At first upon reading reviews I had my doubts that this game would become one of my favourites. In fact, the first few hours of gameplay, for me, were quite frustrating because I've never played a game with controls quite like this before, and getting the hang of everything was difficult to say the least. Not to mention how unforgiving this game in terms of deaths and the location of save points - I did rage quit a few times.

However, after playing for some time I found myself starting to agree with this viewpoint. This game has portrayed its core themes and artistic ideas so well. Trust me when I say, when reaching some regions/levels of this game there is a sense of awe and wonder that I haven't felt since I first played portal 2. The art, visuals, AI, story and lore, general gameplay, music, and much more are ALL absolutely breathtaking. It's hard to describe exactly what I mean without giving away spoilers - but this game definitely made me FEEL things!

So, this is absolutely one of my favourite games of all time. It's incredible.

If you've played the game or seen it before, you'll know which section I'm talking about regarding the "awe". When entering the Five Pebbles superstructure, the sheer size and power of everything is incredible! The developers nailed this section of the game. Suddenly having to manoeuvre in zero-G made the entire area feel special to begin with - like you have stumbled into something far grander and more ancient than you can understand. But, for me, the sheer DETAIL of the region, for example its bio-mechanical, bio-engineered, organic ecosystem-electronic computer hybrid structure, is probably what shocked and inspired me the most. I dabble in a bit of speculative exobiology art myself, and concepts like bio-mechanics and such are some of my favourite in sci-fi. I've never seen it portrayed to this scale and in such an epic and awe-inspiring way. And artistically, it's so fresh and unique (at least from my experience). When you're making your way through Five Pebbles, you really get a grasp of just HOW powerful and intelligent he must be. And the idea that he has STILL failed to solve the problem he was created for, despite this, gives you a sense of the sheer magnitude of his dilemma, and how he could do such horrible things to Rainworld's ecosystems and his fellow Iterators in search of his goal. I don't think any other media I've ever encountered has been able to portray such themes to anything close to this ability. It is magnificent!

Is a great game in every way. Can't help but think the controls are optimised for the switch but otherwise things were all good.

A few times some events didn't trigger such as dialogue or NPC actions but otherwise bug free

I can tell the story was good, but I literally couldn't comprehend a single second of it. Most people seem to be crying over it though, so (probably) recommended on that alone.

The best space simulator ever, and it includes literally everything you could ever want to visualise about space! Anything not known to science is procedurally generated exceedingly well. The physics and everything work perfectly. Everything is polished even down to the amazing soundtrack!
