's story but with time travel that goes against all of the modern time travel conventions. It is really only there to get the characters together for a new adventure. You should not be playing this game for the story.

Exploration- While still somewhat linear, there are hidden chests placed throughout the world that you can find. You are also able to accept quests in the field. Completion of these quests will cut down on grind time because they give you EXP (Crystarium Points). You can travel between the different areas of the game in the Historia Crux, a menu showing all of the points of time you can travel to. This menu allows you to reset areas, battling bosses again and gathering treasures you might have missed. Enemies show up at random on the field, but you are given a short period of time to run away from them or get an early attack on them.

Combat- In combat, you have a bar that is split into several segments that fills over time. Battle commands can be attached to the segments of the gauge. You can choose to use the entirety of your gauge at once, or use moves as the bar fills up. Serah and Noel can be assigned classes and switch between these classes in combat. This is where the meat of the battle strategy comes from. You are able to have a Pokemon-esque monster accompany you in battle. This monster also has a class which will help balance out your team. The way the class system works still goes over my head, but I think that combat is enjoyable nonetheless.

Optimization- This game will run like garbage on YOUR PC. I DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE A TITAN X, THE GAME IS JUST BROKEN. EXPECT 30 FPS AT ALL TIMES.

TL;DR, like most modern Final Fantasy games you will endure it or you will hate it. The story is meaningless, but the gameplay is enjoyable.

5/10 mediocre, would bluescreen while playing again.

TL;DR Below
A lot of gamers say that they want innovation. Here is a beautiful game with fun, interesting, and innovative mechanics. The collectibles are worth collecting and it is fun to explore the many floating items. The main point of the game is to grow a plant and connect it to floating islands. While some people might find that boring, I thought it was enjoyable. My only problem with the game is that I beat it within an hour. Yes, the other 8 hours were spent exploring afterwords. I think everyone who wants a new and interesting experience should play this game. For everyone tight on cash, wait until a sale. Your mileage in this game will vary depending on how much you want to complete it.

TL;DR
Pros
-Enjoyable, unique gameplay
-Worthwhile collectibles
-Interesting world to explore
-Impressive art direction

Cons
-Main game is very short
-Some people might find this game boring
-Grind-y Achievements

Wait until sale/10

Soundodger+ is a difficult rhythm game about dodging objects in a small area while listening to some good music. If you have never played this game before, this game will make you dizzy. The songs are good, the gameplay is interesting, you can use your own music, and the level editor is filled with options. It is one of those games that I would wait for a sale to get.
