Verdict: Unbalanced and Underwhelming

Let’s be honest—the Star Valor Base Building DLC is a bit of a mess right now. I love Star Valor as a game, but this DLC feels unbalanced, especially in its current state and the mixed reviews show that.

The core issue lies in the production economy and station market mechanics, which simply don’t make sense:

Station market prices are broken. You can’t set any buy/sell prices. For example, if you set your station to buy Iron, and it’s being sold in the same sector by a civilian station for 23 credits, your station will pay 40 credits for that same Iron and you can't change it.

Selling is even worse. Your station sells resources well below the area’s market value. That means every transaction bleeds money instead of earning it.

A Real Example:
Let’s say you want to make drones:

You need 1 Iron (40 credits if station market bought ) and 1 Microchip (136 credits if station market bought) to make 4 drones.

Your drones then sell for 47 credits each, totaling 188 credits.

So it looks like you made 12 credits profit... but you didn’t.

Why? Because:

Upkeep costs are constantly draining your resources.

The entire production line operates at a loss if you rely on autonomous station trading.

Yes, you can manually supply your stations to save money—but if that's the only viable method, what’s the point of automation or self-sufficiency? The whole purpose of base building should be to eventually become autonomous and profitable.

Final Thoughts:
The potential is definitely there, and I still believe in Star Valor, but right now the DLC feels more like a frustrating grind than a rewarding expansion. If the dev rebalance the market system, allow proper price controls, and make automated production chains viable, this could turn into something great. Until then, it’s a tough sell.

"Promising, but Not Ready Yet"

The game has potential—it definitely has good bones—but the aerodynamic physics are currently way off. Important information like the center of lift isn’t displayed in the editor, making designing effective aircraft difficult. On top of that, all planes tend to fly the same regardless of their design, which really hurts the realism.

The editor itself is buggy; sometimes the advanced adjustment settings just disappear altogether. If you're hoping for something with deep, realistic physics like Kerbal Space Program, you’ll be disappointed. Right now, it feels more like a rough beta-level arcade experience than a true simulator.

This could be worth checking out again in a later stage of development, but for now, it's a strong "wait and see."

Updated review some referenced from old review below.

While the Devs have been hard at work fixing the bugs and tackling things in the suggestions on Discord I figured it was fair time to update my review.

Special Attacks are easier to dodge now and don’t feel like direct missile coming or lobbing for your ship constantly. To this was a good change for the game as battles can feel more rewarding for agile ships.

Upgrading is still a process and still comparing numbers and dragging each equipment to the slot to see quickly if it’s an upgrade. The better you learn your ship you start to see what piece of style gear (not type) fits best in what slow.
The Armor system still feels like a shield system however that is how its ment to be so in on fairness it works. Still with this the Armor has non cover sections which allows of direct front or rear attacks to be the most rewarding while some specials and can bypass armor all together, so it is a good balance.

The balance is still a little bit off but it’s being adjusted almost daily or not several times a day to address issues I commend the Dev team on that as Balance is never easy.

Ship AI could use some work, AI sometimes just sits in the fog of the map and doesn’t attack until you attack them most noticeable when this happens (rarely) in co-op missions where Pirates need to capture points and reduce opposing team tickets. Your team AI ship is kind of dumb they barely capture points and stick together (will sail off to fight 1v5 pirates), while the pirate’s group up and break off to capture points. I get your team AI ships are dumbed down so you do most of the work, but the team AI will sometimes just sail off in the middle of them capturing a point to go sit in open water. To say the Team AI could use a little bump in love.

Do I recommend the game yes in the current direction of bug fixes and balancing the Devs have doing constantly I recommend this one for your steam library.

One of those games wish there was a Neutral option.

Its a good game mostly well done however things feel weird special attacks feel like missiles that lock on to you like Mortar (for example Explosive Barrels will always hit you) there hasn't been a way to dodge them that I know of and can (has a chance to) bypass ship Armor. So if you hit a group of Pirates they all launch of Explosive Barrels each hitting for 3K-6k+ dmg you have 8K hull you just Die with no way to dodge it.

Upgrading is just dragging to your ship equipment slots and Green number good Orange/Red bad and what are you willing to give up High level equipment of the same type can be worse then say a Blue piece of gear. This gets tedious after doing it for the Hundredth time.

Honestly how the game is and the way abilities work and how Armor works like shields you could reskin the whole game as a Space Game and it still make sense and work.

Is the game good yes I like it alot, loved the Demo and picked up the full version but just feels like it honestly has to bake more in the oven.

Balance is a big issue I have come to see.

I stopped playing because I wasn't feeling rewarded and wasn't having fun.

Slow attack, stun locked, stun locked, stun locked.
Try a combo Do part one, Do part 2, Stun locked, into death.
1 Shot Mechanic outside the first town from white mobs.
Lack of meaningful gear.
All skills should be viable even if they are not meta.

Game may say early access but it's no it is treated like PoE 1.

Game could be amazing and to some it is but for me I felt let down.

The game has a critical issue when running on a dual-monitor setup — it consistently crashes when opening sub-windows like the store or options menu. The official fix provided by the developers is unrelated to the actual problem, as the suggested service isn’t even installed or running on my system.

Despite repeated reports, the developers continue to ignore this issue — even after releasing new DLC. Until this is properly addressed, I can’t recommend the game.

If you encounter technical problems, I suggest refunding it. Based on my experience, these developers are unlikely to provide meaningful support or fixes.

I’ll be happy to update this review to positive if the dual-monitor crash issue is resolved.

Devs must of learned their nerfing from Blizzard (Patch 3) is a joke, Reducing power/healing of players like this competitive game with leaderboards and turning new game + basic Enemies into bullet sponges.

Honestly wish could roll back to Patch 2.

Great Game Simple to get going. While the GUI works in its current state it could use some quality of life features instead of going into so many sub screens to get some basic info.

Some of the combat aspects are unforgiving Range attackers if not careful can one shot you on their first attack turn depending on how many attacking and watch for melee multipliers on Enemies.

great Game Overall and Highly Recommend its one of those gems not many people know about.

I like the game.

I hate the inventory system with a passion the inventory feels very very Mobile pay for space yet there is no pay option weird as heck stack sizes things you need alot of stack to 9 yes thats right 9. No lootables respawn so you are forced to destroy items for space and to upgrade your base you need alot of storage space like a stupid amount of low stack items in high quantity.
