I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this game yet.
This game is a masterpiece, when a game says it's got overwhelmingly good reviews, it's probably cause it's really good.
Everything about this game ranging from its story, gameplay style, music (the music is definitely one of the best OSTs out there. It's a super neat "Run and Gun" metroid-vania type of retro shooter, definitely with its own easy and challenging features, when the game gets too easy for you there are a couple other modes that will keep you busy (especially hard mode, I haven't beaten it yet, and it looks like a nightmare).

The story is nice and linear in the worlds you travel to but then you can also travel back and forth and collect secrets, and there are 3 different endings to this game, so some choices can make a difference.

Even if it is a masterpiece, there is one little thing that might get annoying around the third playthrough or so, is that through the story there is a lot of going back and forth to collect items for this that, but I guess that's just a big part about how you're supposed to progress so I can't really complain much about that.
This game is as good as it gets if you like retro platformers.

The shooting mechanics have to be my favourite, every gun apart from the rocket launcher has no cooldown so it's very satisfying to mow down bosses by jitterclicking, it's very trigger-happy friendly, and again, all guns except the rocket launcher doesn't actually use any ammunition either, so, yeah, even the shooting is skill based.

I am going through my third playthrough (after accidentally losing my save data for my second run and almost beating Ballos, because I reset my laptop without a backup).

This game doesn't need a very good computer to run, it's not very demanding in terms of RAM either.

I love the music, please play this game, it's worth your time, 100% (unless you don't like platformers, then that's okay).

Honestly, just, mind blown.
Well, I had never seen any youtubers play Just Shapes and Beats, but i've only heard about it a couple times before, I didn't expect too much out of it, I just assumed this game would be your same old Geometry Dash bootlet type of game, but since I just had the feeling to try it, since I have NEVER regretted playing a Steam game with Outstanding Reviews.
Starts off how I'd expect it, tutorial, gameplay was fun, but the music.. there was honestly something amazing about the music, it seemed to fit a little too much. As I played a little longer, I found out the gamemode "Story" was a LITERAL MOTHERTRUCKING STORY, and boi, it has got to be one of the most craziest i've played through yet.
At times it feels good, at times it's disturbing, at times it's touching ngl.
And I think I had my expectations too low for this game, like, for a game about SHAPES and BEATS, i am just taken back by how good this is, it may not be the greatest, and may not have had the most complicated story, but what I realised from this game is that, a game can be as simple and as basic as you want it to be and it can still be a fantastic game... but my laptop is still too trash to run it without lag unless i turn the resolution to about 800x600 XD
But i'm just so glad I went into this game blind. Thank you Berzerk Studio
Oh yea, and i've still got the other game modes to play.

oh, so I haven't written a review yet on this game, it's what everyone else says about this game, tho the fanbase is extremely cancerous, cringeworthy and just off-putting nonetheless, it's still a good game, well done Toby Fox, also the soundtrack is just mainly the reason why i got this game, if for the bullet-hell gameplay wasn't my main reason why I got this game, then it's the music. Although Toby could have made the genocide run a little less boring, for fricks sake, i think it was intentional tho. I just wanted that Sans fight, i haven't got to it yet tho, which is why i'm still frustraated about the genocide run. lmao, tho the other endings were also great, for me to have spent so much thought and time into secrets in the game and the story, especially fueled by game theory, I don't think using all that energy in the past was worth it now that I look back, but it was fun anyways. Thank you Toby for making this game, had it's flaws and wasn't the best game (IN THE UNIVERSE) , but that's ok.

EDIT: May 16th 2020, Still haven't gotten to sans fight and transfering computers no cloud save, all data gone, I really can't be bothered, if you've seen undertale videos and you already know the story, idk why you'd still get the game (if you haven't however seen the story, then get this game and play the entire thing blind, yes it's worth it, but the genocide route? just watch some youtuber, it's boring trying to get to sans, though I probably still wanna do it someday in the future, just to beat up funny skeleton).

I wanted to rewrite my review because this honestly is probably my favourite game of all time. Everything from the humour, the soundtrack, and the gameplay are all very satisfying and has great replayability. The game is very difficult when you first start off but when you learn how everything works, and how to optimise your playing, it all becomes quite easy. I see a lot of people say that this game is seriously RNG dependent, and at times it will feel that way (unavoidable series of events that will pretty much end your runs), but even those situations, unless you are playing quick death mode (arguably the hardest mode), are avoidable or at least can be compensated for, based on how you choose to play your cards. Once you've played a couple runs of the game you will start seeing a few repeated events here and there but that's okay because you can still use that opportunity to see what the other outcomes are, and even though I've played so much of this game I'm still finding out new things and new ways to play, and not only that, the game is still receiving updates, so I'm sure there's even more content to come.

A lot of the fun comes out of creating custom characters, be it your friends/family, celebrities/fictional characters and OCs, makes it so much better of an experience, because they can pull off some hilarious moments in-game. If you're playing couch co-op this game is even more of a blast, but it's still a shame they don't have online co-op, steam remote play is acceptable, but it has some latency (albeit still playable) and just doesn't feel right so I really hope they still consider adding a proper online multiplayer mode. I also hope they add more traits and perks to the game to customise characters with, not to say that there's not already plenty, but traits with new gimmicks like maybe a chef or other perks that can flesh out a more specific type of character and adds new ways to play.

You can use an online wiki to help you in learning stats of weapons, or the game's tricks and secrets, but when it comes to learning the outcomes of road events, it's much more worth learning everything from experience in my opinion, but you should obviously just play the game how you find the most fun.

I seriously recommend this game if you wanna play a light-hearted and funny retro zombie game to laugh about with your friends, while also being difficult for those who want something challenging.

Early Access Review
You can just see how funny this game is from many Youtube videos, if only I had a faster computer, and a vr headset, the experience would be 11/10 but however this game is a 10/10 ;)

I don't feel like I need to write anything about Geometry Dash in general I think everyone already knows how the game plays and it's many great aspects. But one thing I really wanna say especially about 2.2 is, damn I would not think I'd be playing a lot more GD if it wasn't for platformer mode, I know it's a break from the usual style, but I really love platformers and it feels like it's executed so well in this game, and the stuff people create is honestly mind-blowing, from the adobe-esque edits, and literal game remakes, GD has come a long way and it's so freaking awesome. For those who still don't have the game for some reason, I know you've played the demo on your phones before, even if it was like yeaaars ago, but if you enjoyed it, I really recommend you get the game on steam or something. The full experience is unmatched, even if you're not the kind of crazy person that likes to suffer through demon levels, there's something for everyone.
