I wasn't sure at first but after the first 30 mins or so it started to hook me. I think I'll keep this one installed for a while and play when I've got a few mins at a time to kill. I like that matches are short and sweet and that there are different ways to play with or without friends. Check it out!

Update: they already fixed the one issue I was having (with the render window). That was quick.

Other than some weird jank going on with the rendering window (going fullscreen and then alt + tabbing is doing some weird stuff for me), the game itself is actually pretty good and not just a straight PUBG ripoff. The snowboarding, gliding, and climbing mechanics are quite fun. The way you select your spawn point at the beginning and can see where others are spawning is unique. Character appearance customization is pretty solid, though we'll have to see what quality of cosmetics they add in the future for this to stay a positive point.

Wish it ran at a higher frame rate, but at least performance feels smooth and stable. Turning anti aliasing down increases performance quite a bit. GTX 1080 w/ i7 4770K. Game does feel smoother than PUBG in many ways, even if the max framerate isn't as high. There are less dips and bugs. Interface is clean. I didn't experience any lag or rubberbanding which I would honestly expect on the first day. I like it. TLDR: It feels a bit like PUBG, Steep, and The Division had a baby.

This series of games has been phenomenal. Not only have the games been really good--the PC ports have been exceptional. 5 hours in, I can say this one is looking to be an even better game than the previous two games. The motion capture and lighting are pretty jaw-dropping in some scenes. I've already taken over 100 screenshots with the new photo mode. I'm just having such a good time with this game.

I will update this review with more impressions as I get further along, but for now let me just re-emphasize: what a beautiful & fun game.

Better than it has any right to be. We'll see where this one goes over time, but for now I'm giving it a thumbs up. I like the forge and class systems. Would like to see more character customization options and cosmetics.

Fantastic PC version. It's not a console port--PC version was built from the ground up. It's well-optimized, it's not buggy, there's a demo and benchmark tool available so you can easily see if you like it/if it runs well. Full mod support with Steam Workshop. Plenty of customizeable graphics options. They went all out on this. So much care and attention to detail was put in this game. I played through the whole thing on Xbox One and I'm very excited to play through this definitive release on PC. The story was very powerful to me. The game has its imperfections but there is just so much heart put into it that I don't even care.

Well done, Square Enix. This is how AAA PC games should release.

We finally have a Final Fantasy game on PC with a built in graphics options menu and no dumb launcher! Yay! If you're having trouble with the game running too fast, it's because you've got a high refresh rate monitor and need to disable Vsync in game. Or it's because you hit F2 or F3 which will speed up gameplay (this is intended). Press F1 to fix it, if that doesn't work then keep reading.

Unfortunately, if you're like me, turning off Vsync in game causes the game to crash. So go to the GameSettings.ini file located in your Documents/FINAL FANTASY XII folder and change it Vsync from On to Off. This fixed it for me and the game runs smooth as butter!

Absolutely the best PC port yet for an FF game—obviously it still has a minor issue for some people, but it’s easily fixable and overall this is a huge improvement for Square Enix. So if you're having any trouble caused by your high refresh rate monitor (greater than 60hz), disable Vsync as I've explained. Why does this happen in the first place? Vsync forces the game to render up to your monitor's supported frame rate, and you do not want that enabled for this game!

Obviously, this isn't a review of the game itself yet, but so far great port overall for a Japanese game.

Really awesome experience. The graphics aren't mind-blowing but it still makes you feel like you're present on the Apollo 11 journey. Very educational. Absolutely recommend to anyone fascinated by space.

Revising my review now that the game has been free to play for a while. First off: should you be deterred from the "mixed" reviews on Steam? Not at all, in my opinion. Most competitive games out there with a high skill ceiling get lots of mixed reviews. It can be frustrating to die, and you will die a lot in PUBG initially. You won't always see it coming. Sometimes you'll feel like you miss shots you should've landed. I get that. The shooting takes getting used to in this game. Things aren't arcade-y like CoD and other shooters. Guns are difficult to control and there are multiple ways to aim.

All that said, it is an extremely fun tactical experience that I have found to be far more rewarding than other Battle Royale games. It's a bit slower paced. It's a lot more intense. I wish that some of the movement felt less sluggish, and honestly hit markers wouldn't be a terrible thing. But overall, I really like the feel of this game. When you land a perfect snipe, there's no better thing. When you win a match of PUBG, you feel that you truly earned it. It takes time to become competent. It's a lot more fun with friends that you can play with consistently. As you strive to communicate better, you'll feel that your efforts directly improve your ability to survive with your squad and the game will just get more and more fun.

I also VASTLY prefer the way cosmetics work in this game. I find it far more interesting to create my own character that I can customize with unique accessories and gear, sort of like an MMO. Different helmets, coats, pants, shoes, etc. I dislike how most games do things nowadays: Hero characters you're supposed to care about, with the only unlocks for them being expensive $20 skins that replace the whole look (usually just a re-color). It baffles me why more games don't use the PUBG method. Having items tied directly into Steam is also fun, however I wish more of them were tradeable.

That said, I do have to complain about the weapon skin monetization. Outside of some that you can earn during the battle passes or buy in the shop, the coolest weapon skins can only be obtained via loot boxes with very low odds. Not a fan of that so I just ignore those.

I do recommend the game. It's one of the best games I've ever played and I hope that it has a long life ahead.

I love my Link and use it frequently. Both my PC and the Link are wired in to my router and I have ZERO noticeable latency. It seriously feels like my PC is a super-powered couch console when I use it this way.

I would *not* recommend the Link unless you can at least have your PC wired directly. Wifi works fine if you do that, as long as your router isn't bad or too far away. A 5GHz router will be ideal in this situation. If you are using 2.4 GHz wireless on both ends, it is likely going to be pretty bad.

Look into getting some Powerline Ethernet adapters if you want to be wired in on both ends but don't have a good router or a reasonable way to run cables throughout your house. These send the network signal through the powerlines. Pretty cool! These can give better performance than wifi in certain situations but it really depends on your wiring.
