Two words, flow state.
I'm convinced they just had this written on the whiteboard or something. But this game absolutely slaps for getting into a rhythm. Personally I loved the story, I never played any FEAR so I didn't have much stake in how it was 'supposed' to be or what not. I saw cool guys in quad nods an it was on sale, simple as that. If you've played any Titanfall the movement in the game might be a bit easier to get a grasp of. My first playthrough I finished it on very hard, which was nice. Since then I went back and 100% the game and it was a hell of a challenge but I loved it.
$30 is pretty steep for what you get if you're skeptical so keep it on your radar as a game to grab while it's on sale instead (about $12.)

Early Access Review
At the time of review I've played the game a bunch over 2 weeks, but I've had it in my library for months. Back in Jan-Feb it was very rough performance wise, but after coming back, seeing some of the optimization updates and fixes that have happened, it feels like night and day, very nice. However please do not buy this game thinking it's going to be your next CS2 or CSGO that you will put thousands of hours in, not in terms of difference in gameplay (that too a tiny bit) but more so in difference of content, which this game is lacking very much at the moment. There is no loadout system (yet at the time of review) optimization could be improved upon (and is being worked on at the moment afaik.) Various UI bugs or bugs in gameplay which can definitely take away from the cool factor. The zombies mode can be fun, though there isn't much of a point to it other than getting to X point and X amount of kills, as there is no end game or getting out so it just turns into a World at War Nacht Der Untoten scenario; where you just kind of see how far you and your party can get, which for the state its in now is pretty chill I enjoy it very much. The update cycle for the game is about average 3 months since the last update, and another one on the horizon very shortly. I would recommend joining the Bodycam discord if you really want to stay connected with it, though I'd recommend looking instead of talking to anyone (but thats a personal thing.) The community in this game is a bit of a mixed bag like any game but more skewed toward the younger more abrasive side of things. The couple people that I did meet an talk to were in zombies and they were pretty chill, so shout out to Hanser. I'm not going to tell you if you should pick it up or not, that's up to you. But from what I've seen, I like it, and played, I like it, and will keep playing it. The recommendation might change to a yes after the loadout update drops.

tldr; DO NOT BUY if you want to play a game, buy it if you WANT TO IMPROVE IT and actually participate in reporting bugs so that the game can actually get better and come OUT of Early Access. Steam EA is not a shield for games to hide behind no, however this game so far seems to be wearing it's EA badge genuinely.

Not recommended if they're going to alter the game so extremely.
Why the big cash grab ya'll?

Not updated for the EA App at all, asks me for an activation key which it didn't provide every time I tried opening the game.
Don't buy this until its fixed unfortunately.

Edit: They seemed to have fixed the issue with the game requiring origin, or asking for an activation key on start up every time. I was able to open it and complete the campaign, and even join a couple multiplayer games off of battlelog.

In this review of Verdun I will be covering 5 catagories of gameplay (Which includes game community)

*** Preformance ***
Although the graphics aren't that of the new Battlefield 1 coming out, Verdun is a beautiful looking game for its content and context. If there is one annoyance I have it is the optimization of the game, I run a GTX 750Ti and I can run everything at high and some ultra, and I get about 40-45 FPS when I play, but I have read where some people with higher grade cards experiance lower or even wors frames, but for me it was fine with some drops in FPS the lowest I have had being was 20 FPS but that was at the beginning of a map when everything renders. One other annoyance that ties into community and preformance, some players turn landscape and foliage quality off or too low to get an edge on players, where as if you were hiding in bushes on your screen, on another players with no foliage you would be laying in open ground. Over all preformance out of 10 would be a 7.5, due to the time it has been out and has been repatched time and time again.

*** Gameplay ***
The key factor Blackmill was going for in this game was realism and authentisity, and I think they hit that mark to a certain degree, which it is real and fun for both sides fighting. The guns are authentic and so are the squads and languages spoken. I understand if they really wanted to make it realistic by taking out UI and making friendly fire a thing but Blackmill I am assuming wanted to make new players feel welcome without being too harsh in gameplay. Over all score would be a 9 out of 10, the gameplay is spot on with the weaponry mechanics and realism.

*** Mechanics ***
The mechanics and such for Verdun are average for me. Running is a little clunky and the default keys to crouch and sprint with are assigned in a very weird place, so I rebound crouch to CTR and sprint to SHIFT. However aside from movement mechanics, the bullet mechanics are well made for a 32 player trenchwarfare FPS, there is bullet drop at long range and if you want a kill while the enemy is rushing toward you at an angle you gotta know how to lead your shots. Over all I give mechanics a clunky but not too shabby 7 out of 10.

*** Realism *** (In a sense of immersion)
Verdun is spectacular at immersifying me into the trenches of World War I. Sometimes when the artillery is soaring over head i'll take a second to look up, as I hear the yelling of other soldiers in the trench next to me, and there is a certain type of peace as well, looking at the whistiling wizz-bangs overhead. But me gawking usually ends with a German putting a Luger round throught the back of my head, pulling me back to reality, "Oh, I died. Damn."
A solid 9/10

*** Community ***
The Verdun community is very welcoming with most people, even to noobs at the game, dont be afraid to ask questions in all chat, usually a few people will tell you the answer to put your gas mask on. But the unfortunate part about Verdun is the size of the community, its fairly small for such an awesome game, but I am seeing more people playing because of the recent announcement of Battlefield 1, which is good and possibly bad for Blackmill, but Verdun will always hold a place as one of my most favorite games ever. I am veering off track but, the Verdun community is spectacular, if you see Kaiser Wilhelm in game, he's cool as well nice guy. Rating for community 10/10
