Its like Turbo overkills little brother. Its a different take to the boomer shooter/ movement shooter hybrid, but frankly it falls a little short of its contemporaries. Its not bad by any means, and its still competent and fun, but I would suggest trying out turbo overkill or the doom reboots first. My only real criticism is the checkpoint system everything else is decent to great.

As someone playing the series for the first time, I'd say its an easy recommend. Even full price you'll most likely come out at 50 cents / hour, but at 5.99 its an absolute no brainer. My only real gripe is that the weapon variety is unacceptably poor for ME1 and especially ME2, but this can be fixed with mods. For ME1 i would recommend "Advanced Weapon Models" and for ME2 "Modern Weapon Pack".

I don't know if overwatch, tf2 and its clones are just really neglected and poorly managed or if Rivals is just very well made and managed, but its crazy to me a game could release in such a good state with so much content already well balanced and polished.

I genuinely thought this would be another concord, but they seem to have taken all that made overwatch great and added a bunch of new features like destruction and team ups around it with a whole new roster of mostly familiar characters. As the late great Todd Howard said, it just works.

A lot of classic games are classic games for a reason, but they become "obsolete" as newer games take those older once-groundbreaking ideas and integrate or improve on them. This isn't the case for half life 2 because no one has been able to improve or even replicate it. Half Life 2 was incredible when it came out and it is incredible now. To this day there is not really anything like it out there.

9.5/10 buy even at full price.

I'm genuinely surprised at how this game came out. Not only is it not console-ified or dumbed down to appeal to a more modern audience, but it may actually be MORE unforgiving and hardcore than the 2000s games. They even went the extra mile and added a bunch of jank to make it more authentic to the originals 10/10.

Its pretty neat. Don't expect Battlefield 1 style guns though. You get a bolt action rifle, a bayonet and an order to advance.

It just excels in every way. The graphics and atmosphere are top tier, the gunplay and customization is fantastic and the story will make you wince laugh smile and cry. This is a great example of how a semi-open world can be a much better experience than a "true" open world in keeping immersion and story pacing while also allowing for exploration as opposed to padded ubisoft-ified fetch quests that add very little to the experience besides adding filler for game time. 9.5/10 recommend even at full price, but you'd be dumb not to just grab it while it is 2.99


Just one thing I think needs clarifying is that its a story rpg not a true rpg. While there are real choices with real consequences, you still play as Artyom like Geralt in Witcher 3 not a blank slate fill in like in Skyrim for example. Personally, I prefer it that way, but some may not.

I've seen a lot of games called darksouls but with guns, but this is the first time its both true and well executed.

The gunplay is absolutely excellent and the art direction is also fairly strong. The story is...fine. Its like a CW show or a netflix original. Take from that what you will. The optimization is not great and I would not recommend playing with anything less than a 4070 with DLSS and frame gen on.

Its also worth noting the prologue/intro is just awful. It looks bad, runs worse and is just generally cringe and poorly put together, but you can blast through it in 20 minutes if you try. The rest of the game is not like that and frankly im not sure why its even included as it adds almost nothing besides leaving a poor first impression. 7.5/10 buy on sale.
