I don't really care that they removed the softcore porno shots, but I do think it's a bit tasteless to mess about with Big Band's backstory like that. Still a pretty good game though, and I still respect the technical achievements it represents. Also, mike z is a creep.

Got this for free years back, finally decided to crack it open.

The Good: The sniping game has good sniping. I like figuring out my ballistics on the fly, though with the exception of the faster one the sniper rifles feel a bit interchangeable. The enemies in the first half are also relatively fair, and it feels good finally landing those gas cap shots on tanks once you figure out where they are (the side and in front, spoiler!)

You can also allegedly shoot hitler in the funny bits, but I haven't figured out the challenge mode options to get there so who even knows.

The Bad:
There is next to no point in using the smgs, and stealth is similarly kind of worthless since enemies stay alert way too long and on the highest difficulties spot you from unfair angles. The AI is also utterly dreadful, simultaneously too good at spotting you and too dumb to avoid getting shot. Whenever they enter alert mode, they start running around in the open, and whenever they have a bead on you they'll just lemmings into doorways to try and overwhelm you. Rarely if ever did I feel like a death was earned, especially once the sniper enemies come into play.

I cannot express how loathsome those snipers are. They will kill you before you even know where they are half the time because it takes two shots to put you down, but there's no guarantee you'll be able to spot them before the second shot because they also have a quick fire rate and visibility in this game is best described as beige dog-water.

The visuals are similarly... kinda drek. If you like the sepia and grey visuals of yesteryear's deluge of ww2 shooters, it's just more of that with a more late xbox 360 visual fidelity.

Surprisingly, the slow-mo snipershot cam doesn't get old, mostly because it gives you a breather and time to think around situations. Once the novelty of the fatalities wears off, there's still value in the situational awareness it gives you since enemies still render when they're going. Several times this helped me spot enemies lurking around corners or heading for me from a blind-spot. It also helps with the sometimes-spotty readability of kill-confirm messages, the one thing I do wish is that you could skip them, but that's still better than I expected going in.

Finally, the story is beyond generic and also extremely stupid. By the final act you're fighting the russians, who I may remind you WERE NOT PART OF THE AXIS POWERS! Why are we shooting russians in their winter gear in the middle of berlin while ALLIED with them? It then ends on a line about being the "first soldier in the cold war."

The one-liners and grit are extremely dull and you can just skip the story entirely for the shooting gallery.

Also, some parts are way tighter on timings than you'd think. The tanks on the bridge fails the moment they set an inch on the far side, not when they're all the way off, meaning there's no way to get all three. Tragic.

ultimately, a 3/10 game I feel like I kinda wasted my time playing.

This game is extremely fun and rewards you for trusting the level design to not ♥♥♥♥ you over. Enemies are spaced very precisely to enable you to get the perfect run if you're able to get good enough with the movement to do so, while still feeling fun even if you can't.

Easily some of the best flow-state I've felt in a platformer in a LONG while. The movement is easy to learn, hs about a middle-difficulty skill-cap, and high reward for reaching it.

Thank you steam for eating my initial review, very cool and not at all a UI problem I thought we fixed in bloody 2008.

God.

Anyways, this game suffers from really awkward dialogue in a game where that's the only appeal. Everyone repeats what they're saying a lot, and the redundancies are super noticeable, resulting in a narrative-driven survival-lite where the dialogue is being spoken by gravelly, mysterious toddlers.

There's clearly a lot of passion here, but the gameplay falls into that deadzone of annoying and repetitive that a lot of poorly thought out survival games do and as a result fails to sink its hooks in.

In the future, if I were to speak directly to the developers; playtesting will spot these problems. It's desperately boring work, pay someone to do it. The editing is needed and the benefits to your game design are well worth the money. These problems could have been minimized any number of small ways, but in the end your game wound up with not enough payoff for way too much dull busywork.

A truly fantastic experience, anything I say about it will unfortunately spoil what makes it so great. This is a game very contingent on thinking your way through what to do and where to go.

Great game, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible default control scheme. I can't for the life of me figure out how to rebind controls.

You move with wasd and attack with k, which sounds fine and dandy but it feels like such awkward hand placement on the keyboard. I also can't find a way to pause the game, hitting esc didn't work and nothing in the i menu resembled a settings screen.

This is an unfinished game. All that said, it's a pretty immersive unfinished game, and a lot of the mechanics are pretty solid. You'll die a few times over trying to gain basic-necessity skills though, and I firmly believe it takes way too long to build those given how important they are mid to lategame.

Also, zombie spawns can get a bit nutty at times, I reccomend turning those down or off. I've yet to figure out how to do that, but running into a horde of 100 zombies outside a warehouse in the remote wilderness is, frankly, absurd.

Garry's mod is almost entirely unchanged from how it was in 2012. You go in any server, there's a ten year old shouting racial slurs and some teenager making sex moans into his mic. Everyone's audio quality sounds like it's filtered through a layer of greasy tin-cans.

Someone is screaming about prop blocking and RDM, everyone's ignoring the traitor murdering someone in broad daylight, and one of the t-weapons is a minecraft house that screams in russian and explodes.

In short, it's about as much of an edgelord's paradise as ever. Great to see the spirit of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from such a bygone era survive in some form!

This game is EXHAUSTINGLY fast-paced, but in a very good way.
Take your time to learn the mechanics, try not to rush directly into CONSTANT MOVE MOVE MOVE BULLETSPAM PARRYHYPE thinking. You can survive a lot more than you think by slowing down a bit and strafing.

I do mean what I said about exhaustion, though. This game's gonna really push you to learn it. This is a good thing however, as instead of being something that makes the game frustrating and un-fun it more makes the levels feel like a properly-measured challenge that you can take one at a time.

A lot of the guns also have pretty high skill ceilings, and all of them have a variant with an even HIGHER skill ceiling. The shotgun, for example, has a charge shot version and an pump action version. The charge shot version is all about timing and keeping your distance when you fire the charge-blast, while the overcharge version is more tricky. With the pump, you load an extra cartridge in with each right click, and if you load too many you'll explode for 50 damage when you fire. This is a mixed downside though, since what you can do is dash right as you fire off the explosion to negate the damage and use the powerful blast to take out whole groups of enemies.

You can also punch your shotgun blasts to make them go faster which is hilarious and rad.

If you're looking for something that'll satisfy your need for action REAL QUICK, I highly recommend this game!
