It is with a heavy heart that I can't recommend this game.

I have been a huge LoK fan since the first game back in 1997, and loved the series profusely... at least all the games that Amy Hennig had a hand in. (not so much Blood Omen 2)

This game feels like a really terrible self-insert fanfic where someone shoved in their OC and then somehow had them involved in and responsible for every major plot point in what we already know, not only breaking the storyline logic in the process, but also just creating a massive plot hole that makes zero sense - (I would spoiler warning but this game isn't even worth spoiler warnings, it's that bad) Lieutenant Raziel somehow learns his entire history of being a Sarafan and this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ OC is actually responsible for him growing wings in the first place... but then somehow he forgets all of this but not the rest of his vampire unlife for SR1. They also couldn't even be bothered to draw the iconic scene where Kain tears the bones out of Raziel's wings correctly, instead having Kain simply slash them to tatters... where are the bones on his Soul Reaver form, devs? Even the old cutscene specifically shows him ripping all of the bones out, leaving only the tattered flaps of skin which is why he can glide.

The gameplay and performance are also abysmal. It plays like a bad side scroller from 1991, even the old Gargoyles Genesis game had better gameplay and level design than this game, it really does feel like early SNES era abandonware. The game also CONSTANTLY has massive frame drops despite the graphics not being very complex and there not being a lot of stuff on screen, so I have no idea where the frame drops are coming from and can only assume it's just badly coded.

The art is basically the only redeeming thing about this game, along with Simon Templeman's always impeccable voice acting. Michael Bell is also along for the ride, but you can tell he's bored by the script and just not really that into it, and I don't blame him as this game really does Raziel a disservice and portrays him as a complete idiot who is extremely gullible.

The franchise ended with Defiance. Whoever wrote this game should just never write for known franchises again, they clearly don't know what they're doing or what fans want.

This game is a classic, one of the best open world games of its era, if not all time. It's a travesty that EA shuttered Pandemic and this was the last thing we ever got from them, but man... what a finish.

Definitely grab it, everything about it is exceptional.

This game is wonderful and so refreshingly charming and just earnest and fun. Totally worth it.

After this latest DLC, game is great!

Scratches that old Jedi Knight itch really well, even though the gameplay isn't the same at all. REALLY fun, and the story is good to boot.

I have since fixed the controller issues with this game (it was on my end) and this game was a LOT of fun and really good. Scratches that DX style itch with fun sidescrolling. Recommended!

IGA delivered. I backed this years ago, and if you like the old Metroidvania style gameplay, this is it in spades. Such a great game!
