Wow, everything they said was true! Played less than an hour after buying on the holiday 2014 sale, and already addicted. Can't wait to buy my own truck! Sure, the graphics even on max are little rough, but it's super accessible and easy to get into, so if you're worried about steep learning curves fear no more. From the settings/tutorial it seems you CAN customize it to be a very demanding sim, but it's not required.

Just doing jobs, cruising around, following the rules of the road, listening to live music from all over Europe...amazing, really excellent experience.

More addictive than heroin and perfectly legal. Don't care that it's very similar to Civ V, only in space - wasn't that the point? If you enjoyed Civ V, get this, it's actually a lot better with some subtle nuances and lots of new technologies to discover. Prepare to rescind all other priorities. Does have some game breaking glitches - mine started crashing recently with orbital units. Overall a solid 8/10.

Bought this as wanted to support the guys that made Bulletstorm and GoW Judgement, both excellent experiences. This one...not so much. Total disappointment. It combines the worst aspects of a walking sim with a terrible save system. Hey Astronauts, there's no point to a Dark Souls/Destiny-like save system in a WALKING SIM. All you're forcing people to do is walk the same paths again and again. There's no reward, no real interaction.

Your character just walks around clicking at stuff and listening to the odd voice/plot expo. The map is indeed huge, but it's also quite empty and just leads to frustration. And again, the save system is broken. When it says "saving scene", if you quit and restart, you will not be where it was supposed to save.

Yes, the visuals are quite nice, but there's very regular stutter on my PC, which is running this on high with 2XMSAA. Most of the time framerate is smooth, but it'll stutter regularly when loading new areas in the background i suppose.

In short, a big big letdown. Part of the risk of supporting the industry, but still a shame. 4/10

Got this two years ago for 360 when it came out and loved it. On PC, the graphics are of course slightly better, the mood, the story and the feel are all intact and superb - this is an excellent companion to Last of Us if you're playing that on PS3/PS4. However, the PC version suffers from really clunky controls that needless to say make a platformer quite a nightmare to play, with constant trial and error not due to skill, but luck - use/activate doesn't come up in time so you're dead, jumps don't register, you're dead, aiming is really bad - so you're dead. This is especially obvious with the Xbox One controller. I would recommend getting this on console rather than PC.

Was very cynical of this like many with the whole walking simulator thing, but thanks to the summer 2014 sale finally got it. On multiple levels. I mean, i got it. Everything said of Gone Home is true. If you're not from the era that the devs are aiming for, it won't touch you. But if you came of age in the 1990's then you're going to love this. It's purely emotional and nostalgic, and sure it's quite stereotypically Pacific Northwest and what would not be called emo - but back then there was no emo, really. There was shoegazing, there were VHS tapes, and there was Space Above and Beyond on TV - even though the devs got the dates wrong hahaha.

I cried, no shame in admitting that i think. The mechanics of the game work great, the mood is great, but most of all it's a spectacular period piece. From the second i heard the first notes of the title music (which also plays in-game ALL the time, admittedly), i loved Gone Home.

Kinda feel bad for being a doubter, though the criticism stands: this is a 100% committed period piece. If it was set in the 1970's I would not feel as strongly about it, but it takes place in the era when I became the person I am now, and brings back many vivid memories, good and bad. It's also the polar opposite of stuff like Dark Souls, which I also love. Gone Home is about immersion through relaxation, not challenge. In short, being born between i'd say 1968 and 1980 required ahead, and then quite something!
