Most puzzles were simple, a lot of mechanics are introduced
but without much building on them.

Soundtrack is not bad on its own, but started to annoy me by
the end. Too repetitive.

Developers did a great job at world building, various email logs and
personal diaries in areas between puzzles tell a lot of backstory, dialogs
with T.O.M. create a solid build-up to _something_ but... It is not
happening. Ending is completely anti-climatic, you just shot
these sluts while playing as T.O.M.
and then there are credits.

Game visibly borrows a lot from famous Portal series but fails to
match its quality.

Try The Talos Principle instead.

Yet another puzzle game with that blocky style we all know. Got it from a giveaway, wasn't expecting much... Apparently, it turned out to be a good game.

Q.U.B.E. is not about good storyline, there is almost no story in it. Like, one or two weird explanations but you will have no idea what is going on anyways so don't worry about it.

It got decent "middle difficulty" puzzles. Meaning that you will not rush through them as if there was no puzzles at all but you also will not get stuck on a puzzle for a shameful amount of time. Just enough to get your brain cells moving but not enough to get you bored, basically.

TL;DR To summarize... I really enjoyed it despite some bad things I noticed (see below). You should give it a try.

Good in OneShot

- Good soundtrack

I'm even listening to it right now, after finishing the game. This is amazing. I even have a couple of favorite tracks now.

- Non-standard gameplay mechanics

Using your PC's OS itself to extend gameplay... Was, IMO, a good move.

- Good story

I will definitely remember it for a long time.

Bad in OneShot

- No reward for exploration

Map is big but there is nothing we can find. I checked every corner because I really like to find easter eggs (btw, check The Talos Principle game if you into that too) and... found literally nothing.

- Fast travel is not enough

You will find yourself walking around the map for the most time. Btw, fast travel thing only lists location names. Dear Devs, you should consider adding location pictures to it.

- Mac version is incomplete

Currently this game is Windows only. As seen in other reviews, there should be Mac version (Is it still available? I don't see a Mac icon near buy button). But... Most of "meta-puzzles" are broken on it.

- Ending is only affected by one choice

You will need to replay the entire game to see another ending.

However I think that this is intended, you should "understand" consequences of your choice and don't just jump back to see what will happen if you choice other option.

Early Access Review
Let me just list what is bad, because I have no idea what is good in this game:

1. Alpha hell: Developed for 8 years and still core issues are not fixed.
2. Complex mechancs that force you to build ship in certain (usually visually weird) way.
3. As said in another review: The whole thing is balanced for giant ships. So early game is very difficult and boring.
4. A lot of things are incomplete and just left this way.
5. No story, no _any_ content. So just you build ship... And do nothing.
6. Badly designed UI with glitches.
7. JAVA!!!

Developers have giant plans but progress is not moving at all. I suggest you to look at Avorion instead. It is a lot more close to what SM devs want than SM itself.

Early Access Review
What is Avorion?
Typical space-themed sandbox. Explore the galaxy, gather resources, fight bad guys, build stuff.

What is good in Avorion?
- Focus on interaction with galaxy instead of shipbuilding
- Developers are communicating with the community
- No serious bugs (despite me playing on the beta branch)
- Good soundtrack
- At least basic storyline, many space sandbox games simply dump you into the world without any explainations

What is bad in Avorion?
- Faction wars are just like "spawn 8 ships here and let them try to destroy this station for several hours until they are killed by another random group of ships".
- "Civil ships" logic is broken, they can attack you but you can't attack them (without getting a penalty for destroying civil ships, of course).
- I have noticed several visual glitches.
- The balance needs to be tweaked in some places.

Instead of conclusion
Avorion have a lot of potential to become an amazing game.

I'm recommending you to try this game just because of this. However note that Avorion is in "early access", so not everything is 100% ready. As early access note says: buy only if you want to follow development process and participate in it (as a tester).
