Quantum Witch has been on my radar for what feels like forever and the wait has been worth every single minute.

I first discovered the developer years ago, back when she streamed on Twitch. Those streams were hilarious, witty and entertaining. So, when she announced she was making a game, THIS game, I knew It would be a day one purchase for me.
Life’s changed a bit since then sadly. I’m now a fulltime carer for a family member which means my gaming sessions are somewhat rare nowadays but they are precious littler moments of escapisim. Sooooo.. choosing the right game to fill these slots (oo er) is imperative and I can honestly say that Quantum Witch is the perfect game for my windows of escape and relaxation.

I’ve only managed an hour so far. Normally spent tucked up in bed, with a nice cup of tea,a curly whirly and Quantum Witch on the Steam deck.. Literal heaven on earth lol. And even after only two hours I already know I don’t want this game to end. It’s the kind of game you need to savour and not power through every corner of its world just to get to the end.

There is little to no hand holding here so there’s no overbearing quest marker dragging you along by your nose. Instead, you have to pay attention. You have to talk to villagers. You piece together stories and listen to every villager/NPC you find. It’s an amazing design choice and one that I always love when it’s done correctly and this is one of those times. It’s like the game encourages you to get lost and your trust is always paid off when you wonder far enough down a strange path to be met with a secret worth finding… or a funny NPC/Story.
Whether it’s the cult (not a cult) or two Villagers (one with pink hair and the other with long brown hair… I Can’t for the life of me work out who they are but I know I’ve seen them somewhere before...) coming out with cheesy dad jokes or double entendre, your curiosity will always be rewarded.
In many ways it reminds me of the game ‘Horace.’ Not because of the story or the graphics etc. It’s more in that you can tell the designer has poured themselves into every pixel and line of dialogue. The world feels handmade with their humour, their thoughts and world views.. and it’s a lovely world!
Going at my bloody speed I don’t know how long it’ll take me to finish it (May get there by the time I reach 60 lol) but Honestly, I hope it takes me a while. it’s a reminder of why I fell in love with gaming 39 (nearly 40..-sigh-) years ago! And for that, I’m grateful.

9.9/10… AHHHH bugger it, have a 10/10.

I recently read the short story this game is based on and loved it.

However, this game is abysmal. Not only does it miss the point of the story (Which could be somewhat looked over) it's an absolute buggy mess. The game is pretty hard and due to this you're willing to sit there and work out the puzzles or look for things you've missed... Sadly, due to it's age and buggyness you get soft locked without knowing it and are left sitting there working out puzzles when you don't have all oif the items you should. It's only when you think "I've ghad enough ill look at a guide" you discover this.

Before I knew this I sat there with my partner for nearly 2 hours trying to work out a puzzle. In the end she looked up the solution and we discovered it the item we needed hadn't dropped when it was supposed to so we had to reload a previously saved game. We managed to complete that level and moved onto another character. Once again we were stuck on a puzzle and once again we 'cheated' and looked up the guide only to discover that a dialogue option wasn't appearing when it should. We had to reload a previously saved game AGAIN and this time the diolgue appeared.
After this we just followed the guide.

Story 10/10
Always loved the MK story ever since the first one (Although theres been a lot of recons)

Gameplay: 8/10
I feel some of the characters are lacking in places.

Fatalities: 5/10
They don't feel as imaginative as past games and in some places feel phoned in.

REALLY scummy microtransactions: 10/10

They've REALLY nailed it this game with the scummy Microtransactions! Worse than it's ever been so congrats! <3 I bought the bundle pack for full price (because im a dunce) and i STILL didn't have all the characters! Yep! A character that's literally IN the game ALL ready to go.. is £6.99. Want A costume from older games? Buy some in game currency and unlock it instantly! no more messing around with challenges or unlocking it by doing a certain task/milestone.
Seriously, WB are a really scummy bunch of so and so's.
Want more after completing the game?! Why not try the WAY over priced DLC 'story' that's 5 chapters of NOTHING that ends EXTREMELY abruptly with NOTHING added to the new lore.

Would I recommend it? I'm sorry but I can't. I LOVE MK. I love the story and characters. I even love the new timeline idea.. but the way they've obviously removed content to try and Milk you dry is awful.
I don't mind worthwhile DLC etc but none of the DLC/costumes are worth the asking price and it's shoved down your throat constantly.

Really funny, sweet game! Typical Nikki and Bunty humour. I loved the little nods and cameos. I can't bloody wait for the full game!! <3

Really ticked off.

I LOVE this game so much. I own three copies (ps1, and two on the pc). If i could pick ANY game to have a remake it would be this one <3
I decided to buy this version as I stupidly expected E.A to get it working fully with moderen systems.. I was wrong.

The game flatly refuses to launch.
I am 39, a pc builder and a gaming fanatic.
I know what to do when a game doesn't load.. and i've tried them all. A quick look on the forums and it seems people with higher end systems are all having major problems with this game. Whether it's not launching, weird graphical problems etc it just seems it doesn't run well.
It seems you have to jump through the SAME hoops (if not more) to get this version to work over the retail copy!! That is insane.

EDIT: Ive just purchased this on GOG. While i'd rather have it on STEAM at least this version worked on the first try.

i cant in good faith recommend this game.
Is it a good game? yes.
Is it addictive? Yes
are the devs dedicated? Yes.

Then why can't I recommend it? Well, when i first bought the game I did so with my ex.
She then introduced this to a friend of hers.. and they ended up playing it, getting close and then she ended up cheating on me with him. So F this game.

Okay, it WAS 9 years back and tbh i wasn't that bothered and im now extremely happily married but damn it *thumps table* i know how to hold a grudge.

I purchased this years ago and have only played it a handful of times as it's too heart breaking to play. I just bought the DLC as soon as I found out all profits go to UKRAINeE. #westandwithukraine

UPDATE AT THE END:

I hate to leave a negative review but I honestly don’t want anybody making the same mistake I have (and from the forums others have).

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. It is an utter broken mess. You WILL end up having to redo some areas due to glitching. Also, some of the puzzles solutions are very “Guess what I’m thinking” rather than using logic to come to a conclusion.

The glitches:
Each act I have had to do over 1-2 times due to glitches and bugs. The last straw came today when I did Act 3 for the 4th time and once again couldn’t complete the level due to a glitch.

The following may contain spoilers for puzzles but ill keep them to a minimum.

First playthrough of Act 3:
I awoke in the apartment and (not giving spoilers) an event didn’t trigger… So I was wondering around for an hour trying to work out how to escape. I thankfully gave up and looked at a guide. I quickly realised the game had bugged out. On restarting the act it triggered within 20 seconds.. And this seemed to be the story of the game for me. “Is this puzzle just hard or has [blank] not spawned or triggered?

Second Play through
I collected the Red key. On exiting the room and making my way along the train tracks I randomly sprung into the air and then fell to the ground and dying.
When I ‘woke’ my inventory was empty. I lost the Key and crowbar which are items that are essential. After checking online the Devs, realising how broken their own game was, implemented a “Lost and found” box at the front of the house for items that clipped through the map etc. They were not in that box. I looked around where I had fallen and died. Nothing. After an hour of looking, I restarted the act. -_-

Third play through:
I got to the same section and picked up the key. I was then working on a ridiculous puzzle involving the globe (If you know.. you’ll know). As I was running to a room I was caught by the neighbour. The game glitched and crashed. When I restarted the game, my inventory was once again missing. After looking again, I restarted the act.

Fourth play through:
The exact same thing as the third but shortly after finding the red grammar phone.

I have NO problem with a game being buggy or glitchy IF it’s newish. This game came out in 2017 and its an utter mess. So many times, I was questioning “Is this just a hard puzzle or has the game glitched?” and in quite a few sections it was a glitch.

I love the idea of the game and the story but I am not willing to waste anymore time on playing a game for it to just break and force you to redo the last 40mins. Its ridiculous.

Update:

So, after leaving it for 2 days I decided to pick it up and TRY one last time.. Sadly "One last time" Wasn't enough.

I once again lost an item on my next play through.

On the next play through the final door wouldn't unlock even though I had the key!!

I restarted from the checkpoint and THANKFULLY after about 8 play throughs and nearly 7 hours I completed act 3.

The final act was glitchless thank goodness and I completed it.. and instantly uninstalled this utter mess.

Title: More of the same :(

I know so many people say this but Steam needs a more in-depth rating system!

Is this a bad game? No!
Is it a good game? No!
Does it deserve a positive? No.
Does it deserve a negative? No!
It deserves a “Eh…It’s alright if you’ve never played a DMC before”

Okay, so let me start at the beginning.
I am reviewing this after playing and completing the PS4 version. I own it on the PC after getting the code in a blind box on fanatical.

I loved Devil May Cry when it first came out on the PS2 all those years ago. It was something we’d never really seen before. It was original, fun to play (Multiple times) and the difficulty level increased at a very fair yet challenging rate. The story was very, very cheesy and the Dialogue was AWFUL!
Any one remember “I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with LIGHT!” If you don’t then do yourself a favour and look for it on youtube… That’s the level of writing we’re dealing with here.

When Devil May Cry 2 came out we were all excited to see what they had install for us. Sadly, it was a HUGE step backwards and was honestly the worst of the series. The monsters/demons were all there but weaker and less engaging. Dante, the smart talking, charismatic demon slayer had his tongue semi removed and the story was even worse.. Did it even HAVE a story?!

3 gave us something slightly more original than the first but it still felt EVER so slightly samey. The monsters/demons all had the same strengths and weaknesses but were in different skins. Yes, we had fighting styles, new weapons and bosses which all felt different. You needed to know the tactics otherwise you’d get your arse handed to you… but actual gameplay still felt the same as DMC1 which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing as it was still a fun game to play but it didn’t feel original anymore. The story was semi decent but once again the dialogue was cheesy (Not in a good way) and just seemed like a very poor fan fiction.

Then DMC4 came out. It allowed more ariel combat, more combos, a new character in Nero and exciting new monsters, bosses on par with the third but maybe not as good… but it still felt samey. Not much had changed deep down. Hell, even the purchasable skills were the exact same as the third with one or two thrown in. The story was MUCH better and the dialogue slightly improved.

Then DMC came.. While I personally liked this game it isn’t in the DMC cannon so we will ignore it.

So… we come to Devil May Cry 5.. I’m sure you’re all wondering “WHY has he reviewed all the other games on the DMC5 page?”. Well, for the simple reason is there is sadly NOTHING new in this game. Apart from the graphics and new story there is very little new here.
The same exact combos that were in 3 and 4 are all here plus one or two more, see this big room you’re walking into? Well, you know it’s about to be shut off and you have to kill every mob to get to the next room the exact same way 1,2,3 and 4 did.. Talking of mobs the mobs still have the exact same weaknesses and strengths. Oh, this Mob has a shield? Get behind him and hit him. The same way as you did in 1,2,3 and 4. The Bosses are back to feel somewhat samey and on my first playthrough on Demon hunter I just hit and ran away… and it worked on each boss. Hardly any tactics are needed. The (bad type of) dialogue cheese is back with a vengeance. Theres a few new characters but most are forgettable. V is something different but .. well no spoilers. The ladies are sadly once again sexualised and void of almost any character. The story itself is semi decent but all of the plot twists are obvious and you’d most likely already guessed them in the first few missions.

It seems they have simply carried on with the same old formula and sadly, if you have played ANY of the other DMC games you’ll know the formula and most likely be wanting something a bit more original and a leap on. If you’re new to the Devil May Cry franchise and this genre then this will be an amazing game to you!

As I said in the first part of this review It’s not a bad game, it’s not a good game it’s a “Eh.. it’s alright if you’ve never played a DMC before” It feels like the same old thing with a new skin. Lets hope DMC6 will leap forward and bring us something new and exciting once again.
Thanks for reading and remember, it’s only MY opinion. - Reo x

P.s If anybody is interested in what I thought of DMC..

Now, I know I am in the extreme minority here but for me it was the best of the series (Please, don’t hit me..). The gameplay felt new again. Yes, you still had similar mobs with similar strengths and weaknesses but the gameplay, weapon swapping etc all made the game feel exciting. The script writers removed all of the bad cheese and made it feel more mature yet slightly cheesy. It was a great balance (For me anyway). The music from Combichrist was just AMAZING and you didn’t mind hearing it over, and over and over whilst kicking ass.
