It seems like it's a mechanism of nature to be sure that there's always someone who's gonna make it and someone who's gonna really nail it (if proper conditions are given), Dandelions are more likely to make it whatever the conditions but are not able to fully take advantage of the best circumstances, like the Orchids do.
If an Orchid is not lucky with the given circumstances, bad luck.
How cruelly ironic can Nature be.

Hello, I stood upon your profile from the Transgender group, while reading some of the "introduce yourself" posts I had unread.

I found I can relate to many of your sentences from your presentation and here on your profile.

Then I came to the realization that maybe you're (and maybe you're not aware of it) an Orchid Child (not only relates to children, it's called that but it's something that encompasses the whole life of the person) . While the name may be missleading it's not about otherworldly crap. It's an actual term used for a certain variation of some gene (which name I don't remember, sorry) found not long ago thanks to the Dunedin study (if I remember well).

Basically, the Orchid people, under proper circumstances, bloom more brightly than their counterparts (the Dandelion Children), but , under stressful, tough conditions they suffer more and are less able to withstand and overcome the difficulties, specially on their own.

I finally got to watch Shinsekai Yori and just finished it. And wow, I LOVE YOU. Thank you so much. When you described the anime, I wasn't thinking that you were lying, but to be honest, I didn't had too much expectations. - Actually, it turned out to be a masterpiece. And it is definitly thought-provoking. I mean, in my opinion anime like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso are masterpieces aswell, but they aren't really thought-provoking. But anime like Clannad, Plastic Memories and Madoka Magica are thought-provoking. And now I finally got to see another one.
I mean, I'm still not entirely sure what was right and wrong in the end. It was like there was no really right or wrong at all. I guess I'll put that in spoilers now.

Taking the "removing" of children as example. It was in fact justified, why they did so.
Because they were fearing another appearance of a demon. But I anyways always had disrepect against the leaders in the village.

Not to forget the queerats! I could even understand their actions.
The way they handled was indeed repulsive. But when you think about it, didn't the humans do the same?
On a sidenote it is actually quite funny that the queerats/monsterrats are called big rats in my german translation. I only know it, because I just found out that they are actually called like that in the english translations. And well, big rats is WAY less offensive. Queerats or monsterrats shows much disrespect in my opinion, which supports my above point, since the humans call them like that.

I even can relate to the anime. I mean, think about it:
Sorting/filtering children...
Leaders trying to have control of everything the people are doing...
Manipulating...

And the list could go on and on...

In addition to that it was also very emotional, beautiful staged and very well thoguht through.
The characters were also not really flat.

Well, except the characters, which disappeared very early^^.

Oh and normally I don't really like time leaps in any form of stories.
But this 2(well, you could also count the third, but it was only for the last few minutes^^) time leaps were not disturbing at all.

On top of that, the soundtrack was awesome.
The atmosphere created with the scenes together with the soundtracks was really stunning sometimes. There were some parts, where I was really like paralyzed.

Well, I guess I'm running out of characters.
If you have ever another recommendation I would definitly check it out, since you seem to like extraordinary anime. That's atleast what I think, after watching Shinsekai Yori.
And if there is ever anything I can do for you, just tell me. I really owe you one.
