Early Access Review
*Some notes about this game*

There's obviously been allot of controversy regarding this game and I've gotta say, there's allot of butthurt fan but some like myself understand the change that is coming round.

Let's face it, arena shooters are very niche in this time period. The likes of Quake III Arena and the original Unreal Tournaments remain old staples today. Quake Champions brings different characters and abilities to the table which people claim are "unbalanced" and don't respect the old days of relying on pure skill. I'm here to tell you that with this game, you still need allot of skill to be able to play this well. The depth is there, the rocket jumps, the strafe jumping, the excellent map design (maybe some not so much but I'm still trying to get good :P ), it feels like Quake III and honestly compliments it in such a fashion that allows a broader audience to come and give this a game a try instead of getting completely thrashed (you will still get thrashed if your a complete newcomer :P ). The abilites each character has is not integral to the game and cannot be solely reliable to win you the game. This game may be inspired by overwatch, but it is not overwatch, it is very much the Quake experience but with an extra layer of icing :)

That been said, this is in early access and I believe they are still balancing some of the characters (most of them have been looked at). The monetization in this game is indeed very strange, I was initally confused as to whether it was Free-To-Play or not. There roughly 9 champions, 2 of which will be free to you and a few of them will undergo a free champion rotation every week. If you want to buy the champions you can buy the champion pack to support the game you got FOR FREE or you can spend a ridiculous amount of favour (in game non-premium currency earned by playing and completing challenges) for buying individual champions. Ranger (the base champion you get) will be one of your best champions in the game. In no way do you *need* to spend money on getting other champions, the gameplay experience is all there. The ranger is beginner AND veteran friendly.

TL:DR

This game looks amazing. This game feels like a dream. Every frag feels so good. We have been given a chance to relive the arena shooter genre and if you can't accept this game then they may not be another chance. Arena shooters have been done before and yes, even in this time period and they have failed at obtaining a successful player base. It hasn't worked, so they have tried to do something different. This game is to allow another chance and to offer a new experience for new players too as well as old. If it's free this weekend, give it a shot you have nothing to lose. If your an oldie, don't be toxic plez, we need to build a healthy player base.

Update: The free champion rotation is only around occasionally. Matchmaking can also be very slow. If you aren't in team deathmatch, you might be looking at more than 5 minutes waiting time :/ Again, its a niche genre. Look at memes while you wait ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
