A product of love for the horror genre, in all forms of media. A delightful revival of the classic resident evil formula after the AAA-bloat disaster that was RE6. While this game does have a bit of trouble sticking the landing in terms of game length, opting to continue the story and go through two additional sections after what seems to be the climax of the game, it is still a joy throughout and aside from this slight pacing issue at the end, the rest of the game is incredibly fun and keeps the adrenaline and tension going at just the right levels. Worth getting the complete edition with all DLC when it's on sale. While the DLC can be a bit hit or miss depending on what you do and don't enjoy about the game, there's something for everyone, from a survival mode, to a new take on the classic mercenaries mode with a festive theme, to tense escape the room and stealth sequences, or even insane hard modes and additional campaigns that tie up loose ends of the story. And for a change of pace, there's even a card game mode with a Saw movie trap theme.

If you're a fan of horror, this game is an absolute must buy.

This review will be updated in time as the game is updated. I want to recommend this game, as I have been a fan of R-Type since the first few games over 30 years ago now. But right now the game has issues, issues that can hopefully be fixed!

Right now the game is buggy, has lag issues during key moments of fights, and has menu glitches that make it impossible to interact with the game if you alt tab out and tab back in. Currently, I have not gotten to any of the final paths of the game (It has branching paths beginning with level 6 depending on a choice you make at the end of level 5, similar to the first Final). However, the reason for this has not been because the game is too hard or I'm bad at it or any complaints with the levels themselves. When I reached level 5 the first time, I died to the final boss on it, alt-tabbed out to check a discord message, and when I came back the game wouldn't do anything. I could not hit continue, I could not select a fighter, nothing. Controller and keyboard become completely unresponsive, no matter what button I pushed I just got nothing or an error sound from the game.

So I quit it, and retried. Same thing happened when I alt-tabbed again. The menus are also buggy when looking through the bydo labs and the other gallery sections, not properly responding to directional inputs, leaving your input in a spot it wasn't upon exiting out of a menu, etc.

Just now I played again, got through stage 6.2, and the game crashed for the third time today trying to load stage 7.2.

tl;dr Game is good, but currently I cannot recommend it due to constant bugs and crashes hampering the experience, among other minor nuisances that add up to tedium across the experience.

Even barring all that, as much as I love R-Type, this has less content than R-Type Final on the PS2 and costs $40 plus a $20 season pass for more levels, all while having far less ships than its predecessor. The graphics are phenomenal, but the content is a bit lacking right now, I hope to see more in the future that will change this to a recommended, because more content is still being added, both paid and free. Biggest things that need to be fixed are menu errors, input issues, and the crashes.

tl;dr, again:
If you love R-Type, get it
If you just like schmups, wait for a sale.

Good assymetrical multiplayer horror game. Don't buy dlc and ♥♥♥♥ unless it's on DLC and you *really* want it though, this game's DLC market is atrocious. Tons of several dollar cosmetics, battle pass, tons of paid dlc characters (I understand licensed characters need to be paid, but your own original characters that are tied to in game challenges and achievements are paid? What?). You can unlock the original characters via in game currency called shards. There's also in game currency called auric cells, which are real money. Don't buy those. It's a very good game, just don't take it too seriously. There are some toxic players, just report them and move on. Don't feed the trolls.

Edit: I have nominated this game for Game of the Year

One of the best roguelikes I've ever played. Pretty damn challenging too, I've made it to the final boss 10 times out of 16 runs, and I've only beaten it once. If you don't wanna have that intense of a time though, you can always turn the difficulty down with no penalty by turning on God Mode, which gives you various buffs and removes some of the more punishing roguelike elements. Additionally, between runs you can get materials to unlock permanent upgrades to make future runs easier. And when it starts to feel too easy? You can TURN UP THE HEAT and, in true Supergiant form, add any amount of penalties, extra challenges, and other changes to make the game more interesting/hard for veterans.

At time of writing though I'm baby and have only cleared heat level 1. Someday I'll get up to the level I was at in their other games, with all penalties on.

Fun game, some toxic people in public games though. Recommend you get together with friends to play it. It also does have crossplay with the mobile version for those without PCs or who wanna play with friends who aren't big on gaming in general. (Product received as a gift)

Edit: A patch last year finally fixed the game for my computer. Frankly ridiculous that it took like 3 years to patch for ultrawide monitors but it's finally fixed.

I love the Megaman Zero and ZX games. They're easily some of the best Megaman games period. But this port is currently unplayable. A short list of problems: Closing the game and reopening it crashes instantly. If you ever turn the game off you won't be able relaunch it without deleting your save data. You can't change the resolution either, so if your screen is bigger or smaller than 1080p, you're out of luck. Fullscreen mode just flat out doesn't work, borderless mode stretches the game out weirdly. You also can't rebind keys or buttons.

Will update this review when the game is fixed, because once it's working, I highly recommend every game in this collection.
