I finished the game (main story) on Expert in around 33 hours. I played most of my save on a different platform which is why my play time is different. Definitely going to be GOTY, really fresh take on a lot of genres with low friction mechanics. The story is just as phenomenal as the art. It isn't UE5 slop whatsoever.

Only complaint is that important items + lore is hidden around corners in levels. I know I know, it's important to not just have linear levels but I felt like I was looking for hidden loot 99% of the time in large levels instead of enjoying the atmosphere. This complaint isn't exclusive to E33 though, this is common in many games of the same genre.

Early Access Review
Final Update until future leagues: Endgame is in shambles. It does get quite a bit more fun but also far more frustrating. Between no real crafting, boring atlas progression, single portals, multiple step waystone prep, and bugged atlas nodes, it's just too much friction. I had both the nameless seer and citadel spawn on my map (rare spawns both with really important profitable mechanics) and both are not able to be traveled to. There are no connections. That is so not fun considering the amount of time it takes to find them. PoE1 atlas progression was always rewarding because ever map you completed for the first time, you got an atlas point. Here, its every 10 (it lowers as you go, but its still multiple maps) for 2 points in an infinitely less complex tree. There is still fun to be had, but really only if you can throw up your favorite TV show on the side. Rarity makes the mapping process much more fun but its a shame rarity is a stat all builds need to focus on to keep up with the market.

Updated: More of a neutral review now. Just got to maps. Your enjoyment really is dependent on your RNG drops. Getting a new bow completely changed how tedious the game was. The loot patch helped too. Mana is a bit broken right now. 40 mana Lightning Arrow cost is a little insane when rangers have like 400 mana and no way to leech or build into mana. I found myself running out of mana flasks during boss fights. My current biggest issue is the campaign length and crafting. There is no crafting. Its just 100% rng. Feels really bad for leveling when your only hope is random drops and trading.

OLD: Wait a year or two. Bosses are a huge step up but that's basically it. Not enough support gems. Each white pack is a 7 button sweat-fest. The worst feeling is spending 10 minutes going through the over-sized maps and dying before a checkpoint. This respawns all mobs. I am confident end game will be decent if you can start out-scaling enemies. If you have a job this game isnt for you. I'm in act 2 of 3 (or 6? There are 6 on full release, I dont know if its 3 or 6 as of right now) as of this review while skipping all dialogue. Unless if they changed it from PoE 1 you will have to do all acts again every new league. Do the math, that's a lot of hours grinding through the slow campaign.

No 32:9 support and no way to manually resize window. Half of skill tree is unusable because of this.

This game had massive potential which turned into a mobile game. Heres how. This game has beautiful environments that feed your itch to explore. Heres the issue. The game (Which has an infinite procedural generation) punishes exploration by making you restart all progress on your character. (Mobility/special items, Gear, you name it). The only thing that doesnt reset is the artifacts that you gain (just like a mobile game). This system COULD be valid, not for me, but valid. The issue that lies here is the fact that artifacts simply give useless stat increases like swim speed, run speed, and lantern brightness. No real sense of progression. Each area can easily take 10 hours to complete. The quests are bland, the travel is boring when you are forced to walk because your hang glider is a special item and you crossed a border into a new region. I had an interesting issue in multiplayer as well. You start on the complete opposite side of the world from your partner. This isnt an issue as you just go to a town and use the hawk to quick travel to your friend. The issue is your gear is now useless. Yes, your starting gear is useless in another starter zone. I couldnt do 1 damage to any enemies, not even the white named (easiest) enemies. The only real fun my friend and I had was when we used cheat engine to increase our fire rate. Even then, shooting my arrows at 10x speed, was I doing minimal damage. Do not get this game unless if you have done your research and agree with the current system in place. Maybe even wait a while and see if anything changes. Im counting on the modding community to make a Beta/Alpha combination. Alpha mechanics but Beta's new worlds.

I keep going back to this game. This is the game that started it all for me. SO much content and secrets. I love the minimal RNG drop base. Everything is balanced and farming for stuff isnt required, but it is recommended.
