Imagine Factorio, but:

without the slow start
with ton of quality of life stuff
it focuses more on the action aspects,
and you can build same units as the NPC enemies do.

...and you get Mindustry.
Which, I dare say, gave me more action and fun than Factorio did, at only one fifth of the price. A complete steal, and it's still getting amazing updates even now.

Every now and then, among the many, many games from the main industry bigwigs, the creative, innovative, and daring games from indie developers, among the lesser known gems, I stumble upon something that catches my eye, and when I decide to check it out, I find something that might not be as polished as the other games, might not gain too much traction either, and yet has its own charm to make me go: "Yeah, looks fun!"

This right here is one of those games. A diamond in the rough.
Beneath the rough graphics lies a short, yet quite fun puzzle game with 80 levels, some of which prove to be quite challenging once you get far enough. It's been a nice experience for me, and I'm glad I got to play it. It's the fruit of true, honest work, and I like it for what it is~

I did not expect to have so much fun dying over and over and over to try and beat my personal best time just to see if I could grapple, swing and dash around the level juuust a bit faster.

But I did, at time of review I've gone through half of the default levels and I'm having an absolute blast. A very nice treat after playing through other platformers before. This game has crisp movement, runs incredibly smooth, and the flow is just top notch. Yes, frustrating at times, but landing a good time feels so incredibly good. Definitely recommended for platforming and speedrunning enthusiasts.

It's got an editor too so you certainly won't go hungry on levels~

A game about climbing a mountain. And what a mountain it was..

If you enjoy platformers, great music, overcoming obstacles with effort and practice, this game might be right up your alley. It's accessible and doesn't judge you, with its simple controls and easy to understand mechanics; even if precision platformers scare you, the fact that you don't lose much progress if you die and respawn immediately takes away the frustration for the most part, so you can keep climbing, trying, and doing your best, progressing through the levels at your own pace and learning all the while.

Celeste therefore offers hours of content, depending on how far you push yourself. Did you climb the mountain? Well done, have you collected all the strawberries? Wonderful! How about the more challenging B-side and C-side levels? Have you gotten to the very heart of the mountain too? How about a last little tour to say Farewell?

And once you've done all that, maybe you'll tell yourself.. I wish there was more. Well, lucky you, the modding community has you covered, and you'll quickly realize that finishing Farewell was only the beginning, even as far as difficulty is concerned.

After all, it's a game about climbing a mountain. Your mountain.
It might be a game, but it means a lot to me for multiple reasons.
Give it a try, it might just change your life.

Ah, the classic tale of a guy with a lightsaber and a few questions and a game that many revered for its great lightsaber combat.

It definitely shows its age, but it's a great game nonetheless. The main game starts of as an FPS with Star Wars flavor, with you running in corridors, gunning Stormtroopers, and trying to figure out where the hell you're supposed to go next. The golden era of absolutely no handholding. It is only later that you get your lightsaber and you're able to slice through your foes and push them off ledges. It is then that the game really picks up pace and becomes really fun. The story is good, the music that plays in the background is, well, good old Star Wars, and the gameplay sort of makes you wish you had your own lightsaber at home.

It has its cons though. The level design is, for the most part, pretty alright, but you can definitely get lost. Some levels are an absolute pain to get through, like the streets of Nar Shaddaa - these grenade Grans and sniper Rodians are the death of me. Sometimes, you might also have to backtrack if you missed something. If it gets too frustrating for you, just whip out a walkthrough and help yourself.

Either way though, it feels good to be a badass with a lightsaber, and this game shows you exactly how good it feels. May the Force be with you, and for good measure, a blaster too.

You find yourself in a room with a bomb. The clock is ticking.
There's buttons, wires, some knob and some LED lights and some other thingamabobs.
You scratch your head, clueless. If only you knew how to defuse it, right?

That's where the second player comes in. One stares at the bomb, the other one stares at the manual. You can defuse the bomb, but don't know the instructions, while the other person has all the information needed, yet can't see the bomb. Together, you can defuse the bomb, but only if you communicate! Remember, the clock is still ticking, so efficient communication and focus is required!

It's a great party game, if a bit intense at times, and it'll truly test if you're able to be quick, precise, and able to communicate things without the fluff. The main game offers quite a few missions that get gradually harder and more challenging, introducing more complicated modules as you progress. You'll have ample time at first, but don't expect to relax in the later missions. Time is a luxury and those bombs aren't gonna defuse themselves! You can play locally or online, through voice chat for example. Play with friends, family, or a complete stranger, it does not matter! You can also play alone but that sort of defeats the whole idea behind the game. It's up to you though!

Best of all, the game has an active community and the modders have been prolific in creating more modules. The base game has 14 modules in total, which is enough to entertain for quite a while. The total count of modded modules, however, has reached a mindblowing 500 by now. Mods vary in quality, of course - some of them fit in the game, some of the look out of place - but there's something for everyone, so you're pretty much guaranteed to find some mods that you'll enjoy.

I definitely recommend this game if you don't mind talking being a vital part of the game. Exploding repeatedly due to the expert's inability to decypher morse code has never been so much fun!

Why buy this game?

Because rabbit obtains hammer and dodges bullets and goes on a pretty damn good adventure. Buy it or the rabbit will whack you.

Early Access Review
As of writing this review, the game was still unfinished. I will most likely be revisiting this review once it's complete to reflect on changes etc.

For being in an alpha, it's already got quite a lot of content and replay value. With the first three areas and two about to come, with most likely a lot more classes and more items and other features, the freedom just keeps increasing in its level of actual freedom. Does that make sense? I hope it does.

Either way, it does exactly what it is advertised as, it's a rogue-lite that allows you to complete your quests in multiple ways. If stealth is your forte, you can do that. If you want to blast in guns blazing, you can do that. If you don't want to get hurt, tell some blokes to do the killing for you.

A bothersome person attacking you? Run away, or kill it with a knife, or kill it by shooting it, or make him slip on multiple banana peels, or toss rocks at him, or make something around him explode, or make him anger some random passer-by or a cop, or shrink him, or freeze him, or just do whatever you feel like doing to him!

Because on the Streets of Rogue, anything goes.

You know, I've been waiting for a game like this to appear. I love space, spaceships, and I love games where there's something that lets my creativity run wild. Glad I found this gem!

This is a game where you control a single ship of faction you choose at the beginning of the game. You can customize it however you want it with the pieces the faction provides. Each faction is unique in a way and none are the same. You fly around, you shoot enemies, gather resources, unlock new modules, grow in power, build up your ship to become an unstoppable destroyer, unlock other factions to play as, and so on.

Of course you don't need to fly alone, you can build up your fleet, or hire pilots from your faction to join you and fly with it. You'll soon be able to conquer the entire galaxy. Also, the galaxy has a fair amount of 'agents', which are fleets that were made by other players. Most of the ones I've seen so far were pretty formidable so if you see a red arrow, you should run until you really feel confident you'll break their ships with ease. Oh, and if you're done playing in that one galaxy you started in? Use a wormhole to fly to another one! This will also upload your current fleet, and chances are, someone, somewhere, on planet Earth, will be soon encountering your very own fleet on their computer. And he'll probably have trouble destroying you.

What's truly beatiful about this game is how simple it looks, and how complex it actually is. You could actually consider this game some sort of art. You start in a tiny sector, and you can see pretty early on how dynamic the world is. The AI harvests the minerals, grows in size, expands, it gets better with you, and so on. For example, I once built a single ship that could build stations. I manufactured it from my flagship, kicked it from the fleet so it could be independent, and guess what. Soon enough, when I came back, there were like, 15 stations there, and a whole lot of tiny little fighter ships scuttling around. It was an awesome sight. To be honest, the game kinda looks more organic than scientific. It's like actual organisms battling against each other. Sort of.

Well, either way, if you like space, spaceships, and space battles, if you like being creative, if you like shooting stuff up, if you like seeing your ship grow from a super fast tickling drone to a slow, massive hulking beast of absolute annihilation, if you like sending your enemies to oblivion, then chances are you're going to appreciate this game. It's got a fair amount of replayability, and even though it looks simple, it's really lots of fun.

Despite it's gravely horrible netcode that causes bad things to happen, it's somewhat stable online and is great overall. It has tons of unlockables and isn't money heavy, so when you're feeling like saving some princesses and beating up hundreds of fools that stand in your way, this is the game for you. It's especially fun when you're playing online with friends!
