Any reviews about keyboard remapping and diagonals are outdated. These have been added to the game, and I can happily recommend this game to keyboard players.

if you like momentum based platformers and really weird games, i am BEGGING you to play this. i'm sure this game isn't for everyone, but it's absolutely for people like me. penny is one of the most satisfying characters i've ever controlled in a video game. there's a few rough edges here and there (primarily, the collision can be buggy at times) but it's just such a fun, one-of-a-kind experience that i'm willing to overlook pretty much all of it. i love this game so much

PLUEY??????????

actual review:
this game's just as fun and addicting as the arcade games that inspired it, i've played it for hours on both switch and steam, and i still want to play more! it's the kind of game that's impossible to get tired of, and you only stop playing once you absolutely have to!

This game was originally released in 1999, and coming from a relatively new player, it absolutely holds up to this day. There's still plenty of people playing online, it still looks and sounds great, it's still fun to control, there's still plenty of ways to play, it's endlessly funny...
There is just so much that this game does right, and once you've gotten into it, it becomes incredibly obvious why people never stopped playing. Buy a few copies for yourself and a handful of friends and you've basically guaranteed yourself a lifetime's worth of fun.

Compared to the entries that came before it, Banana Blitz's level designs are unimaginative, its controls are imprecise and annoying to use, and its mechanics are full of questionable decisions and don't work together in any satisfying way. It was a lackluster game back then on the Wii, and it still is now- a new coat of paint can't change that. If you want a true Super Monkey Ball experience, get Banana Mania instead. It's a remake of Super Monkey Ball 1, 2, and Deluxe, which are all amazingly fun even to this day and undeniably the most beloved games in the entire series. It will definitely be a much better investment of your time and money than this game.

I love Rivals of Aether! My favorite part is how I keep dying and losing because I'm not good at it. I also like Clairen because she's like if Lucina were a furry and if Lucina were a Marth, also because in the dating simulator, looking at her makes me feel good in a way that makes me feel bad.

Jokes aside, this is a really good game. The game's mechanics are very satisfying to get the hang of, it's less about physically being able to use them (since they're pretty easy to pull off) and more about knowing when's the right time to use your skills in a fight. The characters are all a lot of fun and are very unique, compared to both each other and the Smash Bros. characters they took inspiration from. The stages have straightforward designs that work for competitive play, but you can also play their "Aether" counterparts, which are more like the fun, illegal stages you'd find in Smash. There's just a lot of fun to be had here.

While I do want to stress that the base game is still great on its own merit, the workshop is also worth noting. People are able to make characters, "buddies", and stages for others to download. These range from carefully-made original characters with intricate mechanics like the Rivals cast, to flashy, overpowered and exaggerated meme characters. Both ends of the spectrum and everything in between can be a lot of fun when you want to goof around or take a break from the base game.

Overall, if you liked the competitive aspects of Smash Bros., you're going to have a lot of fun with this game, too! I highly recommend it.
