This game is like 90% plagiarizing Paper Mario and TTYD. With that said, it's pretty fun lol.

This game is so on-the-nose that it feels like a high school student wrote it. The dialogue was canned and unrealistic, the voice acting subpar, and the overall theme was so clumsily portrayed I was rolling my eyes all throughout playing this atrocity.

There's a weird attempt to be spoopy-scary, but like c'mon, the "game closes on its own" trope is so overdone at this point. Completely unoriginal ideas here.

The turd cherry on top is that the credit sequence thanks every individual asset-maker, making the credits obscenely long. All throughout, you're forced to listen to a terrible song (likely the dev or his friend's band) that drones on and on. I'm insulted!

The bright side is the game is so short you can refund it quickly.

The script of this game was clearly written by a quirk chungus. I was too overwhelmed by the cringe that I had to immediately uninstall and refund. If you're into tumblr-tier dialogue you might get off on this, but it just ain't my cup of tea.

This is a GOTY contender for me.

First, the negatives:

- The game lacks a bit of polish, especially in the UI and character screens.
- There is a sort of glossy, uncanny valley aesthetic going on with the character design. I think it has to do with the Unreal Engine's photorealistic aesthetic not quite translating onto the characters, especially during cutscenes.

It's a short list, but sometimes seeing Robert Pattinson's mouth turn into a blurry mess breaks the immersion.

Now, I should also preface this review with the fact that I don't really like open-world games. They usually suffer from bloat and imbalance - e.g. if you clear all the side quests you just turn into a killing machine.

The good news about this game is that the combat is extremely punishing, but totally fair. I love the core gameplay loop, I love that you can create synergistic builds within your party, and I love nailing perfect parry sequences. So far, it hasn't gotten old at all. Even battles against regular mobs are satisfying.

The setting and plot are also quite unique and intriguing. Any game that can get my non-gamer wife to peer over and be like "ooh watz that" is a big win in the engagement department. I'm sure the French voice acting is more immersive, but the English cast is also really well done. I just feel like I'm playing Baldur's Gate 3 sometimes hehe.

So far, so great. I'm not even halfway through the game, but it's instilled that rare feeling of wanting to play a game as soon as you get back from work. I haven't felt that way in a long time! It's really refreshing to see smaller devs create such kickass games.

This game uses images that are clearly AI-made. Also, it is simply terrible and boring. The core gameplay loop is not as revolutionary or as interesting as the lead dev thinks it is.

EDIT after dev's lame response:

The images used to advertise the game on the store page itself are so clearly AI! To any potential buyers: look at the 4th image with the "angry French citizens." Look at the woman in the middle's left hand. It's an AI mass of flesh. Look at the woman on the left. Her hand is morphing into a shadowy claw. Look at the dudes in the background. One man's face is blurry and distorting into mashed potatoes, and the other man has an uncanny hi-res face.

Next: look at image 10 for some real nightmare fuel. Why do the soldiers' faces look like they were cut-and-pasted from a magazine? Look at the soldiers' hands. Look at the house in the background with its wiggly roof. These aren't just AI-made images; this is the real cheap junk from like 2023. And the devs are using AI images to ADVERTISE THE GAME ON ITS OWN STEAM PAGE! Hilarious!

Why would anyone want to support devs that are not just using AI images but also lying about it? Shameful display!

Oh also, the game is not a "slow burn." It's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

First off: this game looks absolutely hideous and has a ghastly aesthetic. From the character design, to the text fonts, to the sound effects, to the UI, it's all ugly. The dialogue is also cringe and terrible, and the game is littered with typos. The plot is extremely derivative, predictable, and overall quite lame. I think the dev's native language isn't English, so there are some funny Engrish moments throughout the dialogue.

With that said, I can't stop playing! The progression is extremely well done, and the overall guild management system is very satisfying. There are some clear influences from Fire Emblem, but there is a nice level of complexity that makes this game relatively unique. It definitely has that vibe of nurturing a character from nothing to a dragon-slaying hero. The gameplay loops work with each other very, very well.

This game gets an A- from me! A hearty recommend.

THIS IS MY GAME OF THE YEAR!!!!

This game captures a sense of nostalgia, and yet is a deep dive into new gaming experiences. Its aesthetic is so beautifully consistent while also challenging the notions of what games were in the 80's. And beneath it all, there's a super neat meta-story that keen gamers are (at time of writing) still figuring out!

50 games in 1 for 20 bucks!? The value! LORD, THE VALUE!

Early Access Review
Maaaan, as a longtime Starcraft 2 fan, I was so stoked for this game. But I think the aesthetic is a dealbreaker for me. It looks like a worse Valorant, and unfortunately this makes the gameplay just feel bad.

It's a huge shame that the devs committed to such a horrible art style. I see this being irreparable damage that can only be fixed by a huge overhaul. And with the game being as unfinished as it is, I'm sure this aesthetic has already been committed to. I can't possibly look forward to any positive change when the game looks this bad.

I really, really hated the campaign missions, and again, the character models look garbage.

I could see the PvP mode being competitive, but currently it's just not fun to play. Unit movement, responsiveness, attack animations, and even death animations are clunky and unpleasant. Microing big armies seems to lack that finesse that Starcraft had. And (again a design flaw) the UI is damn ugly.

Honestly, I'm just shocked! With such a powerhouse dev team, how could they drop the ball? I'm guessing they got a new art team or something of that nature.

Anyway, currently, I cannot recommend this game in good faith. It's really sad, too, because I've been jonesing for a new excellent RTS. Guess I gotta wait for Battle Aces.
