This game is not only beatiful (and it definitely is), not only has it the smoothest animation, a great soundtrack, engaging but not frustrating puzzles, it's also just darn cute! I couldn't wait for it to come out after playing the demo. 10/10 would recommend

I am very sorry to say this, because I got the game for free from the developers, but this game is completely unplayable and total trash in its current state. I don't know if anyone even playtested this, it is so broken, it is really unbelievable. I wanted to give the developer a chance to fix this, but because they didn't answer my email about the problems with the game, I am going to write this review and list some issues with the game. Everything I am going to mention I encountered in 15 minutes or so.
1. The game is not at all playable with the Valve Index or the Index Knuckles Controllers. But even with regular vive controllers, the controls are totally broken. For instance, the hands are rotated wrong, like 90 degrees. Why? This doesn't make any sense, in Unreal Engine (the engine this game was programmed in) you could easily change the rotation of the hands.
2. The menu is awful and not working properly. Why make a menu for a 2D flat game, to use it in VR? Also, the settings are complete nonsens. You have settings like resolution (like the regular 1920:1080 stuff), v-sync, full-screen... for what are these settings, if this game is in VR? Also there is an issue with the sound, because the game is completely silent from the start on till you click with your mouse into the window of the game, on your PC monitor.
3. The game lags and looks blurry. You have to adjust the pixel-density to 2, why isn't that a default option? Still, it lags like hell, everything is reprojected.
4. The movement is completely broken. The teleport does work, but you are randomly rotated after a teleportation, or rather in the direction your hand was pointing in, however I don't see any sense in doing that. The locomotion doesn't work at all. If you press forward for example on your left thumbstick, you go forward, ok (head-oriented as it seems at first). But then when you turn your head, the character still runs in the previous direction. Also, if you now want to change the direction of your movement, the character still runs in the first direction, so you have to let go of the stick first. Besides that, when you rotate with the right thumbstick, the character stops moving at all, which is not comfortable. Also, sometimes, if you only lay your thumb on the thumbstick OR the touchpad, which is unavoidable because, where should your thumb be else? - your character moves forward or in any other random direction. This is very irritating. Because of that the locomotion is practically unusable, but you also can't turn it off, so your character will stumble around randomly throughout the game.
Also, when pressing b, you are teleported to a hub world kind of thing? I don't know what the purpose of this room is. Why are there dark corridors that lead to nowhere? The game doesn't explain anything and just throws you in there.
5. I still tried to play the game. So I exited the first room, and there was nothing? I ran through a corridor and there was just nothing. What was I meant to do? So I tried to glitch through the walls, which by the way is easily doable, because I can just roomscale walk through them. You should prevent this, this is like basic VR knowledge. So I glitched through the wall and fell through the world. Then, I pressed "unstuck" in the menu, and spawned in a long corridor. However, everything in your game is so dark, that you can't see anything. 70% of my whole vision is just plain black. I somehow managed to get through a couple of rooms, where some strange letters were lying around, which I couldn't read, because the text was completely blurred out, like the texture would not load.
After some time I got stuck in a room and besides glitching through walls, I couldn't do anything, so I gave up.

In a state like this, this game should not be sold. Even if you put away the index specific problems, it is completely irritating and unplayable.

This game is absolutely amazing, don't listen to the negative reviews. It is a wave shooter, and I thinks this is even better for VR than the normal games, and it's just soo much fun. You have 5 different planets, each with 4 long waves, with different settings and enemies and bosses. Everything is really well made, the waves are intense but also well thought trough. The progression system is also great. I won't go into detail, but it's made so that you can choose from a collection of many weapons right from the start of the game, so you don't have to fight with boring weapons at all, but this is irrelevant for the overall progression between planets. In a nutshell, you get points between waves in one planet, which you use for powerups, weapons and ammo and other stuff, and between planets then you get skill points to improve yourself permanently and improve your weapons. This game also works perfectly on the valve index and the knuckles controllers.
I strongly recommend you getting this game, it's very fun. I got it on sale in the croteam VR bundle, so even if you think this game does not have enough content for you, you can buy that and have 3 other great Serious Sam games in VR. :)
