Early Access Review
Note: If you're interested in a shorter review, read the conclusion at the end of this review.

It was a really cool game at it's release state. Now since it was abandoned, you could guess why I give it this negative review. There are pretty much no players and you could only play it against bots with no Show-Master which is one of the main features this game can offer.

Overall Darwin Project changed since it was released. It received alot of tweaks and balance changes and was treated with care by the developers. It was fun too play aswell since an aggressive was rewarding and experience + skill could make a huge difference. Oh and if the Show-Master didn't like you, you would probably lose anyway because of their really big influence. As Show-Master you can heal players, give them a temporary shield, speed boost them (or drug them), activate Low-Gravity or close specific parts of the map to force encounters between players and much more! While the Show-Master spectates, you are able to use Voicechat to talk to players and give them information, ask them dumb questions or make them hallucinated. Players could talk to each other too. You were able to trashtalk your opponent mid battle or have a serious argument about your arrows phasing trough the opponent. It really was a fun little mechanic.

Players need to collect Wood, Darwinium to craft different abilities, consumables and stat-boosters. There are different abilities, consumables and stat-booster available with other effects supporting all kinds of playstyles. But there is still a best Loadout/Meta in these. Looting from a Tree to get wood, crafting or looting will leave trails behind, which other players can use to track the player down who left them. In Combat you can utilize your axe or bow and arrows + the abilities or use a dodgeroll (it sucks). Landing headshots is difficult but rewarded by dealing extra damage. If you're out of arrows you can still pick up arrows from the ground that missed it's target or deflect an arrow with your axe (really cool stuff).

The Game died when they decided to add a battlepass and cosmetics to the game, which was at the same time as the game was made Free-to-play, and when the grapplinghook was introduced. Yes that's right, the game costed 15 euro but as it went free, players who already bought the game, were given 2 Lootboxes which I didn't care about (I'm still mad btw). Moving on to the Grapplinghook, which was a cheap consumable that guarantee's a free hit on your opponent and was not really thought through by the devs and since the game died it never will be balanced.

Conclusion: Darwin Project died, because of a too low playerbase and does not receive Developersupport anymore. If you plan on playing this game without friends, you can try to find a lobby (Only if you're not using American servers) but you're likely to not find one. Prepare to play with the ingame Bots that are not really eventful and fun to play against. Or grab about 4-8 friends to play in a private lobby and actually have some fun, as the core mechanics of Darwin Project are fun and enjoyable.
