This game C A N be fun, but it just ends up not being fun unfortunately.

The reason why I have so many hours is back when DayZ started after the mod, it was playable, and could be alright every now and again.

When it is fun is after you meet up with your friends, which brings me back to why I have so many hours.

Most of this game is trying to meet up with your friends, you spend hours upon hours trying to meet up with them. You don't have the option to spawn close to them either [unless you try to die and respawn, and die and respawn immediately. But even that is not a guarantee]. There's no way to choose a spawn area.
This makes the game less fun. Constantly on the verge of dying due to hunger in the beginning, having to run for hours just trying to get to someone isn't great or good, and I think this should be improved.

Dying doesn't just suck because you lose stuff, dying mainly sucks because of what is mentioned above.

After meeting up with your friends, after hours of searching, you then slowly build up again. For my friends and I we usually die to other players right when we get okay or good gear. Then it all starts over again.

DayZ had gotten bad for a while, zombies were glitchy or didn't exist, items didn't spawn often. But then that seems to have been fixed years later. This part of the game is probably alright now.

Only two days ago I had 75 hours, now I have 97, which about 40 mins actually being with friends before dying. Similar experiences prior.

We're not pros, and might die easily, and that's probably a factor. But not super part of my frustration. I love rogue-like games, this sort of fits that bill. I love building your characters up, and the chances you can take. I like learning little meta things.

There's just that one main aspect that makes the game teeth grindingly frustrating, and I just don't think I can stand to try it anymore.

If this is ever resolved, I think it would be a great game.

Edit: After reading other reviews I'm going to look into PvE or Mods to see if that's any better, but I have extremely low expectations.

It's Halo, it's great! Fantastic to have official Halo.
Being able to play all this on PC has been huge, and taking part in the campaign is fun as heck!

Gripes at the moment; I mainly only want the EVA helmet, but it looks like I won't even be able to get it. I can't choose it if I want to unlock it. Pretty lame... This season system isn't all that fantastic.

The multiplayer lobbies don't really give you enough time to do anything and throw you into another game. You don't get to ready up, which sucks. It also looks like you get punished for leaving games too much, which again sucks because you can't ready up to confirm you want to play.

My party leader left while I was in menus and was just chucked into a game.

Early Access Review
This game is awesome! If you're looking for a 3D Rogue-like, look no further.

I keep forgetting that this game is still Early Access, because it feels complete. But there is still lore to be written, new items, maps, and characters to be added, and a lot of time between that.

This game is great for a personal challenge, and there are many differing builds you can go through for items. It's interesting to go through each time.

The best experience is playing with friends. If you have a pal or two, just jump in and go. Teamwork is fantastic, or playing competitively. You can't go wrong.

Each character brings something different to the table. I don't like a couple of the characters, but it's perfect because my pals fill in those roles [as they love those characters]. I feel like as this game expands, it'll just have something for everyone.

Early Access Review
Steam didn't let me post this the first time around.

---

I had gotten this game roughly 1 week ago on April 22nd. It's May 1st, and I have 95.3 hours sunk into this game. It's been a blast!

There are so many adventures to have on each island, the upgrades for your ship are and ever-inspiring motivation. Having control over what your ship looks like, from frame to materials, the cosmetics, and the search for good schematics. I love running into people, good or bad. I love gathering materials. I love the fact that each of these islands are player made. I wish you could claim areas and build there. But at the moment that makes no sense.

I had a couple errors when starting the game, but contacting the support team led me to a fix very quickly.

There are a couple bugs in game, and losing your items is a possibility. But the progression is so nice in the game, it's alright. The bugs are absolutely worth bearing for this game.

I can't wait to see where this game is taken. I'm now contemplating getting the expansion for the game, due to how much I like this, and how many hours I have sunk into this.

The first two tiers are a bit barren at the moment, and lack a lot of battles, or interaction. But I think this is perfect for learning. Where-as afterwards, you will find players. Earning the trust of others, and having other people earn your trust, is very intense.

If you're looking for some fun, it is here with this game.

---

I now have 239.8 hours in this game. I love it to bits. Once you get past the first two tiers, the game really takes off. Going solo and farming knowledge is one way to do things. But joining a group of people makes the game much more enjoyable.

This game is fantastic, and terrifying. It's stress inducing, but it's fun as heck.

I play on the PvP servers, and you never know what's around the bend.

Regardless of what bugs the game has, this game is worth it.

After figuring out where the files were, thanks to a helpful review, I love being able to hear the full HL2 OST. Half-Life was a huge part of my life, so finding this is amazing.

"Computer > [disk where you've installed steam] > Steam > SteamApps > common > Half-Life 2 > Soundtrack > Half-Life 2 - Soundtrack" From said helpful review.

Early Access Review
I'm editing/changing my review. As of right now, I would not recommend this game to friends anymore.

I want to say this outright, before I get in to my reasoning.

At it's core, Robocraft has been a very fun game, and had a lot of potential to be competitive.
It has complete customization control, and interesting mechanics.

But, in it's current state, the game can be incredibly rough to play. As a comparison, getting parts to build a robot, and get to the end game [to play a bit mroe competitively] was a lot easier than it is now. Previously you were able to earn currency, and spend it on specific parts, to build the robot you envisioned to battle with. Now, it is up to a pseudo-random crate system; in which you get parts from [to build your robots].

The crate system, though left with a lot of potential, has it's downfall in sellback. As mentioned; you used to be able to earn currency, now you can break down parts you have won in order to gain currency. This would not be an issue if prices of parts was substantially lower, or if sellback was a lot higher. When you break down a part you gain around 10% of it's value, and most parts are already generally low value. Cubes, and lower tiered items cost a lot less,a nd are common. Where-as high-tier functional parts that are important to a build, and astronomically priced. Some important parts take you around 150 games just to gain a functional piece. This is no good for someoen who has a specific build in mind.

On top of the crate system, there are very few weapons that are viable, at the moment. The pool of weapons we have vs. that in which are viable is a little ridiculous. The weapons were recently flattened from a tier system in order to give plausible viability to ever form of weapon present. This may change in the future, but at the moment it is no good. Energy is a component in the game similar to mana; and some weapons eat up mana too quickly, other weapons may not use mana efficiently, yet do not do enough damage to be plausible in the current meta.

The second last gripe of the game is loyalty. I have played many hours of this game, and I can say that loyalty is only a pat on the head, and a brush to the side. There are those who are loyal, and popular, who get Freejam's attention, but overall being loyal has no perks. When Freejam make changes to the game, it is the new player base who have voices, and only in statistics. It seems that those who have stayed throughout the years have little to no say in the gamestate, now.
The vocal members of the community have been met with much resistance at times, and other times outright ignored. This is something I find to be an issue, due to the fact I very much like this game, and I want to see it move forward. This makes it feel that the community that was built almost doesn't matter, and might not matter moving forward.

Lastly; Freejam's communication skills have always seemed to be low. i'm unsure if it's due to low staff, or... Well, I'm not even sure. Some of the staff are rude, sometimes they are dismissive. Other times when Freejam communicates things they are 100% transparent [which you should never be], and take back what they say soon after. Othertimes, there are concepts brought up; promised, but then dropped without a word. Overall Freejam have been very heavy handed in a lot of what they do, and at times it's been frustrating.

This game has potential to thrive again, I believe in it. But at the moment, I feel it would be very hard to recommend to people, seeing how hard it is to pick up and play. How hard it is to get to the real gameplay [max level, a decent amount of parts], and how hard it is to learn a lot of things [no tutorial, unintuitive hud].

So until this haze clears up, This is my stance.

Old Review:

I would like to start off by saying that whoever is to play this, just remember that it is an Early Access game. They are still in Alpha! Alpha means that very large changes may occur, and the gameplay may change!
The game trailers basically depict what the game is like, but there are huge changes, or some things [parts] that are featured might not be in the game!

The reason why I warn this is because; when I joined I did not think the game was going to change so much. One of the main reasons I kept playing was to use a mechanic that is not longer supported.

Now that, that is out of the way...
I love Robocraft! I think it's a fantastic game, which has a pretty awesome community!
The community is constantly building new designs. Sometimes there are designs that are on top for weeks, sometimes you see them for days. There are huge variations between each bot through many matches! [Though there are builds that are standard and you see a lot, too!]

I keep playing this game now due to the creativity!
Building new bots, learning what is good, how to be as intricate as I can be... These are all things I hold on to in Robocraft.

The game may be changing, but the core is still there. You build a bot, you drive that bot how you like, and you play the heck out of it for hours while fighting off other people's bots!

How strong is your bot, how nimble? Do you give one up for the other? Does it have the desired power?

Keep trying! Keep crafting those bots!
