Dangeous anomalies, mutants and bandits. It's good to be back in the zone.

Good on Arrowhead for kicking Sony in the butt over the whole PSN thing.

Found a wolf eating a deer carcass. Shot it in the face with a flare gun and butchered and ate them both. 10/10

Amazing game with an amazing soundtrack. So well-optimized to be played with a controller, it made me feel like the good old days.

This game is pretty good. It places great emphasis on teamwork and though each of the four classes are pretty diverse, you never get the sensation that you HAVE to play any one specific class in order to succeed. Each level you play is randomly generated ensuring that, while similar in nature, you'll never play the same level twice.

I'm normally against games whose only selling point seem to be retro gaming, but this game? This game gets it.

There's no flashy, thoughtful intro or deep story to it. Just the tale of one man who with only his HMG and his boom box at his side faces down a ship filled to the brim with alien horrors. Serveral times I've just found myself getting lost in the rythmic roar of the gun, watching the expressions on his face change as he pours an endless torrent of hot lead into the hordes of enemies coming at him. Then, deciding that enough is enough and you're getting overwhelmed, you switch to explosive rounds and just plain annihilate everything in front of you.

10/10 will play again.

This game is quite hard and unforgiving, but once you get the hang of it it's actually quite intuitive in how it works. If you feel like trying it out I've got some tips, some of which I read on different pages and a few I figured out myself.
  • Combat in Exanima is hard, but can be made a lot more managable by using the Practice function which can be found under the Arena in the main menu.
  • When your health bar becomes red, it means you've sustained lethal damage and it basically caps your max HP and won't heal on its own. To heal that you need to find jars of glowing blue goo of which there's only a handful of in the game, so try to avoid getting hit as much as possible and/or wear as many layers of armor as you can.
  • If you click on an item you can use, like a weapon or piece of armor, you'll get a window which shows its stats. This window will close once the mouse pointer leaves it, but if you click the window one time extra it'll stay up until you close it which can be handy if you need to compare two items.
  • Instead of buying skills with exp like you do most games, you choose a skill to train with exp which then become available once it's been filled. The game does not auto-assign skills to be trained either, so you can get quite stunted if you miss this.

Have fun!

This game started out really cool with gameplay strongly reminiscent of Assassin's Creed, but after a certain point it just got so incredibly repetitive. You just do the same thing over and over and over, combined with a bland storyline made me uninstall it before I had even finished it.
