As someone who considers himself a moderate purist when it comes to DOOM, once I saw this game being announced I didn't have any hopes - I've always seen the franchise as a 90s product made by incredibly talented and passionate teenagers. I mean, Duke Nukem Forever left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm glad I was wrong. The game's really good and yeah there were some things that I didn't like such as predictable level encounters (open area to open area), some questionable enemy models (specially the lost soul, yikes) and the small yet unskippable cutscenes that become old and annoying after subsequent playthroughs; but reality is I can't help but appreciate the amount of effort poured into this game. These issues might be a thing, but the game's really a lot of fun - loved the campaign, loved the multiplayer (some balancing issues here and there), even the snapmap albeit I feel like it's pretty rough in the edges (regardless, it does its job). They've managed to pull it off, reviving an old franchise without alienating everyone throughout the process.

If you're a purist, I recommend you adjusting your expectations. The impact of the original DOOM was so big that games within the same genre were called 'Doom Clones' for a while, so big that there's still an active community modding the game for 27 years - these are really big achievements. DOOM (2016) might be far from these remarkable feats, but there's no point into reinventing the wheel all the time.

A love letter to the late '90s/early '00s internet - bizarre websites, wacky programs, fancy mouse cursors... everything's here with such a charm that'll definitely awaken your inner child. And it's not just Cyberspace itself, you also get to customise your desktop with all types of weird stuff you download around. Hell, piracy is even a thing! Not that you should do that considering you're an enforcer.

As a "Hypnospace Enforcer" your job is to police and report outlaws - sounds easy but turns out these lawbreakers can be extremely smart by having hidden pages and quite difficult puzzles. Honestly I can't really blame anyone using a walkthrough because these can be rough, however I'd say part of the game is being lost inside this world full of life in which you get to stalk and learn about people who don't exist.

Playing Hypnospace Outlaw feels like going through a portal to another dimension, an alternative reality in which Neuromancer's definition of cyberspace acquires a nostalgic shape. I lack words to describe this game, other than strongly recommending you to play it.

They're not lying when they say short, experimental game - imagine Home Alone but by fending off burglars you're actually murdering them as a vacuum cleaner. It'll keep you entertained for a bit.

Slipstream is like looking at the arcade-style racing games with nostalgic glasses.

The drifting and slipstreaming mechanics are also really good additions - legend says those who pay enough attention can hear and witness Takumi delivering tofu at a blistering pace while listening to the immersive and original soundtrack composed by Effoharkay. But I'm not one to make rumours, so I'll leave that for you to find out.

A cozy and short platformer.

Refunct features vibrant and minimalistic visuals that blend pretty well with the gameplay. Unless you're into speedrunning, there's not much of a replay value but I'll still argue it's worth your money.

If you're an achievement hunter: Last achievement is locked by a DLC. If you're not... well it's a pretty basic platformer.

In a nutshell, Pac-Man with some welcome extras. Also neat visuals.

Short but pivotal towards a full understanding of the Portal universe.

Not that it's a bad game, far from it (innovative even) but Portal 2 does everything bigger and better. Still, by playing the original you'll get to appreciate more the sequel - you won't be disappointed.

I've had multiple people from my friends list messaging me asking what the hell was I playing. The name might suggest confusion, but nope - this game isn't really about ponies - it's about being stuck inside a game of ponies.. by the devil himself.

Play it.

Sadly, can't recommend.

Metal Slug has a special place in my heart because it's one of those games I've played a lot as a kid - but this port is a disaster. I do understand that the arcade version has its slowdowns, but I'm pretty sure the framerate issues aren't part of the port; not only the game runs worse than on original hardware, as it's sometimes even unplayable (specially when playing with a friend). I won't dwell on input/sound lag as I'm almost certain those are related to this issue.

I doubt they'll ever bother fixing this, but in case they do - consider this review invalid.
