Any game that lets me customize how and what my weapon shoots automatically tickles my fancy! Just had a run where my assault rifle puked missles that split into more missles with a 30 round clip. The review doesn't need to be longer after that but I will continue anyways.

Gunplay is crunchy, destruction is satisfying, and I like how the mod system works. Obtaining mods that give you more mod space, and mods that boost adjacent mods is a really cool system. Makes you think about where mods go instead of just mindlessly picking up upgrades like a lot of other roguelikes (not that that method is bad, but I dig how VOIDBREAKER sets itself apart this way)

The aesthetic is a cool combination of Bungie's upcoming Marathon and THE FINALS from embark studios, The data upload objective is literally a cashout station from the latter, but that is not a complaint. The dev has good taste in games.

My main issues are small. Destroying the environment was prone to dropping my frames, which is not good when enemies are rapidly chasing you. I dig the building designs, but I wish we had a reason to enter them besides dropping the ceiling on enemies for damage or kite them. Lastly, the assault rifle's reload has a little bit too much camera sway, to the point of making you look at the floor halfway through.

I highly recommend you give this demo a shot if you like FPS games and roguelikes. It's free after all. It's only the first area, but there's enough build variety for it to have some replayability.

I saw people floating clips of this game around online when it started gaining traction, so I decided to check it out. Was absolutely blown away.

I haven't played much of warioware, but I absolutely love that style of game. This game wears it's inspirations on its sleeve and does it with style! It takes the formula and runs as far as it possibly can with it.

The game's central "gimmick" to separate it from other warioware-likes (ware-likes?) is it's intuitive PC-tailored control scheme. The microgames can have you bounce between the keyboard and mouse, or combine the two input methods. That seems incredibly simple, but the keyboard and mouse setup lets them be VERY creative with microgame objectives, such as one where you're briefly in first person to find a present, or mashing your entire keyboard in response to a cute cat pic. The game also acknowledges "ghost keys" that prevents some button combinations on certain keyboards (like mine), so they give the option to lightly simplify minigames to prevent that issue.

I've already given some examples, but the microgames are also just really well done! Intuitive, stylish, and often hilarious (you missed? FISH). The demo is free (and you should play it), so I'll let you discover the rest.

The presentation of the game is also top-notch. The invader zim-esque sharp angles everywhere and everything is awash with bright (yet tasteful) colors. Character designs are vibrant and uniquely distinct from one another. (Can you tell I'm not very good at describing aesthetics? The game looks really charming and unique).
The music present in the demo is AMAZING, and is absolutely punching above it's weight. "Although the sky" has been stuck in my head ever since, and the main menu track is enigmatic and ultra funky (to name two of them. They're all real good!). When you're playing endless, every microgame also has it's own microtheme, so they didn't skimp out on that just because the story mode overrides them with the character theme.

The story actually seems interesting! A massive willy wonka-esque tournament where people duke it out in their opponent's minds for a cash prize is a really fun concept! The main character, Pandora, is quite charming with her seemingly uncaring (but definitely cares) personality, and I'm excited to see her evolve over the course of the full game! During the lobby segment, you can talk to Pandora's friend, Smalls, as well as several contestants. All the dialogue is surprisingly natural and not overly "hammy" that you might expect from the cartoonish artstyle. There's also A LOT of it, with a shocking amount of dialogue per lobby character for just this demo. You can of course skip all this if you want to. The cutscenes present here are also quite dynamic! I love the one where Pandora meets Smalls in the lobby.

So yes, I absolutely recommend giving this demo a go! If you like it, you only have to back 15$ to get the game when it releases. They also plan to release a post-launch paid DLC, which you'll ALSO get if you back the game on kickstarter at no extra cost. They plan to have, in total with the DLC, 15 different characters (or stages. This also doesn't include the tutorial or backer-submitted microgames). If every character has the same amount of microgames as Starlight has in the demo, thats A LOT of gameplay content for 15$, not even valuing the fun story stuff. In my opinion, that's an absolute steal.

I don't usually review games, it's not really my realm of expertise. But I want to promote this game the best I can, so here I am. If any of this sounds interesting to you, play the demo and back the kickstarter. You won't regret it!

Got addicted, showed this to my mother (who doesn't play games whatsoever) to see her react to it, she is now also addicted.

Best 3 dollars I've ever spent, now go buy it for all your friends for when multiplayer comes out.

I don't have too much to say. If you like shooters that have even a LITTLE speed to them, buy this game. This game is pure adrenaline, as well a testosterone. This game, even at base difficulty, will demand the ultimate reflex and coordination skills. Despite that, this game is easy to learn.... easy to master. You can easily get pretty much everything you need to know recorded to muscle memory by the second stage.

Though a lot of people seem to dislike the platforming, I personally think that it's extremely satisfying to leap from wall to wall, and swing from monkey bars, only to land right back into the action

The multiplayer is nothing to ABSOLUTELY write home about, but it's still an incredibly fun time. If the slayer knows what they're doing. they will shred, so be warned. Also, the community is ironically super chill and nice, so there is an extremely low chance you'll find a player that makes you want to quit the match from personality alone. Also, you will need to have a Bethesda.net account to access this mode. You can play the campaign, but not battlemode. You will also need one to claim twitch prime rewards.

The graphics are something to behold. Not only do the environments and models have the triple A sheen you paid for, not once did the game stutter or buffer for me. Almost any modern computer can run this game with at least average performance. Also, if you happen to have a nasa supercomputer (or a high specs one, duh), you can run this game at up to 1000fps. Good luck with that.

If I had to make any complaints about this game, I would have to say:

The purple goo does not belong in this game. It restricts nearly all movement and it makes levels longer than they have to be. Also, in certain levels, they sick enemies on you that really need mobility to dodge.

The water physics can be a pain. The swimming itself is fine, if a tad slow, but trying to escape the surface is another thing. If you fall into a toxic pool, instead of just jumping out like a normal game, you have to find a wall to latch onto or find a ledge to climb up on. I lost a life or two there.

The in-ground tentacles aren't difficult to deal with, but they feel out of place in this game. They are the only enemies that stay in one place and hide. These tentacle segments are fine, but I would had rather had another full combat section in their places.

Also, one last thing: if you were thinking about buying the og DOOM 1 & 2, and weren't going to link them to bethesda.net, don't. You can play them for free within this game. In the fortress of DOOM, there is a old school computer in Doomguy's mancave. To unlock doom 1, you need to collect all the cheat discs (modifiers for previously beaten levels), and for doom 2, you simply need to input the code "flynntaggart". If you want the goodies from linking these games to bethesda.net, go ahead.

This game. This game is just fun to play. It's an addicting pick up and play game that if you like saytisfying action, you've hit the jackpot. Easy to play, harder to master. A mix of hilarious situations and earth-shattering robots is surprisingly fun! They are often updating, wether it's new upgrades, robots, a new chapter for the story, arenas, or a new mode and general, you won't be dissapointed.

Possibly the best vehicle sandbox game ever made. It's great if you just want to mess around or whatever.
