★☆☆☆☆ | Broken and Unfair

This game is a mess right now.

Edit: There’s Kernal anti-cheat, which takes your data and has not fixed the problem with hackers--they're everywhere — wallhacks, aimbots, ESP, you name it. It’s especially bad in Hazard Operations where you risk your gear, only to get killed by someone clearly cheating. And the game if they finally give you a "match compensation" for the cheaters which has only happened to me 3 times with the couple hundred hours playing this game so far when writing this review, they don't return your ammo! Also why isn't there a separate solo and squad matchmaking, that would literally fix the "loot runners" term for players in this game that go for loot with no regard of the presence of teammates/teamwork.

The gear and weapon balance is awful. Even in “easy” and “normal” matches, you’re up against players using high-end armor, meta ammo, and top-tier weapons. If you’re new or not stacked, you don’t stand a chance. There’s no matchmaking or gear scaling at all.

Operator Luna is still way too overpowered, with a recon arrow that basically gives her team wallhacks, two electric arrows, two grenades that are fast loading, along with any damage to a player, additionally any damage to a player allows the team to see enemies through walls. They even buffed the damage with her grenades and electric arrows, why not buff the grenades for all operators??? In short it ruins any tactical gameplay along with any operators in the game.

And the worst part? The devs haven’t done anything to fix these problems, only worsen them so far while masking it with new events, skins, etc. No anti-cheat that works, no balance updates, no real communication. Until they get serious about fixing the core issues, I can’t recommend this game at all.

2019 Review:
After taking a long break from TF2 for about 5-6 years on my other steam account (that had over 1,000 hours in the game), the game is still pretty fun with a strong community still holding on and gaining only more players overtime. Although now it seems dull playing the game likely because the game never updates with new events, maps, new weapons, and new classes. Most of the hours spent now when I really think about the time I've invested in this game were not the game modes, but the custom achievement servers made by players. Mann Vs Machine is my favorite game mode as it takes teamwork to defend your base from Robots, sadly the game mode is basically dead, as in anyone who wants a good team to conquer the hard difficulty levels that does not seem to be an option when queuing for a match. Valve clearly does not care about their community, all they care about is where the main cash flow is coming in which is CSGO, they are more than happy to make a new game and constantly update the CSGO games. From neglecting the game by not updating, patching VAC, and lastly canceling the TF2 show, I've given up. What's your opinion about the relationship between Valve, Teamfortress, and the community.


2023 Review:
TF2 HAS FINALLY GOTTEN A HUGE UPDATE!

Summer 2023 update has New reloading in weapons, new inspecting weapon animations, new maps, new NPC's, and more. Mann Vs. Machine is not dead anymore also! Bots/robots NPC's have new cosmetics and the spawn zone where all of the robots come out of is different, lastly the tanks have new skins.



Postscript: I recommend this game to new players because honestly this game is one of the best games ever created just a shame that Valve wants to neglect the game and franchise as a whole. It has been years since a last huge TF2 update which everyone is glad for. The mechanics are amazing, game modes, teamwork, and unique charisma the characters bring to players.

This Game is only fun if you have two things, communication, and VR. Actually I take back the VR, COMMUNICATION. The game is boring without socializing with people. If you want to mess around with mods play Garry's Mod you'll like that much better.

Exciting fast moving game play, mechanics are very good, smoother than some of the other halo games. Although I wish they gave out skins for free instead of having to pay for them.

The best competitive shooter ever! Nothing really to say here, when you first start out in the game you get beaten but eventually learning and beating other players makes you feel good and encourage you to keep on playing. All around great game 10/10 just like Team Fortress 2.
