This game is amazing, and it's a shame that Microsoft is as dumb as they are disbanding Tango Gameworks. I wish the devs all the luck in finding work, because this is a masterpiece of a game

!!WARRNING: LONG POST!!
(This was not intended to be this damn long, sorry. But I got a lot to say. Overall score bolded at the end.)

I am a pretty new HS fan. Started reading it last Christmas and finished it around late January. I got sucked in firstly from Hiveswap and it hit me in the interest lobe enough to get me to here and now. All this to say that I'm not a die-hard fan from the 2009-2013 crowd, but a newbie.

I will be addressing the bad before the good, just so you know what you're getting into.

Now about the game. I'm usually not a fan of isometric cameras, but it works here well enough, until when crap you need to progress the game is hidden behind a fence or railing and you can't move the camera well enough to snatch it before it slips away again. The movement is clunky and sometimes slow for some reason. One moment, I'm as slow as a snail walking down a hallway, next I'm at regular speed. No clue why it does this but it's annoying. I know that this nitpick is probably canon considering the source material, but the sburb controls and general new player feel is a void of information, it doesn't tell you a damn thing.
My last complaint before the good things about this game, is the occasional moments where no matter what you do, you will always confirm picking something up/using it. One moment I needed the SBURB disk out of the computer but needed to put it back in because I am absentminded sometimes. So when I tried to select it from my sylladex, I couldn't select it. It was like I was picking it up then immediately back down in the sylladex again. Around 3 times this happened where I needed to quit and come back into the game.

Now you might be wondering how the hell am I going to recommend you a game with this many flaws? Well let me tell you.

The authenticity to how Homestuck operated back in ACTS 1-3 is amazing, and that is somewhat in part of the frustration and finicky nature of the game that I listed as negative points above. From moments of deleting my stairs requiring me to use the ones I made outside to get to the 2nd floor. Taking in one too many things in my sylladex and the first thing I picked up launched out like a rocket (which was a bottle of milk, just call me Scout TF2). And punching up so many items and not making carvings for them as back-ups which might bite me in the ass later but whoops. It's those moments that make the feeling of playing feel in-universe.
Another reason as to why I recommend this, is Homestuck as both a franchise and a fanbase kinda needs a W at this point. WhatPumpkin is probably dusted by now minus a few people with determination the size of Texas actually doing work and keeping the lights on. The presence of HS has been dwindling more and more each year. And it feels sad, because I just got here not too long ago, and it's at a state like this. It's like if each fandom was a big ol' city filled with fans and supplied at the core with either fanworks, or official stuff. After the CF that was/is the Epilogues and Homestuck2, our city had been reduced to ruins for about 60% of it. I want to see this franchise at least get some closure so the fans can takeover fully instead of what we have now.

Am I trying to guilt trip you to trying out this game and helping it be better by playing and testing it? Depends on if it's working, really. But there is some true potential here on display, and the one thing I hate more than attention seeking Serket's, is when a game/show/movie whatever, has massive amounts of potential to be good, cool, or awesome even, but for whatever reason the potential is never reached. So If you need a number to determine if a game is worth your time or not then I give The Genesis Project a 6.5/10 overall. Room for improvement and supreme amounts of potential make this game worth trying out.

A bit rough around the edges, but a quaint and funny story that has some good ass combat.

This is a damn lovely game that doesn't piss about with angst or seriousness. It's fun, lighthearted, and sometimes stupid as hell. And that's why I love it.

It is a damn charming game that is sort of like a time capsule for the memes that were frequently made during the year each one was made. I highly recommend it.

This game has a wonderful soundtrack as well as beautiful artwork and animation. I am very excited to see where it goes with the story.
