tl;dr: 9.5/10. Closest game to Slay the Spire in terms of quality and uniqueness. Very worth your time.

So far played for a few hours and absolutely loving the game. The unlocks are slow but steady, card and deck combos vary each run, relics and dice add a nice boost to power periodically, and tons of events which lead to replayability.

Im extremely picky when it comes to Roguelike Deckbuilders. Most are far too easy or overwhelmingly hard for 0 reason. This strikes the hard to achieve balance of easy to pick up, hard to master. There are tools in here which allow you to completely break the game. Ive already run across several "one click" builds in my few hours on day 1.

The best thing is it seems they encourage it. Certain upgrades to cards synergize 1:1 with other cards of other colors leading to some very broken combos.

To give you an idea my shortlist of Deckbuilders are as follows.

1. Slay the Spire
2. Monster Train 1 (and 2 so far, check out their demo)
3. Vault of the Void.

This is resting comfortably between monster train and vault of the void right now. Time will tell if it stays there but this is certainly a nice change of pace from all the hearthstone/bad sts clones!

EDIT POST GAME COMPLETION:
8/10. The ending is very drawn out, and the prestige is very lame, but the game itself was a blast from start until the slog of an end. They do the classic "Not give you much but make you grind 10s of thousands of repititious materials to hit a button to win" BS. Classic memes, but the game itself is fun. Took about 20 hours, the rest of the hours you see are from being left on running in the background during daily activities.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My best friend and I started playing together. At the time of writing im at 12.1 hours.
This was all one sitting. The game is very fun, its more about optimization instead of placement planning. It seems bare bones at first, but once you get to the 3rd-4th "level" (keeping it spoiler free here) the game opens up quite a bit.
Protips:
If you need to place a building and have one like it thats upgraded, copy the building and place it. It will copy all the upgrades as well which is a MASSIVE boon.
You can move buildings by clicking and dragging them to a new location, this will build the building again, instantly, with the same materials. Allowing you to really hone in and get as many points as possible.
This is basically factorio without the belts and trains. Its very fun, engaging, and snowballs quickly.
REVIEW
Fantastic little time waster game. The game tells you NOTHING. Im okay with this but it can be a turn off for some.
The widget games (that accompany the tiles) are fun and engaging. Widget Inc truly lets you play as actively or passively as you want. If you like organizing, numbers go brrr, and casually watching your city grow, this game is great.
The only cons I have are:
- Progression is VERY slow until you unlock a few choice items (around T3/Lvl3) then the game speeds up immensely.
- Everything you build (Frames) has an exponential growth applied to it. Later in the game this can lead to common blocks taking ages to complete. I made an array of Warehouses that can hold multiple 10's of thousands of items and let it sit until they filled up. Since doing this I have not had an issue with building on demand. basically, 1 long wait to never wait again if that makes sense.
- The window that shows how much you are currently using (Current Draw vs Output) does not show the actual draw correctly. Example, if there is a project going and you need 200 Iron per Second (200/s) of an item, if you run out of all your currently stored Iron the "current usage" numbers will show an arbitrary number and not your ACTUAL usage/draw. Which can lead to producing more frames/buildings than are needed. Seems to happen a lot with Iron and Oil specifically. The info screen was showing [1020 production | 1204 current usage] which lead me to upgrading and building a ton more buildings. When the project I was working on finished, the actual usage draw was 113. You can still work with the info, its just not as clear and precise as i thought it would be.
TLDR and SCORE
TLDR;
Solid little organization and factory clicker game. Really enjoy the building and optimizing parts. The gameplay does not change from hour 1 to hour 12 that im currently on. But its engaging and fun enough to keep you hooked. Would be nice if there was something else to do while waiting for things to finish, like maybe a mini tower defense game or something, but its not my game and not my vision lol.
SCORE
8.5/10
Highly recommend the game at current price point. Had more fun with this game than i have with others that are quite a bit more expensive.
If you're a fan of incremental games and of clickers, this is a banger!
I played a round and didn't see the hype. I played another round and then played for 6 hours straight.
Amazing game. The build synergies are amazing and each character has its own unique playstyle.
Wizard rocks. 10/10 Amazing game for the price!
Amazing Game. There is some Engrish in here that makes some things confusing. So ill list a few here.
1. In the tutorial it says "BREAK THE GLOBES!" or something along those lines. Those globes are the health regen for blocks that can heal themselves. When you break the orbs the blocks health slows down its regen.
2. Dig Speed is your Drills Speed. Dig Power is how much it hits per block.
3. The cogs are not permanent and can be swapped for other perks at any time. use this to your advantage.
REVIEW:
Amazing Incremental game. Starts very slow, but if you start by digging straight down in a line, you can get powerful quickly.
Drill speed is your best friend, power second, and BLASTS of all kinds are worth your time. Bomber is goated and youll see why.
Amazing game that ive had as much fun with as Gnorp Apologue, Digseum, and the slew of other indie incremental games.
The time you see (10.4 hours at time of writing) was all done in one sitting.
Props to the dev for making an easy to understand and very fun little game!
To the foam helmet wearers in the comments... which seems to be 95% of them.
You can go to Path of Exiles website and go to the "Early Access" page.
https://www.pathofexile.com/my-account/early-access
There is a key on that page for your account. Use that key on steam and you're done. Im playing it rn... Come on guys, learn to read.
Thanks for any points, all points are good points and the more jesters you get, the more you angered a redditor. badges of honor.
700~ Hour Pre-Dawn of the Hunt Review:
Its great. Seriously, it took #1 spot in my steam list after TF2 had been there for 20+ years. This is the game I will play from start to finish and every season. Absolutely incredible and well worth waiting. I was going to wait for POE2 instead of hopping back into POE1 mid-game, decided to wait. Those years dragged on, but man the payoff was worth.
10/10 my current and probably forever GOAT.
STEAMDECK & LINUX FIXES BELOW, REVIEW FIRST:
(Direction to Windows fix as well at the very bottom.)
Hey everyone. First and foremost the game is simply amazing. Its going to take a lot in 2025 to top this and im going to safely say this will be my GOTY. The art direction is beautiful, the story is intense, the boss fight feel like Souls + MMO + ARPG and it flows perfectly. I will say the endgame maps leave some to be desired but we are in the very, very early life of this game. If this is the template going forward then we are in for one hell of an amazing time when it fully releases.
230 hours in at the time of writing this review. Multiple characters, and 1 at 73 currently. Daytrading and slowly working my way through the endgame up to level 100.
I was a massive fan of Diablo up until Diablo 3 and what i played of 4 made me sad that this is where diablo ended up. I have played Grim Dawn, Inquisitor Martyr, Diablo 1 and 2, Chronicon and many more... POE2 puts all of them to shame. Not that they're bad games, just POE2 does everything right except for 1 thing.
The Market. In 2024 its a cumbersome mess. The market is filled to the brim with scammers that GGG has said they will not do anything about, and that its to the end user to prevent getting baited. I do agree with this, but when you have 500K new players playing in a day, who arent Vaal gods, you're gonna run into a lot of issues.
The "Exchange" is already in the game, i dont see why we couldnt do this with items anyway.
What i have learned in trading is that everyone does whatever they can to interact as little as possible. I have a macro for inviting, thanking, then exiting all in 3 presses of a button. Most interactions are instant unless the "saar do not redeems" and the "Nihinigh Read barroons" try and scam you which is every other time.
From price fixing in the market, to tons of scams, it makes new players not want to use it. If you look at reddit, twitter, wherever, people are actively avoiding the market because of the Face 2 Face interactions GGG wants.
If they fix this, (not holding my breath, apparently POE1 players have been saying this since day 1), then i will have no problem with the game at all. I still trade, a whole lot, but no one else I know dares to use the market because of how much of a pain it is learning to daytrade on a frigging ARPG.
in conclusion a tl:dr
tl;dr: Easily my GOTY and after 230 hours im still having as much fun as hours 1-20. Trading needs to be improved, maps need to have some love, but the game is early. Where the game is at right now is an amazing time. Im sure the final product will be incredible.
LINUX USERS:
USE VULKAN
If you are getting terrible FPS with DX12 or your system is a bit older, this will drastically improve your FPS and Stability.
1. Most importantly you MUST run in windowed mode at the start.
2. Head to "/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/"
3. Open "poe2_production_Config.ini"
4. You want your .ini to look like this, with width/height being your own.
resolution_width=1920
resolution_height=1080
renderer_type=Vulkan
fullscreen=false
maximize_window=false
borderless_windowed_fullscreen=false
Save and exit
5. When you launch the game wait for the gears to stop and the POE2 logo to appear.
6. Right click POE2 in taskbar > More > Fullscreen inside KDE.
7. Enable FSR if you want, and done.
This will allow you to go fullscreen without it crashing rendering with Vulkan. There are other tutorials online tell you to set the fullscreen resolution to happen after the game starts, but this always crashed POE2 for me. Trying again writing this, same effect. You can try it if you want, but i will not be listing it here.
YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY TIME. So that is why we kept the .ini the way it is.
TURN OFF PRECACHING AND WIPE CACHE:
When precaching is on the game seems to continually overwrite the shader cache and causes intense stuttering. By doing this you will turn off the long pre-load time, and you will build the area as you go. It has taken me about 20 hours, but now i have 0 lag and went from 15-17 FPS to now 100~ on average after the shaders compile. This issue seems to happen on Nvidia and AMD from what ive seen online. This is the only fix ive found that works.
1. Turn off Precaching inside steam options. Steam > Settings > Downloads (bottom) > Disable Shader Pre-Caching
2. This will vary from machine to machine, but find your POE2 Cache. Mine was located in Appdata inside the PFX folder for POE2. Clear that out, then launch the game.
3. This will take some hours to build, so expect lagging at first, but press F1 on your keyboard to bring up the overlay in game and wait for the shaders bar to finish moving and give it a shot.
After doing this, i went from 15-20 fps with constant spikes and crashes to 100 FPS with 0 issues on an i7-7700k and a 3060. Literally playing better than windows now. Never a crash, and actual good performance. Seems like a lot, but it really isnt. Took me about 10 mins to do in total.
I will be improving this guide and adding it to the Path of Exile Discord. So you can find more info has it happens there.
Good luck Exiles!
First time I played online with randoms, i get shot in the face, game bugs and I dont die.
Proceed to have everyone at the table repeatedly shoot at me and miss, chaos ensues, only to end up one of the last 2 at the table.
Amazing game. 11/10 would recommend.
Warhammer Diablo. Its incredibly fun with friends! Amazing game, and a LOT of hours for the money. On sale it was 19 bucks for everything except the hirophant which ill buy later.
Highly recommend if you like games like Grim Dawn/Diablo/PathOfExile/etc. Has some very fun mechanics but an ARPG through and through.
Suggestions after review.
Update: Completed both the Normal and Winter taverns and 100% the game. 9/10 would recommend. Highly!
Review:
- The game is fantastic. I was warned this game would eat your time, i started playing at 6am and didnt realize that 8 hours flew by on the first day. So be forwarned. Its just so much fun. The game does a great job of explaining most things to you. (Except for the counter/takeout. Only thing I had to lookup. Check the "Special" tab in the build section for the counter you need to place the takeout)
Tavern Master has the look and feel of Runescape to me with incredibly addicting gameplay. You can either go for looks like my best friend did, or go for absolute min/maxing like i did.
Some areas could use more work, such as the thieves. I have 1 guard at max equipment and hes enough forever. Never have to upgrade or actually worry about thieves past the first time getting robbed. Would be cool if that was expanded on a little. 24 hours of gameplay at the time of writing this and i have never seen a "High" thief threat either.
The game has a lot of easily exploitable mechanics as well. Such as being able to force missions to come back daily by removing key items, then replacing them repeatedly leading to easy quest points. When a waitress levels up you can lower their salary down immensely and make them cheaper for the rest of your run. Bedrooms can be maxed by shoving 2 mirrors into the room when you have the 5 star equipment, allowing you to shove 5 beds into 1 small room and make insane money. So many more but i wont go into more detail for obvious reasons.
Those things taken into consideration, i still say this game is an absolute must play. Its simple, to the point, well thought out, and a blast to play. I snagged it for 5 bucks, and certainly got my moneys worth out of it!
Super fun, and look forward to more DLC, updates, whatever is planned!
Suggestions for the Devs:
1. Please make a toggle/icon/button to toggle the floors waitresses can go to. One button to select/deselect all the floors the waitresses can go to. Hiring 20+ new waitresses and having to click each individual button is akin to torture lol.
2. Right click to fill barrels. Same way we can right click to fill the storage chests.
3. Upgrade for tables/chairs. There is a clear upgrade path when you're looking at the furniture. Having to sell all the tables and chairs and rebuy the new ones seems unneeded. If we could highlight them all and upgrade them to the next tier i think that would be super useful.
