In short, its a fun semi-open world with great big zones you travel to in order to conquer the orcish population for you to finally take on Sauron and his allies, the combat is really simple but has a lot of adjustable variety to the character and to the enemies and the environment which makes things fun and interesting, but it is repetitive in its nature just like Shadow of War, the story itself i paid no attention to as this is a non-canon spin off with the story serving more of an easy excuse for a fun and entertaining videogame.

Orc's as always have some cracking personalities, i myself tend not to take this game seriously so i quite enjoy this silly take on them

This game needs bug fixes and optimizations, not fresh content, now who will argue with me against that?

tldr
The game is alot more polished and optimized then it was a month ago, the devs have done a tremendeous job, even though there is alot of bugs left, i am changing my stance and id actually reccommend this game to anyone who'd enjoy an open world survival game with dinosaurs :)

This game shares a similar love/hate relationship i used to have with Arma 2 dayZmods with its bug and glitches, for all the frustration it produced me, it also produced me an incredible amount of immersion and overall satisfaction playing.

There's a harsh and steep learning curve, YOU will DIE ALOT in this game, but from your deaths you will hopefully learn and perhaps not repeat previous mistakes, the world of Ark is a dangerous one and one step wrong could easily be your last.

The survival mechanics are pretty basic, with the exception of the ability to tame dinosaurs, this is one of the key aspects of why Ark shines

Alot of the dinosaurs have their own unique ability or tactic and most dinosaurs around are hostile carnivores, although the AI's routing and logic system is appallingly simplistic alot of the dinosaurs has been designed with clever unique traits and abilities that proves challenging even to the most prepared and geared player.

The building system, is considering by most people a wreck, ive heard people say that is technically a placeholder system, possibly permanent now?

If you're on PC and you're playing unofficial, trust me, play on a server with Structures Plus, it is the essential building mod and its being considered to be part of the main game.

PVP
If you're a single person going onto a pvp server, i wish you good luck, because "mega tribes" rules the servers, mega tribes can be anywhere from 10-100 players and the current meta is that they will take over entire servers and it will be impossible for anyone other then their tribe to play on it.

Currently as im writing this review, what is now Legacy is infested with duping and aimbotters, its a sad state which will hopefully be fixed with the launch of new servers, and a new system to prevent duping and similar exploits.

If you enjoy this sorta stuff, il see you under the mesh.

PVE
There is alot to offer for those intersted in PVE, aside from the obvious huge amount of time you can invest into Dinosaurs, there's also a really intersting and hidden story behind the world, which you can uncover by exploring the maps and its dungeons, also aquiring Artifacts which will let you use the mysterious obelisks to teleport you and your companion dinosaurs into their respective arena's to battle, if you win you will be rewarded with loot and knowledge to build the highest tier gear.

Doing all these bosses is required for the endgame, Ascension which is currently unfinished but is said to contain the final boss, and it plays a huge part to the story of Ark and what is really going on.

The game is incredibly indepth and how you choose to play this can alter your perspective by a mile, there is enough content in this game to fill your time for thousands of hours, easily.

A ton of fun, definetely worth the holiday pricing!

As of this date, beware of running without Vsync, my graphics card was working itself to death running the game at 400 fps, you can lock it to 60 or 30 fps in the options and i reccomend that to any newcomer.

First off, this game is a mere shadow in comparison to Civilization V, if you want to play a recent Civ game, buy that one instead, i would only reccomend Beyond Earth with Rising Tide only to those hungry for more Civ.

Yes it makes the original game better but the current price of 35$ is ridicilous, its worth maybe 15$ at most.

Everything has been more streamlined, trade routes, research etc which is a shame, i feel like i have less choices then before when it came to becoming more influental and powerful.

Pro's
Ocean cities *yay*
New social and diplomatic system that relies on cooperation based on your two new variables; Fear And Science
Artifacts
Mixed affinity troops
4 New civilizations

Con's
Extremely expensive for what you get
Sponsor Feedback, sponsor's basically send you messages constantly about every little detail going on and half of it contradicts whats going on, i have experienced going to war with a faction which has earned me their respect while at the same time essentially been denounced.

Diplomacy system, its a nice concept but badly executed, you will find it useless after 100 turns when you have everything you want out of it and its useless to you, this basically replaced trading and its a pathetic replacement, id rather have the old trading system back instead of making it part of the convoy's.
