As someone who played a lot of Civ 5 and 6, I was always going to get Civ 7. I was craving the game so got it as it released. If you're not sure if you want the game or not, and aren't desperate to get your hands on, maybe give it 6 months for some TLC, QOL updates and fixes. You'll also have more content to play with.

If you're like me and you want to play it soon, the foundation of the game is great. The skeleton of gameplay, the gameplay loop and the play experience is really good and compelling. It is already shaping to be my favourite Civ game to date, and once more content is added, in the coming years it'll definitely outshine the others for me. If you enjoy the meticulous planning of Civ6, you'll find a lot of that missing here, which is a blessing for me as I don't always want to set out my first 200 turns per game, and want to be able to pivot and adapt as the game goes on.

The presentation of the game itself, the music, the artstyle is absolutely gorgeous. Between this and the gameplay itself, I'm happy and keep going back for more time on the game. The other details of UI issues etc. are valid but likely temporary, and I can look past them currently for a fun experience.

It's a game about having fun and messing around. It's nice to have something that isn't too stressy or serious

Early Access Review
Another Battle Royale game.

It tries to do something different, embracing the idea of this being a televised event (complete with a show director who can mess with players), as well as ramming twitch compatability down your throat.

The game itself is mediocre. You loot wood and leather to make either arrows, traps or clothing which give you boosts, you can choose between different preset selections of items or make your own. There's also electronics which is a rare resource that is visible on the map, designed as a high traffic target. These give you stronger bonuses. Whenever you chop some wood or loot an area, you leave behind a trace of this, which another player can track and magically see where you are at that moment.

This is all well and good except the combat is dreadful. You can either an axe to swing or arrows to fire. The arrows have various abilities (related to tracking and other non immediate combat benefits, there is a fire arrow which does a bit more damage). The combat reminds me of the frustration you get when combo-ed by your friend in street fighter. Any hit sends you flying backwards, meaning someone who is a decent shot with arrows can just repeatedly fire you around like a ragdoll, and it takes 3 or 4 shots and you're dead, new game please. It's frustratingly "simple" and the skill aspect seems incredibly limited.

I will still recommend giving it a go as the game can be quite entertaining, especially if you avoid combat as much as possible.

A fun little puzzle game, each game can be played through in about 5 minutes, depending on how long you think about each turn. There's an element of strategy involved, and I did get better over time. But it does have a limited shelf life before I got bored. I will go back to it after a while though!
