I've been a fan of the Katamari games from the beginning. Following the previews in PSM leading up to its release, and finally picking up that odd little budget title at Best Buy when it came out (the clerk was very confused as to what the game was, I told him I'd heard great things). I have a fondness for the games that will never fade, so I was pretty excited to give this new port a shot. I say "port" instead of "remake," because, beyond minor visual improvement in a select few areas, this is straight-up the same game we got in 2004, warts and all.

Don't get me wrong, the problems in the original aren't deal-breakers by a long shot. It was to be expected for such a new game concept. But the sequel, We Love Katamari, ironed out virtually all those issues. The physics were much more forgiving, and generally it didn't penalize you for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Going back to the original can almost feel like the game engine is just a prototype. So in "Reroll," I was expecting at least some quality of life improvements from We Love Katamari and Katamari Forever, but instead it plays exactly the same.

Not only this, but new visual and audio bugs/glitches can be found in this version. Yes, they tend to be minor, but it's pretty bad to see it in a lazy port that bills itself as a remake.

That said, if you're a fan of the series, get it. If you like weird Japanese games, get it. As much as I don't want to reward Namco Bandai for the extreme laziness of this port, it's still a fantastic game, and I'm still holding out hope for a We Love Katamari Reroll.
