Not bad, not exceptionally good though either. The matchmaking system is rather poor in design if just looking for a quick match, and forces you to pick a map and difficulty before matching up with others, when really you just want to "go at it". Often, it is difficult to match up with real players and instead and given two AI players instead (not so great, but not the worst AI team mates either).

The weapons, meh. Fun, but the mechanics are basically the same for all of them. Aim and shoot. I was just dying for that one weapon that ruled them all, but it's not there. Nothing I can charge up, nothing with a massive advantage and nothing that I can customize more heavily than a few attachments here and there.

To me, max-level Technician, play all of the maps, maybe a Horde mode here and there, enjoy. The rest will unfortunately be rather predictable and repetitive in time. Doesn't mean it doesn't have replayability - it's just that you'll get rather tired of that even on increased difficulties rather quickly.

Absolutely beautiful work put into this game and an amazing addition to the DOOM series overall. It has been quite some time since a truly modern design has been incorporated into the series. I do wish the multi-player aspect had caught on more with the public - it's basically unplayable due to lack of players in ANY of the lobbies. You simply can't play a multiplayer game if there aren't any other players! That is a shame too because I rather like the feel of the in-game mechanics. I mean it's not Quake III nechanics, but what is anymore honestly?

Story-mode is quite short overall. Still, this game is worth every penny in my opinion. You simply have to play it as no typed review will truly do it justice!

A little late for this review, but it has been on my to-do list!

Being a massive fan of the movie series ever since I was a kid, I had high hopes for this game. It is poised to fill the gap between the "Alien" and "Aliens" movie releases. I won't go into a scene-by-scene walk-through for the entire game, nor any spoilers, but I think it adequately fulfills what it set out to do through theatrics. What it didn't do though, is provide long-term "enjoyable" gameplay. When I say gameplay I mean things like "how predictable is this going to be" and "how many repetitive actions do I have to perform as the player in order to do something simple". Suspense = good. Pushing a few buttons and then clicking a bunch to pull a lever = bleh. That doesn't make me feel like I am really there.

By the middle (or what I thought should have been the midpoint) of the game I really wanted some closure. I just wanted to see the ending credits! A lot of FedExing random items around maps and avoiding an oddly scripted Alien (that is invulnerable by the way) for 20 hours can get a little taxing. I depleted my entire arsenal multiple times just trying to scratch the alien. Nope - still shiny!

Overall, I'd recommend this game to anyone with the warning that it's not for everyone. Treat it as a puzzle that requires you to play in order to understand the story.
