This game is not perfect.

But no game really is. Many of the recent negative reviews reflect a recent major change to the core game, marked by the 2.0 expansion. I feel many players posting negative reviews are largely reacting to change in general than the changes themselves. While not objectively better or worse than before, I feel the game remains true to it's goals of being an engrossing 4x space game.

So if that's what you're looking for, I'd absolutely suggest giving it a try.

But no seriously, this game is beyond addictive! If you at all enjoy insanely well designed games with dark and gruesome themes, this. is. the. game. for. you.
