Incredibly fun physics sandbox and more importantly, a driving simulator. This is probably one of the games that I can confidently say you can learn to drive in with a good enough rig.

Total nuclear escalation; no weapon is out of the question.

It's helpful to imagine this as a sim/simcade version of Project Wingman, except instead of you watching nukes getting dropped, you're the one dropping them. The battlefield is full of destructible targets (including friendlies if you're not careful enough), which you can lock onto using a head-mounted display, similar to Project Wingman or Ace Combat's IFF/Radar screen. The controls are intuitive and accessible to virtually any budget. Keyboard and mouse feels great, controller feels great, HOTAS feels great. It even has headtracking support!

Every mission, no matter the scenario, always has the chance to escalate to a full scale strategic nuclear war. Endgames often entail both sides charging suicidally into the enemy to even get one nuke off. Every scenario is a war of attrition, where your budget for aircraft corresponds to your team efforts and your efforts, as well as your ability to respawn, rearm, and repair is hindered by the enemy.

Even before the war rises to the nuclear stage, every conventional weapon is modelled satisfyingly, and with great detail put into their combat characteristics.

The graphics for the game are not really up to par with modern standards or the date it was released, however the effects and lighting is beautiful so it compensates for that. Hopefully as development continues, we see more improvements. I do keep in mind though that the game is a bit cartoony intentionally.

I strongly recommend this game to anybody who likes the nerdy, simulator-ish aspect of DCS or War Thunder, but wants to enjoy something a bit more casual and hectic without the worry of unfair balancing, or wasting money on modules, or taking half an hour to get to a frontline just to be shot down.

This game is *technically* free, HOWEVER:

You are limited to a single ground attack aircraft, and a single WWII Fighter-Trainer conversion (no guns). In order to fully get an enjoyable experience from this simulation - should say, since the game part of it comes after you figure out how to work everything - you might have to spend a few dollars on equipment and modules. For me, I am running a cheap HOTAS from Thrustmaster, a webcam with 3rd party tracker software, and the Flaming Cliffs 3 module for this game which I got on sale for £20.

Apart from that, I have never had more of a captivating and enjoyable experience in a flight sim than this. Everything, from wing vapour to engine sounds, is modelled accurately. (If you ignore the optimisation problems) the graphics are beautiful and pleasing to look at. The sounds are eargasmic and the community around this game is pretty interconnected and helpful. Being a simulator, naturally the community is less toxic and more about enjoying the experience, so you should be able to find help pretty easily.

Overall, if you have a pretty deep interest into aviation, military aviation, or are a disgruntled War Thunder Sim player looking for a different experience, DCS is worth a shot.

(PS - the game only runs single-threaded. To enable multi-threaded mode, go to the game's root folder and open up the folder "bin_mt". There's a DCS.exe file in there that runs a multi-threading copy of the game that should boost your performance by a good margin.)

(pps - get the standalone version from ED's website. It is the exact same as the steam version, but they run deals and offers for longer than on steam, and have a 14-day free trial system that lets you try out modules for 14 days on every mission and freely in multiplayer (no credit/debit card needed) before buying them)

Absolute bullet-hell madness... I love it.

Team Fortress 2 has taken the top spot as being one of the most iconic class-based shooters out there. You have 9 classes each with their own unique abilities to encourage different roles: the scout is super fast and has a double-jump feature; the spy can go invisible and disguise; et cetera. These unique classes come with their own weapons and play styles to make it really appealing to multiple different people.

I think that TF2's mercenaries make this game all the more worthwhile. Each character model has been carefully designed so that you could recognise them from far away. If you Google some images of 'tf2 mercenaries', you could instantly recognise their roles: speedy baseball dude, mad pyromaniac, crazy doctor, and the list goes on. The snazzy one-liners after most kills give a sense of character to the characters. Lines like "I murdered your toys as well", or, "Nice hustle tons-a-fun! Next time eat a salad!".

Of course, the game has its fair share of problems. One being that Valve just doesn't give a single flying crap to what happens in this game. If you play this game, you know that there is a bot crisis going around. Aimbots, spinbots, voice chat spammers and more. The only thing that Valve have done is mute Free-to-play players, meaning that one person can't call for their medic, while other people buy cheap hats and continue spamming "MEDIC! MEDIC! NEED A DISPENSER HERE! GOOD SHOT M8!". However the community do have their own anti-cheats on their own servers, so it's not a problem if you like the community aspect of CS:GO or DOTA 2.

TL;DR: The game is really good and has iconic characters. Currently under a 2021 bot-crisis.

Very Nice, has fun mechanics, similar to smash bros, but is also very competitive. Lot's of spammers though (people who overuse a set of moves or a move).

This is a very fun game and honestly, for 3 quid, it's worth it! There is a massive community of players that are constantly shaping the game with their new creations. There are always new online levels that are added by the player base that always have their own surprise to them. This is a one-man-creation! I couldn't be more proud that RobTop put his own time and effort into making the game. Even if he has promised a new update for over a year, there is always something new to explore.
Good job, RubRub.
