Loved the original game, finished it like 8 times, IMO the best game i've played to date so i was waiting towards this game since they announced the remake.

The map has changed a lot and some locations with it. Driving physics are even better than in mafia II. The story was identical and would have been disappointed if it wasn't, also it felt a lot faster compared the the original, as there weren't a lot of driving after completing the missions. Free ride phone booth missions are as difficult as they were before.

So far absolutely great remake.

On the negative side, car damage is not as detailed as the original. Still miss the wheels falling off when you crash real hard. And also tommy gun ammo stacks to only 100 which does run out fast and aim is quite awful. I was disappointed as there was no riding the train or tram involved with missions and you cannot even enter them. Paulie is just plain hideous to look at even when he isn't smiling. Ralphie doesn't teach you how to steal individual cars, but just one car in general. The gangsters from free ride have been removed, absolutely everybody is scared of you on the streets except the police. No currency in free ride. The missions are cut real short, no no pre planning the bank heist, you just go there and get it done. Also while visiting rich people in the original game could have been done stealth, with this game the alarm triggers nevertheless. Police gets notified with no witnesses unlike original game. I could go on forever about the minor details like no turn signals, turning the engine off, neutral gear and the list goes on. Other reviews have some good examples aswell.



But they had to involve motorcycles to the game. Would have been fine, but there is a story mission which requires to drive one and oh boy is it bad. The handling feels like 4 year old learning to drive a bike. Even the slightest steering input results in massive handle bar wobble and potentially crash, where you will fall off the bike. It is awful at slow speeds and even worse at high speeds. I guess it has to do with me playing the game on keyboard and the driving was made to be played on controller, but you couldn't include steering wheels to the game????? Almost impossible to hit jumps or small passageways while driving. And they just had to add one motorcycle to the already difficult phone booth missions.

It really hurts me to give a negative review for this game, but unfortunately a neutral one isn't possible, but the cut up story and missing details along with these damned bikes just ruined the game for me.
