What a phenomenal gem of a game.

It's a very niche game, featuring complex systems (and some flaws) but its a must-buy if you like to design space combat vehicles in-depth. You can create your own nuclear engines, weapon systems, propulsion systems AND more. It really is a one of a kind game.

This aircraft, produced by Magnitude 3 LLC, is a fantastic representation of the MiG-21Bis.
If you could describe the MiG in one sentence, it would be like telling your 102 year old grandfather that he's getting drafted.

The MiG-21 is a challenging, feisty, but fun plane to fly. It has no fly-by-wire; featuring hydraulically-boosted controls. If you pull too hard or push the aircraft past its limits, it will bite back.

The vehicle comes with a selection of many weapon choices allowing you to push this ancient frame to good use.
It has good IR missiles, but the radar missiles are akin to a drunkard. It might track... But as soon as the enemy aircraft turns, you can say au revoir to your missile. They are unable to follow aircraft into any form of a "tight turn" meaning you're restricted to using them against oblivious enemies to give the missiles the best chance of intercepting.

The bomb selection is nice, featuring a variety of standard bombs in different explosive sizes along with other alternatives. However, the pièce de résistance is the nuclear option. You can carry nukes. They are incredibly fun to use, but you cannot use them in multiplayer as they are banned amongst generally all servers (for a VERY VALID reason).

The MiG-21Bis was my 2nd full-fidelity module. I absolutely adore it, as it is a joy to fly. Even when you're going up against aircraft that are considered modern, it is absolutely thrilling being able to down an unsuspecting F-16 or F-18. You will feel so rewarded when downing an aircraft much more capable than your own, as most of the times you will be dying or wishing you were dead when you fly this thing against aircraft capable of firing BVR missiles.

If you want a plane that is challenging but rewarding, this is the plane for you.
The plane is much more basic compared to modern contemporaries so it forces you to think outside the box. It will make you a better pilot and you will thank yourself later for your choice.

P.S If you do want to forget your horrible sortie after dying countless times, feel free to drink the alcohol from the *convenient* alcohol cooled radar.

Early Access Review
After backing the project for around £60 in 2021, I can "happily" say that my money went to anything *BUT* the development of Dead Matter. Same lacklustre, un-optimised game now as it was at launch. I think the project idea unfortunately was too big for the development team to handle and will never see the light of day as a full, completed game. I wasted my money, frankly. Learnt my lesson.

I won't delve into the drama of the release, but I will deliver a review of the game:
The game currently lacks a proper game-play loop. There's no incentive for survival or endgame. It's just grabbing food and water, walking around, messing around, finding guns and exploring. There's nothing else really to do, no reason to build, no reason to properly explore. If you look at Project Zomboid, there is a proper game-play loop where you can develop your character. Build the person up. That incentive gives the player a reason to play and to care. There isn't really anything like that properly implemented in DM where it isn't a buggy mess, so there's just no reason to play other than to mess around.

The game also is heavily unoptimised. I run an RTX 3080 and this game feels as if it requires a quantum computer to run. I get major lag spikes. The lag spikes don't even warrant the graphics, as they are standard (almost sub-par actually).
The mechanics in the game are also unrefined. The GUI and any other display system is alright but driving around can be quite difficult with the weird physics of the vehicle, and the handling isn't up-to-par. Other physical mechanics are also janky.

Overall, the game is an non-cohesive mess of mechanics stapled together. They don't really seem like they work in harmony, with each different system in the game having no clear directive in development. There isn't really anything to do, and the mechanics are just outright jank.

Save your money and I recommend looking into the studio of Dead Matter so you know to keep your money if you ever see another project released by QI interactive as it'll probably be the same non-harmonious slop of game design.

The game has been abandoned for a very long time. It is not worth the price-tag for the small content it brings. Don't bother. It has potential, but it won't be taken any further.
