As a long term Monster Hunter fan, I have thoroughly enjoyed this game. It does feel more similar to World than Rise, which I personally prefer so happy to see those changes. The monster hunts are engaging, the sound design is stellar, the creature designs are very good and the game play loop is as addictive as ever. It isn't without it's issues - but it certainly doesn't deserve the level of hate it seems to be getting in the reviews.

Positives:

* Fantastic game play - the weapons, the battles, the loop of collecting monster parts for better gear. It's a formula that MH has not changed and nor should it. Very satisfying gameplay and for any MH fan, an absolute must.
* We can now craft "male" and "female" armor and not have them gender locked. This allows for a lot more customisation of your final look!
* Beautiful environments really brought to life by the addition of weather anomalies and times of day. These not only affect the monsters in the region but also the visuals.
* More emphasis on Palico - this game really adds a lot more character to your little companion
* Addition of a second weapon slot for ease of switching between the two mid battle. This personally is not a system I use (Im an insect glaive main at heart) but I do appreciate them giving us the option.
* Amazing sound design and cinematics - some of the big monster fights in the story were incredibly engaging
* Love the new Hunter Profile system - very fun to play around with.
* Being able to use the wirebugs to catch items whilst on the move is very welcome - a big improvement on Worlds and Rise where you would have to stop and go over to the item.

Negatives:

* As background I am playing on a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 - so definitely a little lower than a lot of people reviewing. I play the game on medium graphics (with a few custom tweaks to high). I have not once experienced a crash but have seen a few non-game breaking stutters in the village/hub areas that last a second or so. Is the game the most graphically realistic? No. But it has not stopped me enjoying it immensely. If playing a game on ultra high graphics is a "must" for you then check your system can handle it first.
* Multiplayer is still a little over complicated for the story section specifically. But the addition of the link does make it a step up from World. Me and my husband played through the story together no issue but I do think it could be improved.
* Some of the earlier story quests were a little slow to start due to lots of compulsary walking back and forth. I don't mind a bit of this but it seemed a bit overused.

Overall, I am so happy to see another MH game and this has scratched the itch I had for another game - I am having so much fun and it is up there with World as one of my favourites! Now back to fighting some Monsters!

15 hours in and so far I am thoroughly enjoying it and do not regret buying it. But it is not without its flaws:

Pros:
* Stuck true to the original - this game has kept the feel of the previous Dragon's Dogma which I know a lot of fans, myself included, really appreciate. This game isn't for everyone but if you loved the first one, this one does it justice in my opinion
* Combat feels more fluid than the original game and I've not yet got bored of encountering things in the world (and running away if needed)
* Vocations are a lot of fun to try out and there is enough armor/weapons to be found to keep it engaging
* Exploration is the make or break of this game. If you don't go exploring everywhere you will miss out on so much and your game play will be diminished. I love the fact you have to explore more organically than just visiting quest markers, and work things out for yourself. It's very rewarding.
* Storyline - so far the storyline has been engaging and I'm intrigued to know more
* The pawn system is a lot of fun and there has been an effort made to make it more engaging to players compared to Dragon's Dogma 1. Pawns sharing knowledge between players based on their owners play through is a lot of fun.

Cons:
* Performance is a bit hit and miss (but I must admit my PC specs, specifically the VRAM, are under even the min requirements for this game so I was never expecting it to be perfectly smooth.) Out in the world it plays fine, in the city I do suffer a few frame drops
* Almost game ruining mechanic - now this is a big one for me personally. There is a specific mechanic in this game that affects pawns called dragonsplague. I won't post spoilers here but if you want to look it up please do. This mechanic does have the capacity to do something that has disastrous consequences that can ruin quests for you. In a game where there isn't multiple save slots this was a silly decision, as there is no going back once it happens. There is a way to "undo" what has happened but it takes a lot of effort and/or grinding.
* Adding to the above Con - only 1 save file. Now I don't mind this massively but what I do mind is not even having the option to delete that 1 save file if you wanted to start again. There is a work around to delete it via your pc files but come on....I love the game but let's be honest here, this shouldn't be happening in a game at this level.

Neutral:
* There is a lot of talk about micro-transactions. But honestly, you do not need them. This game is similar to its predecessor in the sense you are going to walk around a lot (that's how you encounter things) but in my 15 hours I have never once struggled for money or ferrystones (the fast travel stone).

Overall I am thoroughly enjoying my experience and I would recommend this game but I understand it won't be for everyone.

Early Access Review
This is hands down one of the best and most creative new indie multiplayer horror games I've had the pleasure to play in a long time.

Although it is early access (and there are the typical bugs to be expected) this game has huge potential. 1-4 players working together as ghost hunters to identify the ghost and complete objectives is a promising idea enough. But throw in the voice aspect of this game (you can communicate - and thoroughly annoy- the ghost by speaking its name; or when you are being hunted if you make a noise the ghost will hear and hunt you) and this game becomes a whole other league of its own.

Its innovative, fun, downright terrifying at times and me and my friends have enjoyed every second. I cannot recommend this game enough.

Bonus tip: Dont tell the ghost a "knock knock" joke - it does not like that and will proceed to chase you down the hallway as you shout for help from your friend cowering in the corner, until you are indeed the one who "is there". There being the afterlife.
