Early Access Review
EDIT: online is now included in the game. Disregard other reviews complaining about this as they need to update their review.

Got into the game after making my character and creating my randomly generated world, and was about to uninstall after seeing the janky run animation, and then out of nowhere, water plunged over a portion of the island and i realized how dynamic the ocean was I decided to give this one a shot.

I've put 22 hours into it. I will warn you right out, this game has one developer, but, they update frequently and are very transparent about whats next, but its slow going and the quality on some things is just not there. (i had to hit esc to get my mouse cursor back quite often when going from inventory back to game) It is VERY much, and i mean VERY much an early access game. Although, one that i'd argue is worth investing in, because it can turn out to be a really novel ocean/island survival crafting game.

Why play it? Well, the story is interesting, the world is interesting, crafting is fun and i was surprised you can pump water through pipes and make fancy pools, farms, waterfalls and even make sensors to turn pumps or valves on or off which is fun for me.

I'll also point out that the thing you haven't seen before is how incredible the water is in this. It actually has waves that hit the beach, it wets the sand, it flows over things. There are crystals that repel it, and even crystal infused wildlife repel it. (depeding on crystal type -- lol there are blue crystals that create water instead of repel and for some reason the trees - some of them - grow this blue crystal at the base of their trunk and i swear i've caught them walking around to get closer to water).

I would say that you should buy this one just to simple experience the water. Refund it afterwards if it doesn't amaze you like it did me.

The combat is very simplistic so far. You swipe a weapon in a cleave, kick to stun, throw bombs, not too many weapons, but there is a bow with two arrow types (tiered damage and explosive), its relaly not worth using though, and the aiming is god awful on it. I did see there is a rework in the roadmap to make the combat more robust.

Sailing is a little simplistic and is not as good as in Windbound or Sea of Thieves, but the amount of boats and customization you can do to them makes up for it. (You can add cannons, ballistas, motors instead of sails, add armor, retrieval hooks for sunken loot, etc) There is even a flying boat which is very cool and exhilarating to use. It was fun blowing up enemy ships and towers and looting them. Traveling from island to island can be a bit of a bore though. I did find myself putting picture in picture star trek up to pass the time when doing big exploration runs. (The cool thing though is the xp system rewards you big time for exploring)

The enemies were great, i fought a huge rock golem, giant spiders, giant crabs, huge titans. Although some enemies were lack-luster (humanoids), but i really do see them as simple placeholders because they're all male, and have random names like James, John, etc, and they spout a random line like "where is my parrot" or "shiver me timbers". The humanoids seem to have dominated the world, and they've got cannon towers setup all over, as well as bases and ocean fortresses. They are fun to destroy and loot as well.

Replay-ability is low at the moment, and i'll not be playing any longer until more content is added, but i'm glad to be a part of this early access because I think the game has potential.

Beat the game in about 18 hours. It was a cozy, epic story, and quite challenging.
I don't expect a lot of players to enjoy it though, as there are many things the game can't quite figure out for itself, and that will frustrate the hell out of most. I am very patient. An example is the climbing system. It will jump up for you if a cliff is at waist level, or even higher than you, but it wont jump for you. This is what I mean by "it needs to make up its mind". Either jump for the player all the time, or don't at all.

Another thing it does awkwardly is the targeting system. Middle mouse click locks on, but no option exists to switch target, so you must middle mouse click to untarget, and then do it again to switch targets. That needs to get better.

Lots of fun weapons and abilities to find and use, so its got that going for it.

The format is like so: You sail around in a fairly large circle map (think valheim but way smaller) and island hop gathering materials and fighting very interesting and well done enemies that challenge you quite a bit, all while lighting three beacons. Then you go fight a boss on another island that you can now open all three bridges to. Once you beat it, you run your ship through a gauntlet, so to speak, and its quite exhilarating. Especially if you really work to upgrade the ship. Then you have completed a chapter. There are six if i remember correctly.

The survival aspect isn't anything novel, but it does cut water out of the equation. So, food is your stamina. Attacking and running, as well as dodging uses stamina. Some items use stamina too. So keep eating to keep your stamina pool up.

The ocean is lovely and dynamic enough to present a nice mechanic on its own. This is what drew me to the game. I've played other games with most of the rest of the mentioned mechanics, but the sailing here is really challenging, and it was fun to master.

All in all, if you can grab it on sale i'd say go for it. Even full price would be fine, because it's about 18 hours of solid gameplay. The story is complete. It's a nicely put together game. Needs some polish on a few things to make gameplay less annoying and more fluid, but other than that, good game.

Why are you reading this review? There is nothing to see here. The author only did one playthrough! They've got no credability as a critic! They can't even spell credability correctly! No, STOP!

Ok if you insist:
If you're looking to scratch your subnautica itch, this is like the humor of portal and borderlands, mixed with subnautica in space. The story is like a b movie and it knows it. This is fun. I honestly didn't ever memorize the materials to craft things like i did in subnautica, so that was a bit of an inventory managment sim but what game isn't. Just buy it already, and keep in mind, the first chapter is SLOW. Most of the game is not at all like the first 20-30 min. That's the grind and you are feeling very much like a fish out of water for sure in it, but push through it and you'll find the game quite enjoyable.

What is this game?
A top down view, WASD move, clicker with 3 abilites per weapon, and there are bows, shields, one handed swords, one handed axes, two handed hammers and runes which modify damage output and playstyles.

The abilities on weapons offer playstyles like healer, support, or pure damage and you dont have to pick either/or, just hit the one you want to cast out of the three.

This is a time management game, and it's session based (similar to playing a game of starcraft where you build up and you have your build orders but when its over, its over and you do it again and again).

The above statement is not a critique, it is a really fun game and its VERY in-depth. Layers and layers of mechanics will be revealed to you as you master the game. Its easy to pickup and really rewards you for mastering it, because you will be SO MUCH BETTER at it than your peers if you do so.

Two modes:
- SAGA (basically 14 days to kill 2 saga bosses, and kill around 5 Jotuns (giants) as they head to your base every 10 min after last one is killed) before it becomes eternal winter. Exit the session through the purple crystal structure (bifrost) to gain your rewards.
- Survival, unlimited days to kill only jotuns and much larger map sizes. So no saga bosses. This mode is for fun with friends in a more lasting way and to test different builds basically because the Jotuns gain health and damage every time they spawn, making possible very difficult health pools to deplete, so you'll need to figure out how to scale out damage into late game.

You get golden horns (a soft currency) for beating saga bosses (5x per kill) and for kill Jotuns(giants) 1x per kill. You spend these horns in game to make legendary gear, to gamble on powerful runes early game. You also spend them on unlocking the ability to craft the powerful armor and weapons (which will be unavailable to you when you first start).

So yes, while it is a session based game, you keep your "progression" through out all your sessions.

There are also several classes you can pick (AND UNLOCK!). It is truly a fun, game.

NO STUPID ASS LOOT BOXES OR PAY TO WIN ♥♥♥♥!!!!!! THESE DEVS GOT THIS ONE RIGHT!

There is no PTR. They break the game every weekly update. Don't bother.

Took me 37 hours to beat the first game. I'm 37 hours into this one and I just now beat all the storyline, and there is STILL more things to do. Its worth buying and its quite enjoyable allready. I will say, be ready to use console commands to replace things that get deleted or go missing. It is rare, but if you don't it could ruin your survival run.
