even in spite of seemingly existing input lag, i still had a mostly decent time playing x1 through 4. the only real issue i ran into personally is not even input lag, but that X1 through 3 are genuinely hard games. from all the praise i've seen these games get over the years i genuinely thought they would be easier but no turns out they're hard.

a not bad way to experience the classics i guess? though do yourself a favor and turn off the pixel smoothing filter. i don't understand why it even exists.

the game is visually impressive in its presentation, and has an interesting narrative

unfortunately, it's dull in every other aspect : exploration, combat, handling, you name it. nothing about the game made me want to keep playing. the only solace is that it is not particularly long.

would not recommend it.

i initially got the game in a bundle, because i enjoy grid-based strategy games, and i sort of dismissed it as a janky and cheap fire emblem clone to play eventually

turns out i was wrong and stupid because this game is very very good!!! the squad management and strategy is incredibly fun. i think this game is well worth your time.

before anything else : if you are photosensitive, don't even think about playing this game.

secondly : this isn't a metroidvania, but more of an old-school adventure game, so buyer's beware!

overall, wouldn't recommend the game. i think it looks and plays fine enough, but the story just isn't particularly enticing enough to carry the rest of the idea, unfortunately. there's nothing particularly hard about the game, but it just feels really tedious and repetitive. especially the bosses - quite a few of them are just tedious for the sake of being tedious.

HOWEVER, i will say the soundtrack is truly excellent. part of what kept me going to the end.

a very honest game that doesn't try to hinder you with stupid puzzles or levels, it's very straight forward and never really hides its hand. the action is good, the game handles well, and i still think it looks fine 15 years later. i booted it up expecting a bad game, but it's a fun time, and you can play co-op if you so desire.

all in all, a decent time!!

very ambitious to introduce Hana early in the story to ensure i don't care about any other character....

i think the game is very fun!

the most "novel" thing about it is the combat, which is a mix of ideas from various other games. it's also a bit lengthy, but you don't go into combat every 3 seconds, so that balances it out.

the character designs are all very fun (and good!), the music is very enjoyable, and the game looks pretty good visually. story is alright too!

i'd say it's worth playing.

the base of a good game is present, but there's just too many things preventing me from having a blast.

- the game is too dark. i understand probably by design, but when most of the game is dimly lit areas, it starts to get grating
- gun feel is off. it's not all bad but every gun is just missing kind of a final oomph to get over the finish line
- levels are way too long. would be way more enjoyable if they were shrunk to half the size they are. secrets in games are nice, but it feels like levels are designed to be labyrinths just because they wanted to stick 20 secrets in there
- it's not an easy game. i don't expect a game to owe me a free win, but even on easy you gotta put in the work to get anything done

on the upside, the power ups are a cool idea and can be game changing when used correctly, and the default blade feels good to use. on that same note, it also feels too good to use because the dash attack mulches way more enemies than even the stronger guns arguably should.

i'd recommend it on sale if you are an absolute Quake fanatic but other than that i don't know, i don't think it's particularly remarkable, unfortunately
