Spoilers in this review!

Man! I had high hopes for this DLC but I have just been disappointed from a story standpoint, especially after Forsaken/Witch Queen. I thought we'd see more of the witness and it's power, super sad to see that Calus was actually the main villan that you fight, and this DLC was essentially just a filler to set up whatever happens after The Witness comes back out of the Traveler or whatever actually happened.

The writing left a lot to be desired. The main person you interact with, Nimbus, is written like a quippy marvel character , making BF2042-style jokes while their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mentor dies . I absolutely hate this lmao, it makes every interaction with him personally insufferable. When the fate of the literal universe is at hand, an NPC saying "Woo-Hoo! Beat some Vabal butt! Get it? I combined Vex and Cabal, haha!" is not comedic relief, it's immersion-breaking bad dialogue. I'm also fairly certain there was nothing about 'The Veil' except some vague references in lore before this expansion, and I know just about equally nothing about it after finishing it. I don't even know why its such a big universe-ending deal beyond the fact that its a well of Strand energy. The post-campaign cutscene (you know the one) is supposed to be super sentimental and make us cry and whatnot, but I really didn't feel a single connection to the characters that die this time around. Just an all around failure of storytelling in my opinion.

Changes to gameplay feel pretty good however, it's nice to have artifacts that are based around the season's exotics rather than just general insignificant changes beyond matching champion types. I always enjoy Destiny gunplay and movement so that's really no surprise though. Hopefully season content and raiding will keep me interested enough to play the game for longer than a couple months this time.

Please either do something with Gambit and the Forge system or get rid of it. They're like tumors in the corner of my Tower map.

I have definitely gotten my fair share of this game, and I can't stop booting it up just to enjoy the awesome driving mechanics! I love all the cars and sounds they added to this game, and It all looks beautiful.

So. Ace of Spades. The name reminds me of countless hours with friends on my laptop playing the browser version of the game, laughing, and just having a great time. This all was fun, as it was the best game on browser at the moment that offered reliable multiplayer. Unfortunately, ya got greedy, devs. You had millions of concurrent players and decided to make the jump to steam. It would have gone cleanly if it was offered for free, optimized, didnt include any other bs except for the 3 classes, and kept the modes that people loved. Instead, you charged 15 dollars for a poorly optimized, (max settings only gets 110-130 frames on my 1080ti), reclassed (other classes that added nothing to the game), and just overall a worse game in general. It's unfortunate that it ended this way, as the game could have really been successful IF you had just sticked to what was working.I'm sorry, but you guys REALLY ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up with this one. Goodbye AOS, its been fun.
