I bought this game quite some time back at the beginning of my middle school years when it was available on Xbox Live as an Indie Game when... "it cost a dollar". It was a blast of an experience with four guys running across the screen competing for weapon options and additional lives. The experience then was so phenomenal, I found myself grabbing the pseudo-retired Xbox 360 back out of the closet to play it on occasion after I had moved singularly toward PC gaming. This title alone prevented that Xbox 360 Slim from a mediocre death to this day.

Toward the end of my middle school years, I discovered this was again available, as a "Z0MB1ES (on teh ph0ne)" when I had my HTC Radar 4G. I can't give a genuine figure for the number of games I played of this on the bus, and though it was no where near as enjoyable as physical stick from a 360 controller, it was equally fun.

Time passed, and that phone has been sent to the graveyard, and joined by an iPhone 5S, a Lumia 950, and a OnePlus 7 Pro. I don't believe I'd touched this game for several years at this point with college and desire to advance my career in .NET. After one night of a sudden urge to play it, I found this Steam Store page.

AND it's free? I would've paid a dollar for it but, "alright!"

It's still just as wonderful as it was over a decade ago. The audio has rare sync issues with the game but I've had worse audio issues that completely broke gameplay in other titles, so I can't be too harsh on this.

The important thing is that this packs all the right components into a neat little title. I shoot things, they die, burst, shatter, and goo boom. I can still make it to the end by playing the way I did years ago. It's amazing the code that made the other two games is still alive and well on PC. I've definitely tried scratching the itch by watching some videos here and there.

I'm going to end this out with a quick note that this can probably play on any hardware you can reasonably throw at it. Uncapping the FPS on a 960M and a 3090 equally sends the framerate counter to oblivion with some number between 2000 and 3000. Even if you don't find yourself playing the game often, it's cheap in terms of drive storage, so not keeping a copy on your laptop for time between classes or work meetings can only be of detriment to you.

Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely recommend.

It's good. You'll like it. You're already reading the comments for too long just buy the game. Seriously.

First free game that I legitimately feel is worth the money of the DLC (and could possibly revise this later) for what you get. The game is very simple but can guarantee you a good time playing it.

At a minimum, download the game and give it a go. Everyone playing the game is a blast to be around and the developers did just the right things to make a great game.

It has Ambush so it's already better than its supposed successor.

EDIT August 26, 2021: It looks like NWI is adding Ambush.
