Early Access Review
Give me the resources and community support these guys had I'll make something 100x better I promise.

Ok, seriously though this game is a mess and the developers need to fundamentally change the way they are developing this game or it will not be good.

I'll state the positive up front. The guns are well designed and animated. The gun play has a leg up on most other shooters. The sway of the weapon at the hip while panning your camera left and right is a unique and fresh idea. The environmental art is amazing. The attention to what this particular SCP Foundation is as an organization is well thought out. SCP-1262 and SCP-7528 are GREAT ideas and well executed. They make you think and adapt the way you play the game upon encountering them.

But the rest of the SCP's and their AI are dog water. The majority of the enemies you encounter are zombies and brain dead guards. Their AI was worse before the update, like bare bones UE5 drag and drop AI nodes bad. They have improved slightly, they now get out of each other's way and fan out. The guards seem to try and position themselves close to cover. More nodes to their decision tree have been added, but they are not yet refined. I've seen guards throw their lives away trying to path to cover when fighting my friend who was 5 yards away.

My main issue with this is not that the game is unfinished, it is in alpha after all. My problem is that the developers are attacking their idea, which they are passionate about, from the complete wrong angle. They have prioritized flashy guns and spectacle over how the map design, AI, enemy types, sound design, and narrative mold into a great game. Being charged by giant rushing chicken men in one giant open room just to be charged by a horde of zombies in the next giant open room is not engaging. SCP-1262 is a step in the right direction, forcing the player to mold their play-style to the map and the equipment they have. But SCP-1262 lacks the variation to remain engaging and the developers lack the level design intuition to properly integrate their enemy types into interesting encounters.

Speaking of sound design, I've read a review here where someone said they thought SCP-5K has better and more realistic sound design than Ready or Not. That person is delusional and likely in a grand state of cope.

I've also seen that the developers are open and communicative on their discord. Plenty of life coaches and car salesmen are open and communicative too. These guys have already proposed, in their alpha-state game, that they are thinking about adding a black-ops zombies style DLC in the form of the Antarctica-The Thing map. That is completely jumping the gun and make no mistake the developers know that they are fishing for their players' consent to sell DLC for this unfinished game.

Perk full combat focus, weapons handling, weapons modding, and mobility, and the only thing to fear will be Dr. Yu.
