I am admittedly one of the few that enjoyed the game as it was released. I don't really care about the PR nightmare that surrounded the game when it released. I enjoyed it and have been playing it casually to unwind since it launched.

That being said, the Foundation Update is truly a breath of fresh air.

I'm not going to go through the entire patch notes to tell you what they added, but here is a short list of the best additions/improvements from the perspective of a player who enjoyed the game in the first place:

-*-*-Construction-*-*-
This is huge. It increases the demand on resources and allows us to finally make our mark on a planet. It cannot be overstated how much this enhances the game experience. I feel that the construction interface is about 80-90% efficient. Using the Q and E buttons to cycle through items feels a bit strange, but maybe I just have small fingers.

-*-*-Freighters and Space Events-*-*-
Answering a distress call in game is more rewarding now that you can board the freighter you saved and speak with the commander and possibly buy his services. I haven't accumulated enough wealth to buy one yet (they seem to initially cost around 7 mil units), so I cannot yet comment on construction on the freighters, but it's nice to be able to land on them and interact in a somewhat meaningful way.

-*-*-Scan from Space-*-*-
Such a simple change that drastically reduces the mundanity of trying to locate a particular element. Every planet seems to contain some amount of Iron, Carbon, Plutonium, but now you can scan for harder to find resources from your ship at range. If you can see the planet, you can scan it. I have not experienced any kind of distance limitation as of yet.

-*-*-New Elements-*-*-
More elements competing for space in your inventory, and now you need technology other than your multi-tool to harvest them, which adds a great 'element' to the gameplay. ;-)

I know many players were outraged about the game when it launched, if you didn't get a refund, launch the game again and check out the improvements. I personally think it's worth it. Happy Gaming!
