setting: surreal apocalypse in space
three key qualities: addictive gameloop, great soundtrack, made with love

at first i thought: oh, seems fun, i have to try it.
then i thought: oh, progression feels nice, and story is intriguing.. i have to beat it to see the ending.
then: oh, i'm good enough to get 40 more achievements, i have to play it a bit longer.
and then: oh, these last 14 achievements make sense, i have to try these strategies i did not think of before.

i've hundred-percented Picayune Dreams now and cannot recommend it enough. while i'm not a big fan of the bullet heaven genre, i really enjoy games that gracefully ignore usual rules. Picayune Dreams makes you wonder, it brings you surprises, it wants you to avoid spoilers and guides. it does not explain every speck of dust to you. it does not try to please everyone. and wow, it costs a fiver. buy it.

Alright, I am bad at shooters. Like really bad, you gotta believe me. And this one.. well, it's insanely fast and damn unfriendly to "i-am-bad-at-shooters"-people like me. I died at least a hundred times in the first hour. Some of my runs were over in EIGHT SECONDS. Still, I managed to make some progress, and I knew I could do better, so I restarted the game again and again.
Yes, it took me 14 hours to beat the game that technically can be beaten in 5 minutes. But oh boy how I enjoyed those hours. Trippy psychedelic visuals, cleverly generated levels, well thought out upgrades, very polished and highly addictive gameplay loop. Awesome game.
For those who are as bad at shooters as I am: try shotgun + explosive ammo + big idol.
