Super fun, and good for local co-op with a friend or 3.

It was a... loooong journey. I played an hour or two every few days. It took a while. There is a TON of dialogue, AND slow-speaking characters giving you tons of background info on this and that. You just had to slog through it, however, you can keep your finger close to the ESC button to skip dialogue (and slow walking) if you can read it on the screen faster than they are speaking. That helps. The over-abundant dialogue about history/lore is the worst part of the game, and a few obtuse puzzles, and occasional pixel-hunting (I had to use the guide once just to find that there was a small item I easily overlooked because it wasn't obvious on the screen).
Apart from all that, this game is considered an adventure classic and is definitely worth playing. Sometimes the story is a bit cheesy and cliched, but it is overall a good game with a decent-to-good story.

IMPORTANT: This game had trouble starting on my Windows 7 (64-bit) PC. If I started my PC and tried to start the game, it would never start the first time, giving me a DirectDraw error, which also made my mouse cursor only work on half of my desktop, so I would have to ctrl-alt-del and log out from windows. BUT, when I would log back in to Windows and start the game again, it would work perfectly, every time. So, if you have the same problem, just start the game the first time when you don't have any other important applications running, hit ctrl-alt-del when you get the error, log out, log in and start it again. For whatever reason, that works. I don't know why.

Hmmm.. I would like to recommend it, but I can't. It's beautiful, and educational, and you can tell a lot of heart and soul went into making this game, BUT as a platformer/puzzle game it is clunky as hell. The play control is BAD. It feels as if your character is moving through tar. And switching between the main character and the fox character repeatedly to complete puzzles makes everything go so sloooooow, not to mention having to wait repeatedly for the wind so you can time a jump.
It's also very short. It is only worth getting if you can get it VERY cheap, and only if you are getting it for the art and educational aspects. Do not buy this if you are looking for a good platformer. It is not that.

Very fun casual game. I wish it had more levels and/or a sequel.

I'm a little surprised I ended up not liking this game (being a LucasArts classic), and not being able to recommend it. I never played it when it first came out because the new (at the time) 3D graphics turned me off. I was already spoiled by classics like the first two Monkey Island games, Maniac Mansion and it's sequel, and even Full Throttle. Now I finally got around to playing this, and it is just meh.
The controls are not great, and there are some game mechanics that make the already illogical puzzle solutions even worse. In year two (out of 4) there is one point where an object you need is sitting right in between three other characters, so when your cursor is over it, you would never even notice that it is a separate object (apart from the characters) that you can interact with. Also, There is another puzzle which has an object you can encounter early on in year two, but nothing happens if you mess with it, so you're like "OK this does nothing," but it is actually needed way later at the end of year two. However, you would never think to go back and interact with it again because of your previous experience with it.
In conclusion, there are weird game mechanics, faulty design, an ok (not great) story, and a bug in the laatest version that makes my video card run very hot, and very illogical puzzle solutions (a walkthrough is much needed), that make me not want to recommend this. I'm going to finish it with a walkthrough just to do it, but I'm already not having fun any more. It started out good in year one, but year two is whatevers. I just started year three..

EDIT: I finished it, with a LOT of help from a walkthrough, and the puzzles get even worse. It's frustrating. Solutions you would NEVER think of because you have no reason to ever think of them. If anyone finished this game without a walkthrough it's because they tried every inventory object on every environment object. This shows very poor game design. Also navigating around is wonky as hell. Bad controls, waiting for Manny to walk a virtual mile on-screen constantly just to "look" at an object, etc. I hated this game by the time I finished it.

Can't recommend it becasue of the ending. This is a game I would classify as a "bummer" game. I like games with happy endings that are fun and an escape.

This game has good graphics and music. However it is super short (3 hours), and SUPER easy, and just has a sad bummer of an ending. WTH, man..

Get on sale if you don't mind sad endings and are looking for some feels I guess.

Well... *sigh* I got through the first part of the game, with a walkthrough during the last couple of puzzles, because let's face it, I have other things to do than play this one game for as long as it would take me to try every object (or my sidekick, Spot) on every other object in the game. Not all of the puzzles are random/weird, but enough of them are that it is frustrating and near impossible (unless you have that much time to spend on one game with a mediocre story and unlikeable main character).

I already hit eject on this game, so I'm leaving this review to save you some cash. The character is unlikeable, the story is meh, the voice acting is overdone, but the art is good. That's all that's good. If you like depressing, middle of the road, cliched fantasy, buy it. I can't recommend this game. I feel gross now for playing 7.6 hours of it, and even with a walkthrough to get past the random pzzles, I just don't care enough about the story to see the end or what happens along the way.

Pretty good. Strange. Only had to check online a couple times when I got stuck. It is possible to finish the game without solving every single puzzle, so there is a replayability factor with a walkthrough if you are a completist.

For me, this game and its sequel, LeChuck's Revenge, set the bar for the whole genre forever after. It's not the first point and click game ever, but to me these two games were the first mega-hits that put LucasArts adventure games on the map. I played this game multiple times a year when I was younger, and it's what created my addiction to point and click adventure games.

Updated art is nice to look at, but some of the old art is better, like with the pixel art close-ups of Gov. Marley and other characters. Also, the new controls are clunky, but you can always switch to the original version seamlessly.

tl;dr It's super short, even with all the endings. Don't pay more than $5 for it. Still recommended though!

It's fun but it's sooooo short that you should get it on sale. No more than $5. I played through a bunch of times making different choices and getting some of the alternate endings, then I played through getting the official ending. THEN, I went online to look up all the endings and try all of them. This all took about 5 hours, and I'm done, with no need to ever replay it. But it was fun while it lasted, and really funny, which I wasn't expecting.
