a much better game than 1 that did not require me to mess around to troubleshoot for a controller to work

the rest of the game is also much more pleasant with more features (like color palettes) and fleshed out movesets. strongly recommend if you enjoy beat em ups

it's a fine enough game! the only issue i (personally) see is the fact that the rangers all play the same, and so that makes the combat a bit dull. I'd recommend playing on easy and just smashing your way through stages.

if you are looking for depth, there are better beat em ups (streets of rage 4, fight'n rage) out there for that, and if you're looking for something that sticks to the more faithful beat em up genre but seeks to evolve it a bit, Shredder's revenge is the obvious go-to.

that said, what this game has got going for it, it's more diversity than those : in-game arcade cabinets with unique games, super sized battles, and vehicle segments. for some, that'll be more miss than hit, but i think it's very welcome (and for certain vehicle segments, the rangers play differently! where was that energy for the move sets??)

however, for what's on offer, even with the praise i'm giving it, i think the price is a *bit* steep. for most people, this will be a game to purchase on discount, if even.

most people will be displeased with this game and the lack of "progress" you can make, but it personally didn't have me throwing my hands up in the air at some of its "quirks". i AM side-eyeing a LOT of beat em up with rpg leveling mechanics, which i personally strongly dislike and think of antithetical to the genre!!!!

tl;dr i think it's fine but i don't think it should be the offering most people go for when looking for a beat em up

if you didn't like Heist this isn't for you, however if you did this expands on nearly every idea they put in the original game.

a lot of people would find annoyances like "getting back to the tavern to end the day" but it's not really any different from 1's world map where you'd go from ship to ship to look at vendors. didn't irk me, but I could see it being a point of contention.

just a good game all around, and I think it looks super good visually

it's fine but it's one of those ARPGs where you hyperfocus one skill and your entire build kind of revolves around it. so if you hate that then look elsewhere

also the click detection is kind of not great. something just fels off about clicking stuff.

not a bad time all around.

There's both a lot to do and yet not a lot.

The game is loaded with different classes to try out (picking 2 different masteries to make a class is very cool) but it feels very... dull to play? It isn't particularly interesting to experience or explore unless you are loaded with nostalgia. It feels very old, despite being more recent than hallmarks of the genre, and it falls very flat to me as a package.

I say there's not a lot because the game is essentially running to the next room (even if there's a lot of rooms), and while for a while the decor is fine, but it gets dull really quick when the maps are big, the environmental markers lacking, and the flavor missing. There just isn't anything remarkable about the areas as you try to just run through them.

I would save your money and try another ARPG, unless you really want to play it.

the inspiration is clear as day but it still does this own thing. i think people remember wario land 4 to be this fast-paced game, but it really wasnt, and this carves out its own identity in a fashion that looks and feels great to play

also it has a dedicated screaming button
