For my final verdict, skip straight to the end. If you want some explanation about the systems and what I think of them, read on!

About 1.5 years ago, I would have recommended this game to all of my friends. While a lot complained about the mist system, it actually wasn't a bad thing. It helped limit people from becoming too addicted to the game unless they wanted to completely sink their time and not make very many crowns/energy in the process.

1 year ago they removed the cost to go down the elevators, completely freeing people from that "detrimental" mist system, but in its place came a much worse one: the forge. While the forge could have been good and not a huge detriment, the developers eventually started reducing the drop rate of fire crystals, especially Radiant Fire Crystals, which are needed to heat your end game gear. It now takes forever to get enough crystals to fully level a piece of gear up to 5*.

As for the spark of life system, I'm neutral on it. The drop rate of sparks is actually quite tolerable if you aren't dying twice every floor. They even gave players a free revive (up to 30 health) per floor. That's quite the generous system, in my opinion.

The orbs of alchemy crafting system is a double edge sword. While the removal of mist means buying orbs costs an extra 100 energy for 3*, 4*, and 5* (effectively) over the old system, those who are patient enough can earn their way to craft items 100% free. I was able to do this for a few 5* items on my alternate account, which I played from the ground up after the new systems were in place until mid 2014.

The game is nice to play IF you have a guild of helpful people and friends that are willing to run with you day in and day out. Also do not grind in the same places all of the time. It will destroy your interest in the game. Do danger missions, explore the arcade, make challenges for yourself, etc. Try to craft weapons you wouldn't think of normally using, just for fun!

While the systems in place might hinder fun slightly, it has always been ultimately up to the player to find how they can make the given game fun. Find what you like and do it enough so that it always stays enjoyable, but doesn't become a grind.

I give this game a thumbs up, barely. Try this game long enough to get through to the 3* areas before you decide if you love or hate it. Don't expect this game to wow you in the first hour. That won't happen. It's a community driven game now, mostly.
