I completely lost track of time while playing this awesome game, spending hours enjoying it without even noticing. I’ve just finished the first part, and it’s already proving to be everything I was hoping for and more:

- Excellent writing, charming characters, beautiful visuals, and a compelling story;

- Great gameplay with an amazing turn-based combat system, featuring fun action-based timing, item management, and multiple difficulty settings;

- A semi-open world with rewarding exploration and clever puzzles;

- An outstanding soundtrack, colorful and beautiful locations, memorable characters, office and outfit customization (some of which even seem to unlock special features in different chapters).

I’m already calling this one of the best games of the year and the true heir to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, sharing the podium with Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling. Highly recommended.

As a long-time fan of this project (I’ve been following it and waiting for its release since the 2012 announcement), I can’t say I’ve been disappointed—at least not in certain aspects. Still, I can’t help but recommend experiencing this piece of art for yourself. The game’s best moments lie in small details you might miss, as well as in a bit of event randomization. I was lucky enough to have a fantastic playthrough on my first run.

Let’s start with the pros:

• Fantastic graphics and sound design
From the artistic direction to every small yet impactful sound, there’s no doubt about the game’s outstanding qualities. Combined with great animations and helmet HUD details, all of this makes the immersion truly shine—which, in my opinion, is the game’s strongest selling point. The ambience, chase themes, and enemy sounds are what make the experience genuinely terrifying, and they’re top-tier.

• A solid horror experience
I’ve read some professional reviews complaining about the enemies, calling them annoying and suggesting they should be removed. I can confidently say that’s one of the worst takes I’ve seen. While the enemies are few and do have noticeable flaws, they are still a crucial part of what makes this a real horror game and not just a walking simulator. The devs should definitely address the AI issues, but the enemies are essential to what Routine is trying to be.

• Puzzle and code randomization
Objectively, some puzzles were clever and fun to solve. Others may feel tedious to some players, but I personally found almost all of them good and well-connected to the lore and gameplay.

The negatives:

• Enemy AI and animations
Yes—the devs absolutely need to improve their behavior and animations as a quality-of-life update. Since enemies are few but play such a big role in making this a great horror title, they should be made as scary and convincing as possible. Here are some suggestions:

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

Type 05s

• Improve their AI
It’s too easy to lose them. They give up on chasing you too quickly and can’t crawl into obvious hiding spots—neither to check if you’re there nor to grab you even when you’re still in their line of sight during a chase. This breaks immersion and makes them look unintelligent.

• Add new behaviors and animations
They should be able to check obvious hiding spots, such as under tables or in single-entry corners. Other horror games, like Outlast, already do this: enemies can inspect hiding places after losing sight of you, with a randomized chance of catching you. Something similar here would keep players on edge. If they find you, they could grab and throw you into another chase, or one-shot kill you if you’ve already taken damage (which seems consistent with the current health system).

• Limit their scanning ability to scripted moments or long chases
Right now, they sometimes activate their scanning feature even when you’re standing directly in front of them, giving you an easy escape. This makes them look dumb and far less intimidating.

• Add player stamina for sprinting
I suggest adding a balanced stamina system for the player’s running. I know this could be tricky to fine-tune, but if done well, it would make Type 05s much scarier. Since we can already defend ourselves with the C.A.T. spikes fairly easily, having limited sprint stamina would give these slow robots a better chance of catching up during long pursuits.

Entity A

• Add more behaviors and animations
It should be able to search obvious hiding spots after losing you, with a random chance of finding you. Most importantly, adding a crawling animation of the Entity entering the terminals would be incredibly cool and terrifying. Hiding inside one while it’s chasing you should only be viable if you still have enough C.A.T. battery to stun it with a spark or flash, pushing it back and giving you a window to escape.

• Improve the first frames of its walking animation
Although the overall animation quality is great, it’s easy to notice how stiff the first walking frames look (even for a robot). It feels like some frames are missing when transitioning from idle to the first step, especially when turning.

(SPOILERS END HERE)

Other QoL features I’d suggest to further improve the game’s strongest selling point—immersion:

Add settings for the helmet and breathing effects:
I loved how the protagonist used to breathe in the old trailers, though I understand it could become annoying for some players over time. That’s why it should be optional. Maybe syncing a subtle helmet shake with the breathing would make it feel more realistic, and of course this should also not affect how the arrow keys move inside terminals when interacting with them.

Future DLC with a roguelike mode and item randomization?
The original concept for this game was closer to a roguelike, probably with randomized codes only. It would be great to have a mode that brings back that idea and offers an outstanding roguelike horror experience—something similar to what Amnesia: The Bunker achieved with its item randomization. This would make multiple playthroughs far more interesting and improve replayability significantly. It would also tie into the game’s title even more: a “routine” worth returning to.

Final judgment:
Even with its flaws and the understandable disappointment about what the game could have been after such a long wait, I would still 100% recommend it to any horror fan.

I wish this demo were as long and packed with collectibles and secrets as the first one. It still looks and plays amazingly — beautiful and charming as expected. I can’t wait for the full game!

I’m sorry for those who didn’t get the chance to experience the amazing edited Chapter 1 demo Escape From Even After: Onboarding — it was definitely worth a shot!

It’s always satisfying to stumble upon these rare hidden gems on Steam out of nowhere. ♥

Caput Mortum is a short horror game that focuses more on puzzle-solving and survival than on fighting back.

It features a unique control system that may feel a bit unusual at first, but once you get used to it, it becomes surprisingly satisfying and well-balanced.

I strongly recommend playing it as intended — with a controller and the default control scheme. That said, it also offers alternative options for those who prefer a more modern control setup.

Highly recommended for any horror fan — definitely one of the biggest surprises of the year so far, and absolutely worth both your time and money.

Amazing 3D platformer!

It starts with the basics and gradually lets you combine the power-ups you unlock throughout the levels.

The game appeals to both casual and hardcore players: it’s simple and satisfying enough to 100% complete, yet it also features a speedrun mode for the more competitive ones.

I fully completed the demo and can’t wait for the full release — it feels like the best Spyro game we never got, yet it’s unique and charming in its own way. ❤️
