So far this is the best NFS of the decade and here's why. (FYI I put a total of 108 hours into this game with origin launcher and steam launcher combined)
For the past couple of years nfs was a struggling franchise that had many misses rather than hits. It struggled with payback being lacklustre and boring, nfs 2015 was a horrific reboot a lot to hate about the game and let's not forget mw 2012 which was just one of the biggest disappointments in the entire franchise. This game is a huge comeback, not to full glory but a comeback that shows the ghost can deliver a great game (shame that they are shut down because they were onto something) and it looks like we may have a bright future for NFS if criterion continue that route. Let's start off with good points. The customisation as with most of the nfs games is fantastic, from great widebody selections to exhaust note tuning to engine swapping this game still proves that when it comes to customising cars nfs is still the better series at doing so. I have no idea why people think forza horizon is somehow better with customisation when it just isn't. Maybe it's because forza allows you to drive train swap anything to awd and it makes the car instantly better because people are boring, whereas in nfs heat when it comes to performance upgrades it is very simplistic and easy to understand when you have a chart showing where your car sits within performance standings, from grip to drift and on road to off road. Another thing that nfs heat nails has to be the map. Now I hear people saying bUt ThE mAp iS dEaD, until you realise why. The more I played the more I realised why there aren't so many cars on the road and it all comes down to is sense of speed and cop chases. Even with the low traffic population, when I'm going so fast in a car blitzing through the map, the traffic feels like they are around the corner at every turn waiting to catch you off guard making you damage your car (another cool feature added to the game), to me there is just enough amount of traffic to give you a breathing space before making you rage while you're going 200+mph in a McLaren or a Ferrari especially in cop chases. And overall I feel like nfs got the modern Miami vibe right alongside the soundtrack but to me I feel like soundtrack is all up to people's taste in music and it can get repetitive so I would recommend just looking at songs on spotify if you fancy . Another thing I love about this game are races in day and night. For the first time in a long while I felt risk in a racing game and maybe it's just me but I love the feeling that I can risk so much and it's either a massive satisfaction suriving heat level 5 or a gutted feeling that you didn't bank in the rep earlier. I also love that the heat level is a rep multiplier because that pushes you to go further. It's also great to see that the day n night cycle isn't just a gimmick, since you have to go through both of them to progress further in the game (Day = earn money, night = earn rep). Another thing I like about this game is it's graphics, with a good you rig can enjoy this beautiful game with it's lighting and night effects. I got a rtx 3070 with ryzen 5 3600 and to me this game through low and high speed looks fantastic. Final major plus has to be the campaign but it's not perfect. I really liked that this didn't feel like too much of a fast and furious knock off like payback was and despite having few cheesy lines (let's be fair nfs story wouldn't complete without a bit of cheese) for some reason this story was just so much better than anything nfs released over the decade (maybe it matches the run story) but I won't get into spoilers. Before you twist my words or anything MW05 still has the best story of any NFS to this day. Either way I really enjoyed the story but here is where cons begin. Few more things i like before I move on to cons:
1. Car list
2. Handling (10x better than nfs 2015)
3. Car sounds (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing especially with exhaust tuning)
4. Limited repairs in the night
5. Heat races for exclusive parts
Now first con has to be the length of the story. If I was trying to smash through the main story asap, it'd be done in about 5 hours (maybe less) and as I mentioned earlier I really liked the story but I felt like it could've been a bit longer. Next thing I didn't like is the lack of support for this game because there's not a lot to make me come back to the game unless I want to 100% complete the game with collectables and ♥♥♥♥. No proper online races or events (which I must give it to forza they do that well) and if EA would've given more time or a chance for GHOST to work on this game instead of shutting them down, I reckon that this game would've had couple of DLC's, more online features added and the game could've been better. And despite having few crashes and bugs, I feel like this game is a massive step forward. It leave a lot to be desired for some but as a fan of nfs underground 1 & 2, most wanted 2005 and carbon I am really satisfied and if you're a fan of those games you will be too. I feel like personally I had more fun on this game than Forza Horizon 3 and 4 combined. To me Forza Horizon is just boring and I don't understand how people think Forza Horizon is the best racing game ever when it just isn't. This game is better than forza horizon 3 & 4 and don't let people who don't play racing games tell you otherwise because at the end of the day they'll won't play this game for more than 3 or 4 hours since they already had enough fun with their Lambo since it's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ easy to get xD. Jokes asides I highly recommend this game for people who want to try out a new racing game and give this game a chance. Best way to get it is on discount with the deluxe edition or EA play (The better option if you're not gonna play the game for a long time).
